I agree with the co-sleeping. Although, with this baby I'm trying to use the bassinet a little more..which is right by our bed. But, there are times when the baby will not sleep unless he is right next to me.
Sharon, do you find yourself falling asleep while b.feeding? I know for some this isn't possible, but for others they find themselves getting more sleep during b.feeding. It's like some hormone is released that puts mother & baby to sleep.

Ah....well, sleep is a good thing! I took the morning shift and Ray slept until noon. Then he got up, I ate and slept until 4:00. We are both getting tired now. But hopefully all three of us will be sleeping better tonight. We have Derrek's first doctor's appointment tomorrow morning at 10:00am.
Ok, time to try this whole night sleeping thing again ;-) Have a good night ladies. If we don't sleep a lot, I'm sure I'll be back on again in a little while.

I found that with Dylan, who is 3 wks, that it helps that he is awake right before I go to bed. I nurse him, and then he falls asleep before I get him upstairs. And then at night, everything is kept dark and relaxed, and he has been only waking up 1-2 times a night here the last couple of nights. I think too, is that it helps that I started to feed him in bed, instead of getting up to the chair. We dont exclusively co-sleep, but there are times where we have. I do have the bassinet beside my bed for him, and he sleeps in that almost the whole night.
Honestly Sharon, it is only a matter of time before either the baby adjusts to sleeping at night more, or your body will adjust. The first child is always the hardest, I found out that this time around with Dylan I dont feel as tired. Just always sleep when the baby sleeps, and know that if something doesnt get done around the house then it just doesnt get done.

Glad to hear things went better Sharon. Piece of advice for the trip to the doctor - use a simple outfit that is easy to get on and off him. Sleep sacks are great and you can find other brands (gerber I know makes them) that are the same design but a lot cheaper. We have used several brands.

As with Sideways and peculiar...first baby is NOT always the hardest.....
My "hardest" was my 5th....because of issues of her needing a hip brace, etc. She was a very ...well...cranky baby...and she could only sleep if she was held against your chest (due to the braces on her hips). The first 3 months were.....hades. I am glad she was NOT my first...or we'd probably never have had anymore, as well as the fact that nursing was an adventure with her as well as she couldn't nurse on the left side without all kinds of position adjustments...I think I did everything but stand on my head...if she'd been my first....I don't think I'd have stuck it out!
But....when she got the brace off at 3 months....like a different baby altogether.... (whew)

Erin, no you can't use a sleep sack with a car seat. The lightweight ones are probably thin enough but they don't have a slot for the car seat buckle (the crotch one) to come through. Personally though I put as little as possible between baby and the straps - even little ones. I bought a snowsuit/bunting for Bethany but I am just going to keep it in the car in case of an emergency. She'll probably never wear it.

It doesn't take the 30-45 minutes it used to take, but it is still very hard to deal with constantly for this long. Today, for instance, it is almost 2pm and we are working on his 6th nursing of the day already. He takes juice and water in a bottle and a cup, he eats 3 meals plus snacks with everyone else....but he just still loves to nurse, and when he wants to nurse, nothing else will substitute. So we stick with it. If either one had been my first though, I doubt we would have had any more. I am soooooo sore some days. He really is hard to get used to for me.

I haven't ever seen one here, but we had one that we got in Germany that was made to put baby into the car seat in...it had holes to put the straps through and buckle through, so you actually buckled them in and then zipped it up around them. I don't know how well it worked though because we didn't have a car and everywhere we went (taxi or bus) was without a car seat.

yes...you have to make sure those straps are snug....
We have a cover for our baby car seat...we call it the casserole cover....it is a lightweight quilt that has been cut to the size and shape of the car seat and has elastic it in...it fits over baby and the car seat (and has a flap to lower over the baby when transporting to and from car.
It looks similar to these....but ours was made for us by a friend.

We don't put anything bulky in the carseat either, not even one of those BundleMe deals. If it goes between the baby and the seat then we don't use it... We do however have a thing that goes over the top and has a zipper/velcro. It was rather handy during the nastiness of CO weather.

Yeah, we had one like the first one that Erin linked. It is/was 2 layers of fleece and we actually did use the little flap for the face quite often to keep out the wind and/or snow. I made one for Gabby's convertible seat last year and did 2 layers of fleece and a layer of flannel. We don't do thick coats in carseats so she needed something warm to cover up with.

I am considering something like what Erin linked to for Bethany too. With Josh we just tucked blankets around him over the car seat straps and tossed a blanket over the whole seat if it was windy or snowing. We don't use coats or anything more than the regular shirt or sweater the kids would be wearing anyway between them and the seat. But everyone is saying we are going to have a wicked cold winter around here so I'm wondering if I should get something. It isn't even November yet and people are already using them around here - people who are driving, not walking. We've had some days that if we were doing a lot of walking I'd have Josh bundled up and definitely want a cover over an infant, but for the car? Not that cold yet. Unfortunately our car does not heat or cool evenly so the adults in the front can be so hot we are close to passing out and the backseat is still a bit chilly - particularly for a rear-facing baby. But on the other hand it seems like overkill around here for running back and forth for the car, considering I have the bunting (got that for less than 10 bucks) if we need it.

that is actually closer to what we have.....but as I said...someone made it for us....it fits OVER the belts of the car seat and the belts that attach car seat to car..... very snuggly and warm...especially for transport from car to house, house to car...

Well, my incision is healing really well....better than I thought it would actually. But, I still get pretty crampy at times internally. Is it safe to assume the inside takes longer to heal than the outside? When does the energy return? Or, is that dependent on the baby...???

Yes, the inside does take longer - I think you heal in "layers".
Your energy normally starts to return when you begin to get enough sleep. With my first baby, that took quite a while, with my second not too long at all (she was sleeping from 7pm-5.30am at around 8 weeks!!)

...but, yes, you do get more used to it when you have been doing it for a while or have done it before. Doesn't make it easier though.
