Imagine That - Eddie Murphy and little Yara were simply fantastic!!! Thomas Hayden Church was a great opposite as well.

Soccer Mom - A great DVD movie featuring Emily Osmet. Great family film.

Alice Upside Down - Alyson Stoner and Lucas Grabeel. Another great family flick.

Ghosts of Girlfriends past- don't bother. 'ended up turning it off...very slow and not even funny.
Sunshine Cleaning- it was okay. I guess I was expecting more. I like the casts though.

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 double bill in 3D. Not that I hadn't already seen both multiple times of course [:D] but it was great to see it on the big screen again.

i JUST SAW GI JOE. I LIKED IT BETER THEN TRASNFOMER. BEFORE THAT WAS STAR TREK. I LIKEDImagine That. it was kind of boring in Some places. i recommed checking out meet david. its funny moive with eddy murphy.

Couples Retreat - we thought it was quite funny! The clips they show on the previews is about as raunchy as it gets - so not too bad.

watched We Were Soldiers for yet another time and it just gets better. to a Soldier, Hal Moore is highly respected.

I dont think another actor could have played that role as good. Mel Gibson great in it, Sam Elliot just a phenomal actor. SOLID acting.

is great to see war movie that shows it as it was. raw, gritty, and solid.

Transformers 2 - I'm glad I saw this in the theatre before it hit dvd. While I know there was a story line, I didn't care because the special effects were off the hook! Too cool...just too cool.

Last Chance Harvey - I wanted to like this movie, but it didn't work for me. Something was missing. I think it was chemisty. I like both Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, but I wasn't feelin' it.

The Lakehouse - I had to suspend belief with this one, but I liked it and I thought Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock had really good chemistry.

Bloody Reunion

Think of it as another Korea's other variant of Oldboy, i.e, childhood grudges=violent retribution, except much more nastier--BUT, with a plot twist reminscent of The Usual Suspects.

Mon Pere Ce Hero (My Father The Hero)

It's the original French-language version of the Gerard Depardieu-starring comedy--except here we have a then-15 year old Marie Gillain in what is more commonly known to us Yanks as Katherine Heigl's role. Call me crazy but, whenever I watch Gillain's premier role, I can't help but think she hardly aged since the film's premier, circa 1991!

The Proposal- Predictable but it was cheerfully done. I enjoyed the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

My husband was away on business, so I took some movies out of the library. [:D]

First two: Before Sunrise and its sequel, Before Sunset (kind of an unusual sequel--not filmed until 10 yrs later, and definitely not your typical make-a-buck sequel since both movies were indies). The first film tells the story of a chance meeting of a young man and a young woman on a train in Europe, and their conversations as they wander through Vienna. In the second movie, they meet again unexpectedly ten years later in Paris. Some questionable morality involved in both, but if conversation-based movies interest you these are worth looking into. You don't often come across movies this well-written, in which a small cast of two successfully carry the whole movie; in both cases the two leads pull it off and then some. I found realistic portraits in both movies, and am still thinking about the characters and their conversations a few days later.

Also watched Persepolis, a French animated movie about a young woman growing up in Iran from the 70s to the 90s. It was beautifully done--both emotionally engaging and thought-provoking. I did find some it a bit confusing since the young woman discusses not so much the events she experiences, but how they impacted her life--so if you don't know much about Iran it might throw you. Well worth watching though.

I should browse movies at the library more often!

District 9 - I thought this movie would have more "bells & whistles" concerning special effects, but it's really just a sci-fi story really kinda simplified. When I understood that then the movie was okay.

Up - While it's animation and kids will enjoy it just because, the message is to adults and it's a good message.

Gran Torino - Because Clint Eastwood and I go back to his spagetti western and Dirty Harry days, I trust his work. This is an adult drama. If you are easily offended do not watch this movie. I don't think anybody could have played the main character but Eastwood. To me the story was meaningful.

anne-girl - I really liked Persopolis a lot - the story-line, the history, the artistic way in which they used animation - everything was really good. I saw it last year and would highly recommend it.

Recently I watched:

Pride and Prejudice - the 1940s version starring Laurence Olivier. Very good - really enjoyed it. I loved the language - Aldous Huxley helped write the screen play. Such a good story and engaging characters - excellent.

Capitalism - Thought provoking. He skewers the previous administration and well as the current democratic-run congress - bi-partisan criticism. It was a sobering view of what is happening to people in the U.S.

Duplicity - Loved that you had absolutely no idea what was really happening throughout the movie until the very end. A good use of switching between character points of view - not using an omniscient view - I love that - kept you guessing. Suprising moral twist (sort of) at the very end. Plus I like Roberts and Fiennes a lot.

Bridget Jones' Diary: the Edge of Reason. A bit disappointing; not as good as the book, or as the first movie; they cut out some plot lines that were crucial IMO, and added one that left me waiting for the psych-out moment where they reveal it didn't happen... that moment never came. Still fun for fans of the books though.

Rewatched the two latest James Bond movies, back to back (Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace). I like how they changed the franchise in the "reboot", and they were worth seeing again. I do wonder how/if they would have changed the series if the Bourne movies had never been made.

It's based on a graphic novel, apparently (ie comic-book style, not questionable content). I'd like to read it sometime, in French if I can find it.
