Bummer, I missed free donuts?????

Ok, I have an axe to grind about worship time this weekend: I HATE repeating chorus' over and over and over to where it seems like your emotions are getting all emotional. Didn't Jesus tell us not to babble on and on like the Pagans????? This rarely happens and it just made me uncomfortable.

If I partied like I did when I was 18....

I'd be dead!

From my email bag today:

No one believes seniors . . . everyone thinks they are senile.

An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary.

The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighbourhood after they retired.
Holding hands they walked back to their old school.

It was not locked, so they entered and found the old desk they'd shared, where Andy had carved 'I love you, Sally.'

On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armoured car, practically landing at their feet.

Sally quickly picked it up, but not sure what to do with it, they took it home.

There, she counted the money-- fifty thousand dollars.

Andy said, 'We've got to give it back.'

Sally said, 'Finders keepers.' She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.

The next day, two FBI men were canvassing the neighbourhood looking for the money, and knocked on the door.

'Pardon me, but did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armoured car yesterday?'

Sally said, 'No.'

Andy said, 'She's lying. She hid it up in the attic.'

Sally said, 'Don't believe him, he's getting senile.'

The agents turn to Andy and began to question him.

One says: 'Tell us the story from the beginning'

Andy said, 'Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday. '

The first FBI guy turns to his partner and says, 'We're outta here.'

I can party better than I did when I was 18, but then I was too serious minded to party at 18. LOL!

Okay, I'm just kidding, but I do sweat less now then I did 30+ years ago. I was way too uptight at 18, and the kick in the head is that I know less now.

Our shiny new head of our church fitness center (not sure of his title) came of with the idea of playing music in the basketball court all the time. That happens to also be where the raised walking track is located. Our fitness center has a weight room (with other stationary devices), a racquetball court, an aerobics room, and a huge central area at the entrance with large screen TV, tables & chairs in a refreshment area, and some games like pool or ping-pong.

But the only place the music is piped is the basketball court. Where I walk. At my own fairly fast pace. While slow CCM with vocals.

I'm not crazy about CCM, but I don't hate it. And it wouldn't be my choice if I wanted to wear an iPod - which I don't. I like peppy music like instrumental Dixieland Jazz, Bluegrass, or some upbeat Sousa style marches. Not slow, loooooong noted CCM.

I guess I'm already less than happy with people driving around the neighborhood with car windows down and music I don't want to hear cranked to the max, as well as the odd neighbor with a hunger for late night, loud music. Seems like the same thing to me.

I spoke to the new guy and he said that's the way it's gonna be. However, he's agreed to let his assistant turn it off if I ask her when I come in and there's nobody else in the gym who wants to listen.

I ask him if he knows why our city has so many radio stations. He just looked at me like I'd asked him to eat a bug.

Am I being unreasonable or just cantankerous?

ummm...only you know that answer

If they're willing to turn it off, then problem solved. If not, then get a good set of ear plugs might work.

p.s. what a great fitness center your church has!

Connie! Love the picture!!

Hello to all!

I have been busier this past year with our church than I think I've been in the other years put together. Whew! It's a good thing but Whew!

And I don't even let myself read the newspaper as much anymore (used to be every day) because quite simply I cannot handle it. Enough about that already.

I remember an "old guy" who attended our church back in Texas. He was a frequent greeter and always had a smile and a joke. This man was in his 70s, and one day Doug and I had a lengthy conversation with him. He said something during that conversation that has hung with me for years and years, "I'm 76, and I know less now than when I was 26. But I'm a lot happier." To a 30 year old mind that kind of statement is hard to process. Now I have a 50 year old mind and I get it in spades.

Right on! ... Not to jump off onto another subject, but I have majorily cut down on reading the newspapers as of about a month ago and it has been liberating. I previously read the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal regularly and I am so glad to be more active in the church.

Hello

I remember penny candy, remember Popsicles at 5 cents. Remember Skippy cup ice-cream cups at 10 cents. I remember shoestring licorice, I remember candy bars called Payday and Hollywood, and Milky way selling for 5 cents.

I remember Pepsi cola for 10 cents and bottle refund for 2 cents each. Remember a quart of milk was 25 cents and bread for under 50 cents. Postage stamps were 2 cents

Bus fare for kids was 10 cents transfer 2 cents.

Catholic school nuns had those wooden rosary beads but that ruler found my knuckles many of times....my mom had to help me out The sisters would tell us to be quiet and then ask a question right away . When you answered they got upset and came at you with the ruler. They played that game with me many a day. Finally I told my mother and she said don't say anything... The sisters would start telling me to be quiet and then ask the question.
'
I told my mother again that I got hit with the ruler for talking 'back. Finally my mother understood...when they Tell u to be quiet ''obey' and don't answer their question . So I followed her advice. and wow were those Sisters mad when they asked me a question and I didn't answer this time !!!!!
