Well, I participated, so the question is settled for me for another year. We handed out candy to passing children. We also had the opportunity to meet our neighbors, who were handing out bibles from a giant stack. It turns out the couple next door are evangelists and they travel all over the world preaching the Good News. They also greeted most of the neighborhood children by name and were rewarded with lots of hugs. I'd rather be that kind of Christian than some of the other kinds.

And I never would have gotten to hang out with them if I had stayed inside and not participated.

I have lived in this little town now for almost 12 years, and I absolutely love that all of these kids who are coming to my door know me and I know them. Having a blast tonight talking to all of them.

We had our celebration tonight. We did have a few kids who showed up in costume. The fliers did all say no costumes. We let them in anyway. Out of several hundred kids, only about a dozen or so were in costume.

thank you for the feedback. I prayed for our neighborhood and our house and took the dog for a walk. You're right, who cares what she thinks, I am comfortable with my decision. Getting ready for thanksgiving. YAY!

I'd be careful. Last year we had someone of Native American heritage who had a grudge against Thanksgiving.

I remember that.

So we went Trick-or-Treating Saturday night.

Thing 2 was snubbed once though and we're not quite sure why he was. He went to a booth to get candy and got a flier. He stepped aside and two little girls behind him stepped up and they received candy.

The booth was from the United Methodist church and he was wearing Harry Potter and they were little princesses.

He was VERY insulted but didn't say anything. Thing 1 on the other hand was headed halfway back to get his brothers candy before I yanked him away.

*sigh*

And now onto Thanksgiving. The Things and I will join my boyfriend and his family so it should prove interesting.

It's been a long time since it was like that here. Parents from different cities and counties come in vans & SUVs loaded with kids that never see our neighborhood the rest of the year.

I will say we went somewhere else to Trick-or-Treat. We live on the outskirts of town and it's not the best neighbourhood in the world. Dark roads, fast drivers, and no sidewalks.

We went to a neighbourhood down the road from my parents and it was nice. There aren't a lot of subdivisions anymore so unforunately people have to take their kids somewhere to go.

Have you ever done the mall? *shudders* It's stifling hot and waaay too crowded and you get way less candy than if you hit a couple of houses.

No one came here. No lights, no welcome signs, etc.

Oh, maybe it's because we are in the middle of NOWHERE! lol.

There is only one good/bad thing about this devil's day.
1/2 price candy that did not get sold....................................lol.
On my second bag. Bah Humbug!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. They should have least given out candy with the flier.

(but I understand that the flier is an issue too.)

A simliar thing happened to my daughter at a town block party. Alpharetta GA throws a great block party in the late spring. My daughter was in costume to help promote the GA Renaissance Fair. She and a friend passed by a church exhibit and one fellow insisted that she take a bible. As much as she tried to tell him, "no thanks I already have three versions at home and I am a christian thank you very much" he refused to believe her. How could anyone be a christian and promote the Ren Fair?!? BTW, the years I worked it there were atleast 6 good strong christians in the cast, a few more that were vendors, etc. It was like a mission field, where we could evanglize by not being bible thumping wierdos but real people who love God.

whatever.
People like that shouldn't be placed in the public until they receive some instruction.

I do think he had best intentions at heart...or atleast I hope he did. I, on the other hand, wearing a t-shirt and jeans didn't even ping on his radar.

It is amazing how people will jump to conclusions. BTW< I have left over AirHeads, anyone want some?

Would it be sinful for me, in pity, to send you a large Hershey bar with almonds, Kerrlaw?

You would surely be rewarded manyfold.

It would be woefully prideful of me to turn down pity chocolate.

You guys think we can just keep this thread going until we need it again next year. And surely we will need it.

Better yet maybe Kath can just go in and change Halloween for whatever holiday is appropriate at the time and save space.
