This reminds me of another whine I have!

Okay, most likely not many (more like none) of you have never attended a worship service lead by a Japanese Pastor...let alone attended a Japanese speaking church. If you ever have the rare chance of visiting one, I almost guarantee that the the Pastor will be leading the congregation in the singing....VERY LOUDLY at the podium and they ALWAYS have to sway one of their hands/fists side to side (passionately) as if they are conducting the songs (particularly the hymnals) being sung. Why?? WHY must they do that?? Every Japanese speaking service I have attended, the pastor will do that. I find it rather amusing....but at the same time something to whine about because it's actually distracting.

Reminds me of the local TV program by Assembly of God. Everybody in the choir sways and makes mannerisms but they are totally out of sync with anybody else. I mean, if you put on a robe it's like a uniform and people in uniform CONFORM to one another!

No really the van got a new computer. The way I have been lead to understand it- the fuel pump relay started going- shorting out, it in turn fried the fuel pump and then the computer. Do you reckon it happened because we did not attend a church service on Sunday?

Oh... I'll stand in agreement with that whine, and add that some pastors need to turn off their mic's during worship! They drown out EVERYONE else!

We had a pastor who forgot to turn off his lapel mic while he was standing at the urinal.

Then we had another who forgot to turn it off when people were filing out after a funeral, and someone was telling the pastor about his "old football injury" that needed surgery.

TMI! TMI!

Seriously, when I read the comments about vacation, I thought of another whine I have, because this happened in the churches I visited on vacation, but doesn't happen in my own. When my kids were still young enough to go to children's church, I was usually disappointed if I visited a church that didn't have one. But not nearly as disappointed a I was if I visited a church that thought it had a children's ministry, but only had a babysitting service. No Bible story, no lesson, just fun and games.

Ok... how about a women's "Bible study" group... that never does Bible study... only crafts and chit-chat. Oh... and I forgot, It's like a "member's only" type of group. Not literally, but in all respects... I guess I should say... click only.

This is what I have experienced recently when we were at one part of the coast for a few weeks, and visited a particular church there.

How about a pastor who refuses to correct unbiblical statements made in his sermons and uses the phrase "I want you to" upwards of 30 times in each sermon?

Sorry. I know I shouldn't whine.

I wanna whine--- that church is actually great and I don't have a legit whine. The pastor and associate pastor are on their way home from India right now the mens group got back from honduras planning trip last week, they are going out for 2 weeks in the winter. inside all of this running they still remember that my Honey is leaving for Iraq and are planning a commissioning ceremony for him on the 21st of september. Did I mention that we have only been members there for 2 weeks and have only been attending about 2 months?

I know church is not about feeling--- but I feel loved, and cared for, and wanted, and watched after. I really know I can reach out to these folks and not have my hand smacked.

Sounds like you found a "real" church. I am glad for you. I found one too when I really needed it.

I try to participate in various threads, and seem to be mostly ignored. I can single-handedly either completely kill a thread, or post something that appears to be nothing more than a speed bump for those posting all around me.

Oh well--off I go to kill another thread...

round these parts the only speed bumps are possums. I doubt you are a possum. they do not have opposable thumbs and I have yet to meet one that could read- I know they can't read otherwise they'd cross at the possum crossings.

Sometime speedbumps are armadillos, too. And sometimes even skunks.

I'd wirte a song about skunks, but there's already a dead skunk song, I think maybe by Arlo Guthrie.

"Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road,
Stinkin' to high heaven..."

Sorry, don't know the rest of it.

Funny, how some people perceive themselves, while others see them differently . . . .

You mean you don't see me as a speed bump/thread killer?

I seem to be doing fine in this one--responses from three different posters! Wow, I need to hang with ya'll more often.

Me too. But he has a bad habit of preaching to other people, mostly the ones that aren't there that Sunday.

Nope. Not even relevant in the smallest way!

You know, sometimes, I read and just smile that sideways smile that says a quiet "Yeah." That doesn't translate well into written words. That has happened often when reading what you have written.

It just means you have made too much sense, and any other words tend to fail in response.
