Its been some time since I think this was discussed on these forums so I will bring it up. If you are concerned about the basic security of your PC's Internet connection, you can check it with Shields Up at www.grc.com, a free test site. Go there and follow the links to Shields Up and run the tests. I highly encourage everyone to read what is says about those tests. It explains the ways a PC gets compromised most often. So other than the external threats as was discussed about wifi hotspots and SSL certificate compromise, this site will tell you where you have some of the most expected vulnerabilities.

My PC passed with flying colors except that Port 21, FTP, is open. I have no idea how to do anything about that.

Where are you located, as in inside company property or at home? There is little reason a workstation should have FTP listening. /// I love that dude at GRC... He got some goofy ideas here and there, but all in all he is a good guy.
