So far so good.

Those neighbours we have met are pretty good, although one likes things all her own way (doesn't want the fence changed, but won't do anything about her savage dog who tries to get to J and X if they're playing in our yard - paws on fence and everything growling), but that's going to be fixed when our landlords put up a different fence later this year.

I want a different fence as we're planning to get a puppy at the end of the year.

Wow!!! I guess every neighborhood has a "sour" apple...I'm putting that nicely btw.... She must realize that if her dog attack your children, she could be held liable.....

Yeah, I guess so and we've been so blessed over the years. I think only one other difficult neighbour in seven moves over thirteen years, so I won't be complaining too much as long as she keeps her dog on her side of the fence.

What a day!

We were just about to walk out the door to drop J and X to school and go onto the job for today when our landlord arrived with the builder to look at the garage which will be being renovated.

So, I ended up dropping J and X at school while dh stayed (and let's just say the garage wasn't tidy because we'd been finding stuff in boxes and had no warning that they'd be turning up today - were planning to clean up on Saturday), which put us nearly an hour behind getting out this morning. But I did get to tell our landlord that the toilet was broken.

The visit this morning meant the job ran overtime, so I picked the kids up on my own and then drove back into the city to pick up dh. Thankfully there was a loading zone right outside the building where we'd been working. If only finding the street were that easy!

Then we headed home, where dh dropped us off and went off to two more jobs for the day.

This weekend is the ANZAC long weekend. I don't think we're doing anything special, but I am thinking about attending a dawn ceremony.

ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps.

ANZAC day commemorates the landing of ANZAC troops on the shores of Gallipoli where many died because of a mix up in the landing position. Over the years it has become a day of remembrance for all Australian troops and what they have done for the freedom of Australia.

Hey Kylie!! How are you doing? I read about your landlord showing up...unexpectedly. Other than that and the non-working toilet, how are you doing?

The landing of the troops at Gallipoli happened in WWI. ANZAC Day has become a national public holiday and special remembrance services and marches are held throughout the country to remember what all the defence services have done throughout all the wars. I think it is rather like Veteran's Day in the US.

Kylie, it is good to see you are getting to know your way round Brissy so well . I hope you have a great weekend. I guess the weather is still quite mild up there. It is definitely starting to feel like Autumn here in NSW, although we still do revert back to summer days in between the beautiful crisp mornings and evenings here.

God bless

Pammy, I'm doing well and enjoying a day off (happily ignoring dh cleaning out the garage ).

We've been to dance already this morning and I need to get out to a pet shop and pick up some flea treatment. And I think dh wants to collect some wood to make some more furniture - a catscratch post, J's desk and drawers, and the desks for the office.

That will help us get the garage cleared sooner.

Julie, the best way to learn where things are in a new place is to get lost in it.

Actually some of the mornings have been a bit cooler, but the days have remained very warm - up to 29C.

Hey Trish! Are you feeling better after last week?

Dh is planning to buy some paints too today so that he can start helping J paint his New Kingdom Egyptian army.

And I got a piccie of the dog and **** they're planning to breed to get our puppy last night.

I was going to try and upload it, but it's too big and I can't be bothered fiddling right now.

Now I'm off to help X set up a weaving loom she bought at the thrift store.

Kylie

Hi Kylie. I don't know whether you caught up on the latest with me, but the doctors think that the elevated levels are due to the gastric banding I had last year, or something else. I'm due back at the surgeon's on Wednesday, so I'm going to ask him about why it would push up my levels.

I guess that's not really good or bad news, just different huh? I'll be praying that they can give you some definite answers.

We went looking for timber, but didn't buy any. Seeing the price at Bunnings we decided to shop around a little.

We also went shopping for meat and veg. plus some flea treatment for the cats. I couldn't believe the petstore we went to first. It was called Puppywold and I just thought it was a cute name for a warehouse style pet store. Instead we walked in to find rows on rows of puppies for sale and the stench was just unbelievable. We went and found another pet store.

I could not work in a pet store. I'd be too busy wanting to take the animals home, especially all the kittens and pups. I'd worry too much about them being left alone, and maybe running out of water or something.

Trish, there are many people in the dog breeding and rescue world who would dearly love to see a law passed which stopped petstores selling pups and kittens because these babies often end up with socialisation problems, poor toileting habits and aren't usually checked properly for diseases. They also tend not to desex them, adding to the unwanted dogs and cats which end up in shelters each year.

There are so many pets out at the RSPCA, shelters and those kind of places, that I really don't understand why people don't use those places as their first port of call. They will be euthanased if nobody picks them, and yet people keep breeding animals to fill the pet stores. I rarely look at the pet stores, because I'm such a sook, and want to take the pups and kittens home. The animals at the RSPCA etc, need just as much love as those in pet stores. Sometimes more, especially if they've been abused etc.

Sorry, one of my soapbox subjects.

Mine too, I dispise puppy mills. I looked at buying a schipperkee, but the woman was breeding 3-4 different dog breeds because they were popular. These dogs were 4 months old and wouldn't come near us. They were very afraid, and with small children at the time, I didn't want to take a chance with a dog with socialization problems. Now that they are much older I'd be more likely, but still, I have problems with buying a puppy from someone who just breeds them because they are popular.

I hate puppy mills too.

I've had a sleepy sort of day today. I guess the busy week is catching up. We've been to church this morning and then a small shop before coming home for a late lunch, and now I'm so tired I don't think I'm going to get to our once-a- month evening service.

I've also marinated a roast (well, actually dh put the marinade together) overnight which I'm wondering if I can stay awake enough to cook this evening.

Hey everyone!

I'm having a day at home today while dh does some service work.

I'm planning to do the last bit of clearing out of the garage. A lot of that is moving stuff back into the office as I put it all out there so I could vacuum properly yesterday.

I'm hoping our cats will be flea free now. When we moved in our flea free cats got fleas in this house which 'supposedly' had a pest control done. They've now been treated with a spot-on treatment and I sprayed the carpet and vacuumed it completely, even moving furniture, so I'm hoping.

fleas

We had a cat with fleas once, and it was strange to watch them try to avoid the flea shampoo. They'd start moving up to the face.

When they bite you or just if they even land on you?

That could get difficult with cats in the house.

If they're around at all I get a light rash on the inside of my arms.

I'm almost fanatical about keeping the cats flea free. That's why I was really upset that they got fleas after we moved in. The only way that could have happened is if there were fleas in the house.

But then, we did vacuum up dog hair off the professionally cleaned carpet.

Fleas seem to love empty houses and even with treatment, if they have been in the house they seem to lie in wait when a house is empty and come to life once people move in...or cats!!!...lol

We are having a bit of a flea problem too. I think there may be a sort of 'change of season plague'. I will be spraying and vacumming around here as well. Good luck with your fleas Kylie .
