I personally would let the congregation know how much the fees are for accepting credit cards. That way the church member can either a) opt to pay by another method or b) increase the gift by whatever percent the fee would be. In other words, if they're charging 2 percent, I'd just give 2 percent more if I had no other method at my disposal. (Clarification: for me that would mean I'd left my checkbook at home ... I always carry my DEBIT card with me but carry very little cash. I do not have a credit card but use debit card as "credit" to avoid fees from my bank.)
