I was told recently that I will meet that special girl when I am not looking to meet anyone. Huh ... what the heck does that mean? I pray that God is preparing my future soul-mate for me and that He is preparing me for her. So, do I just hang out at church and "not look for anyone"?

I just read that recently as well in a book written by Myles Munroe. But just this weekend I was in a conversation with a few people and one guy mentioned that he wanted to get married and another person asked him if he was "doing anything to make that happen?"

Go figure! Do you just wait for God to put someone in your path or do you make an effort to meet people?

That's a very fair question! I am very involved in my church as well as with some other groups. I do make an effort to meet new people all the time, and have made even more of an effort over the last few months. I have noticed though, ever since I moved to S. FL several years ago, that generally people don't seem quite as "friendly" as I was used to up north. That isn't just my observation, as many others have made that comment as well. So many people come to service and leave fairly quickly afterwards. I am an usher for one of the services so I do "put myself out there". Thank you for making me think if I am doing enough to meet new people though.

Blessings,
David

Where will you find a girl like ME?

You might find me downtown on a Saturday with my camera in hand, and a brown paper bag full of sandwiches and fruit. I'll be the one photographing the homeless, feeding them, and listening to their stories.

You might find me at the mission center on a Thursday night, sorting underwear and used clothing for the next shipment to Ghana - which is where I've perpetually left a piece of my heart.

Or maybe you'll find me in Starbucks, curled up in a chair with a book that you happen to be reading too. Say hi. I don't bite.

If you look, you'll see me in church, but probably not center stage. I'll be the one wiping little noses, holding hands and singing kids songs with little people. Or you might see on one of those days when the toilet overflows and I roll up my jeans and push the mop bucket down the hall to clean it up before anyone steps in it.

I'll be in the park, sitting in the grass with a contented smile on my face b/c my Papa has seen fit to love me through the warmth of sunshine.

I'm the girl whose next in line, smiling at the little boy who is $1.65 short for the gallon of milk and carton of eggs he's buying for his grandmother. I'm the girl who smiles at the clerk and puts her card down to cover it. Go ahead, smile at me and say, "hi."

You'll find me when you decide to look for me - b/c I'm the girl, I'm the woman whose been praying for you and asking Papa to send you along.

You'll find me when you're ready.

(These were the things I was doing when my DH "found" me.)

i really think this means expect the unexpected.... like... maybe someone who you wouldnt expect to be someone you would normally be interested in will be the one you will be with..... just what i think :)

This was awesome! If this IS you, God please have me meet someone just like her :-)

That IS awesome!! I might just steal/modify a few lines sometime.

As for me, you might find me in my little hometown at the cafe, sitting by the window with my laptop. Or you'll find me walking around the softball fields, getting my daily laps in while walking with a friend. Or you might find me by the lake, sitting under the canopy or on the pier feeding the fish and watching the birds.

You'll find me at church... I'm an instrumentalist, so you have to catch me in Sunday School or after church where I linger talking to friends. I love to talk to new friends.

Finally, Now I am getting to the answer to my question! Perfect, PERFECT! Thank you!!!
Please keep going! I am seeing a whole new world where she is right in front of me and maybe has been the entire time. I just never noticed, because I was looking too hard. More?

M'love found me when a friend asked me if I would mind dancing with his friend. It was Contra dancing (look it up, a great way to meet all kinds of people).
Since it is a great mixer you can go without a date. Who knew on that fateful night that we would still be dancing all this time later.

LOL!

A couple of days ago, I had posted in this thread about some of the places I had gone during that day (and I had the thought that I would continue for a few days posting some of the places I had been on any particular day) . . . but I deleted it about 5 minutes after I posted it.

But to answer your question, yes, she may be right in front of you!
She usually is.

Please, however, read my most recent post HERE, in the Schrödinger thread - simply as a guide on what not to do.

Years and years (and even more years) ago, I determined that I wanted to meet a man in my everyday life while doing my everyday things; i.e., I didn't want to meet him via a dating service or blind dates; both of which feels incredibly contrived to me.

Many years later, I met my future husband at a coffee shop. I was simply going about my business as I did every day; and we met. It wasn't contrived; it just simply was.

If you want to read more about that, click HERE - "Meeting CS"
And if you're really interested . . . there's 3 more posts beyond that; all of them having to do with the CS and the beginning of our relationship ("The Beginning of The Beginning", "Our First Date" and "CS?").

I think people can tend to box themselves in when looking for something (regardless of what that "something" is) . . . and then soon all they can see is what's inside the box. Meanwhile, the world is happening outside of that box.

Hearts can meet and meld anywhere. And, at anytime.

I truly enjoyed reading your past posts, the ones you added links to. You seem like such a wonderful women, a real true lady. Thank you so much for your past posts and your responses to mine. I do wish you hadn't deleted what you had posted here though as I am sure it was also a great read and information.

What? The "run screaming" part didn't appeal to you? I'm crushed!

