And I am blessed beyond measure because our family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) are all very close and actually enjoy spending time together.

That is absolutely great!

My dad's planning on frying the turkey this year. Three minutes per pound at 350* (I think) in an old beer keg with about 5 gallons of peanut oil. Good stuff.

My wife's not looking forward to it, though.

We are going to Tennessee. I am going to meet P's extended family and friends. We are renting a 10 bedroom, four story cabin.

Anything else happening Gary?

So what are your Thanksgiving plans? Big or small turkey? Young and fresh, or old and wise? Deep fried or roasted or cooked in a pit over coals? Innie stuffing or outie? Canned cranberry or fresh? Homemade rolls or store bought?

Up until a few years ago it was big turkey, defrosted and baked in the oven. Stuffing in (Mrs. K) and baked in pans (Mom), canned cranberry and homemade rolls.

This year it will be Cracker Barrel.

My grandparents, aunts and uncles have mostly passed. We used to have 40-50 people at Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year there will be five of us.

Even though we eat out on Thanksgiving Day, Mrs. K usually makes a turkey on the weekend, mainly so that I can have sandwiches from turkey leftovers.

Sounds more like an apartment building than a cabin

You are supposed to stuff the turkey and bake the turkey in a pan.

At least that's how we do it here.

Kerrlaw, you and all the Coffee Corner folks are always so full of good advice. Here are my recent issues that I need help with. All of these have to do with purchasing. I hate purchasing. I need a Personal Purchasing Assistant.

Sewing Machine--should I get the computerized or mechanical? Leaning towards mechanical...computerized says to my brain "hard drive crash".

Turkey Roaster--shallow roasting pan with loose foil on top for roasted turkey, or covered roaster for steamed turkey? Why are all the turkey snobs so insistent that roasted is better than steamed, and yet they make a great deal of fuss over how to prevent dryness in their roasted birds?

Furniture--recover old or buy new? We love our old chairs (large library comfy striped wing chairs), but maybe we should get leather which won't wear out?

Shower--fix grout in tile or replace with synthetic marble? Anyone want to manage the construction workers for me? I've already endured one anger outburst this week (and sadly this outburst was in me).

Applications for position of Personal Purchasing Assistant can be mailed to Kerrlaw's pm box.

Oh good advise being sought--I'm good with advise--giving not following

What kind of sewing do you do? If just simple stuff get a regular machine but if you do lots of dress making or crafts or decor go for the computer.

No advise on turkey--I only eat it--have no idea of best way to cook it.

If you really like the chairs have them recovered if they have a great frame--but it will cost as much as a new chair--although probably less than a good leather. I was a design consultant at a furniture store for years so I do know something about furniture

Do you like the tile? Get it re grouted. If you don't like it get new.

I am ready for retirement so I don't want the job.