LOL Really, what I was doing when I met my husband-to-be was doing student teaching to get my credential. I was on break from working on a masters degree in missions (never got it - he showed up too soon... but I'm not complaining!), had been busy doing mission work in Mexico and was working with the high school kids in my church. And I played rhythm guitar in our church band.

So I was super busy, and I told him to wait almost two months until the school year was over. He did, even though I was 15 years older than what he thought he was looking for. Ya never know!

David, thank you so much for such a sweet and kind encouragement! I also appreciate your reading the various posts that I linked.

Yesterday, you would have found a business gal like me hanging out at one of my favorite food places for about 4 hours. LOL That sounds funny just in and of itself.

I live alone in a small studio. Sometimes, when I'm doing computer work for extended periods of time, it can be too much alone and too much small. While many times, I muse that I was born a generation or two too late (or even a century too late), two of the things I absolutely love about living in the 21st Century are laptops and public places that offer free wifi & comfy seating. I can go to one of these establishments, surround myself with "the presence of people" and become engrossed with my computer work. It's proven to be far more productive for me than doing the same computer work at home.

Depending on what type of computer work I'm doing during any given "session", I may or may not want to periodically chat with people. Yesterday was one of those "in-between" days. While I did have some great conversations with friends who came into the store, I probably would not have been as receptive to an unknown man wanting to engage me in conversation. But that's not a set-in-stone, clear-across-the-board kind of thing.

Sometimes I've had some nice, brief conversations in similar instances with men whom I didn't know. The man in each individual situation would need to have the ability to discern whether or not it would be a good time to chat with me . . . by being able to read body language, how I set up my surroundings and how I respond when he says hello.

After my computer session, you could have found an art-lover like me in one of my favorite eclectic art / gift shops selecting some birthday cards for a couple of friends of mine. The vast majority of time, it's always "safe" to approach me in such a setting; depending, of course, on the man being a decent person. Art encourages me, it inspires me and it completely enamors me. Depending on the specific venue, the reason for my being there and perhaps a couple of other factors, I am usually quite receptive to all humans when I'm amidst art.

Yesterday wouldn't have been a good time to call me on the phone, though . . . which presumes more than just "meeting" a non-phone being such as myself; it's taking the "meeting" a bit further into at least casual acquaintances. As a bit of a rabbit trail . . . truth-be-known, I'm really not much of a phone talker, anyway. Phones are great tools for making appointments and for quick questions (and for the periodic catching up with long-distance friends); but that's about as far as it goes with me regarding my appreciation of Alexander's greatest gift to us.

If it's not during my working hours, I have no qualms about not answering my phone if I don't want to answer it (regardless of why I don't want to). Sometimes, even during my working hours, I don't always answer my phone; if I'm with a client or in a business meeting, I never (99.9999%) answer my phone (even if it's another client calling); the client in front of me is paying me for my time and attention, not for me to talk on the phone with someone else. I usually don't answer my phone when I'm with friends neither; there are several factors to consider in such a case. But that could be a whole 'nuther topic. LOL

But yesterday, while not a working day for me, was, in fact, a day where I had to get a lot of stuff done. I simply didn't want to talk on the phone yesterday while I was in that mode, so I let all my calls go into voice mail.

So . . . the above is where you would have found a person of such determined concentration and relaxing art appreciation such as myself yesterday.

I don't have a lot to add...If you were looking for a woman/lady/girl like me, you would need to look in a few places not mentioned...I don't sit in coffee houses (I HATE coffee--the smell gives me headaches), I love books but do my reading at home.

You might find me at a horse show or trail ride. I have traveled as far as Baker, FL (4 hours from my home) so my son could ride in a show there...I will be showing once my mare has had her foal and I can start riding and training her. You might find me at the feed store or Walmart...more likely the feed store though, I spend more time there. You might find me at a ball field. I used to play, now I'm either cheering for my son or helping as a line coach for his games. You might find me at church...I'm sitting in the back with my yarn and crochet hook making something. Often I sneak into church a little late because I had to leave work to go and I'm heading back after...or I had to pick up my son and we were running late. You'll know its me because I'm the one with the kid (wearing a suit and tie--his choice) that is running 100 miles an hour all the time. But most of the time, if I'm not at work, I'll be home working with horses, maintaining the property, building and/or repairing fences and buildings, homeschooling my son, and all the other things that need to be done.

I'd like to find a partner, but cannot justify spending time hanging out somewhere hoping someone will find me....

I met my fireman at the Ground Zero ruins for the first memorial service, October 28, 2001. My church had volunteered to serve the families of the honored dead at Saint Paul's Chapel (across the street from Ground Zero). He was carrying two little boys into the chapel, escorting their mother to a pew. He asked me if we had something to distract them, and I handed him crayons, paper, and Kleenex.

Two days later I was serving hot meals to the rescue workers at Saint Paul's, and he walked in. He thanked me for the food, and asked what happened to the pictures the boys had made. I took him to the pew he had settled the family, pointing to the smiley sun and stick church pictures taped to the hymnal rack. A flicker passed across his face, he thanked me again, and we parted.

We saw each other periodically at Saint Paul's as Ground Zero was excavated. The last day I worked there, I peeled the smiley sun and stick church pictures from the hymnal rack, and mailed them to his fireboat company.

We would see each other at the yearly memorial services at Ground Zero. We had mutual friends from Ground Zero, and would see each other at barbecues, bowling, other loud gatherings. He was going to therapy.

This summer I came home from a national dance competition, and there was a bouquet of flowers waiting for me. They were from my fireman. He congratulated me on my first, and invited me to dinner. I accepted.

I wasn't specifically waiting for him to make his way through his grief.

I wasn't waiting specifically for anyone.

I was, and am still, worshiping God, going to church, volunteering my time, teaching, own a business, go to the opera, buy groceries, browse flea markets and second-hand book stores, laugh with my friends and neighbors, go to concerts, go out on dates, played pick-up soccer, bought paint at the hardware store, read books...I am living my life.

I don't believe in:
Guarding My Heart From Anything except sin
Soul Mates
The One
That God would be dropping me in the waiting lap of some man
That God would have Prince Charming slay dragons in order to introduce himself

I think that it is entirely our responsibility whether we meet eligible people, and that we become the kind of people to be considered...well....eligible to others.

What's this about Baby Boomers?

You know, those of us born between 1946 and 1964.

As to the OP, the thing that caught my eye with my husband (whom I met at church) was his ability to make one feel comfortable and his confidence. He really liked who he was and enjoyed life despite having been married to Attila the Huness - cheater extrodinaire. There was an authenticness about him, a real sincerity about him that really got my attention.

This was it for me with my DH too. He had had a difficult time with his first wife, too. But he was sincere and loved the Lord and it showed. That was what attracted me to him, the rest just fell into place.

Total change of subject, but that's a hop skip and a jump from me. It's the next town over in fact...LOL

Ok, I'm just going to throw this out there. I'm told that I am a "great guy, nice guy, good looking guy, caring and compassionate guy". I'll at least agree with the caring and compassionate part, lol.
I do know I am on fire for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I'm very active in my church which has about 7000 attendees total between all services. That being said, where does a guy meet a girl/women also on fire for the Lord who is also all of the above? I'm kinda shy until I get to know you. I was told recently that I will meet that special girl when I am not looking to meet anyone. Huh ... what the heck does that mean? I pray that God is preparing my future soul-mate for me and that He is preparing me for her. So, do I just hang out at church and "not look for anyone"? I just read what I wrote and wondering how pathetic I am, but I am actually serious. lol

I didn't read all your post so forgive me if I say something someone already did. I am usually at the library reading one of those how-to for dummies books so I can add to my expanse of useless knowledge. Or at my job serving the elderly. Or playing at the park with my son. Or geeting sidetracked in the aisles at the supermarket wondering what I came for in the first place. Or at the gym.

Dear DKsitecivil:

As one who was single for a l-o-n-g time before finding my husband I have heard the "You will find when you are not seeking" drivel many times before. It makes no sense. If you are not meeting anyone, your chance of marrying anyone is non-existent.

I am going to tell you how I found my husband. This may, or may not, work for you. It will greatly enlarge the pool of single females that you will meet.

My strategy was to meet as many men as possilbe. I accomplished this by placing a personal ad in an arts paper (arts because that is a great interest for me and I figured I would meet a Christian interested in the arts this way). I met all kinds of folks, tall folks, skinny folks, on-fire-for the Lord folks, (these are rare) nominal Christians, people with horrible manners, people who had the manners of a diplomat, kind men, vulgar men, amusing men, white men, black men, yellow men, red men, brown men, anxious men, enthusiastic men, fanatical men, older men, younger men, men who said they were 6 feet tall on the phone but were in fact 5'5" when we met in person, wealthy men, poor men, educated men and functionally illiterate men, - you get it, the whole gammit of society.

I would meet them initially for coffee and if we had anything more to talk about I'd leave it to them to invite me out.

Eventually I met my husband who is a wonderful man in every way - a perfect match for yours truly. He is a Christian, who loves the Lord, wonderful family, dad was a minister of a church of my own denomination and he likes the arts, a little. but loves hockey a whole lot more. We've been married 9 years now and I do believe I love him more every day.

This might be one way to conquer your shyness.

You could give this a try.

Loads of luck,

Sudden

I also don't agree with the "you will find when you're not seeking" advice. Doesn't the Bible say, seek and you will find?

I met my soulmate (no theological implication intended, just a term to describe how well we fit together) online. IMO it's just pretty much the same as meeting anywhere else. My strategy was very similar to the one in the post above mine. Meet people, mingle mingle mingle, either in 3D or online, while pursuing your favorite interests and enjoying your life doing your favorite things. Because that's where you will meet a woman who has the same interests.

Compile a list, either on paper or in your head, of the qualities you want in a woman. Then go out, meet people, have fun, but don't settle for less than that.
