Yea - it's October!!! It will be a *baby month* for me.

The cooler weather came here all of a sudden. I need to dig out the winter clothes. High's only in the 40's. Today is dark and there is so much water on the road from rain. A sight we haven't seen since probably July, maybe even June.

It's kinda nice to have some cozy inside days even though I miss letting the kids outside.

Annie, I love that pic of your kids!

We've had the woodstove running for the past couple of nights. We figured out a couple of years ago that if it's below 40*, it's more cost efficient to run the woodstove, and if it's above 40*, we should just let the furnace run, so that tells you what it's been doing outside.

Of course our woodstove keeps it toasty warm in here, so when Melissa visits I will have to periodically pitch her out into a snowbank to bring her blood back down to it's usual arctic temperature.

It's raining again. I am SICK of rain! I need to finish the chicken coop, which involves power tools. Call me crazy, but pulling an extension cord out the window of the barn and through the flooded pasture in the rain, and then starting the saw, is not high on my list of adventures for the day.

Well, it would be a REAL adventure!! Just add some gasoline and a grill lighter, and it could be lots of fun!!

Don't think that you guys know about this... last month (or the end of August) my hubby tried to "quickly" burn some brush (burdock plants) by pouring some gas on them (they were green, and he did not want to build a big fire to burn them). The little voice in his head told him to be careful when he lit it, but then he just bent over and lit it! There was a big explosion, and I looked out to see him hit the ground. (I thought that he was unconscious or dead!)

He suffered 2nd degree burns on his right arm, and minor burns on his face. Fortunately CINDY was here, and she took care of his burns that day, and for the next several weeks. His arm is healing wonderfully, thanks to her devoted care.

I am SO thankful for her!!! It was a very emotional thing for me, and I don't think I would have been able to do his care on my own. But I am so grateful that God protected him from those burns being worse. It could have been really, really bad!

Amen!

Funny, though - he wasn't interested in having a bonfire when you guys were over last.

I bought feed and groceries today, and now I don't have any money left. I hate it when that happens.

((((cindy)))) and (((((misaham))))

It is wonderful to watch your friendship online and read how you two are there for each other. May the Lord continue to bless and encourage you both.

And cindy, I pray your dh wakes up soon.

My Mellie dog isn't doing well at all... He's on pred for the auto-immune issues. We knew that would make him drink more. He wasn't concentrating his urine before. Now, he's drinking 2qt of water and it's going straight through. He's no longer asking to go out and just pees in the house. Even through it is clear (impossible to find!!!) it smells very strong. I think it's about time. This is ds2's dog......................

I need to go out for a long run. 18miles in about 2:40. It's cold and windy. I have noooooooooooooooooo desire to run today.

Oh, I am sorry to red that your dog is in even worse shape than before. That is a hard thing to have to face. I'll pray for ds2 and the dog.

Well, hopefully tomorrow we'll get the actual paperwork offering my husband the job they offerend on the phone last Friday. Nothing's real until it's in ink, so I am still a bit nervous.

I am about to take my daughter back home to college for the week. I hope next week is the one she'll find come Christian friends and a Bible study that works for her schedule. Of course, she'll actually have to look first...

You mean you don't just pray and poof! God just drops whatever you've asked for into your lap? Gee, is THAT what my dh is doing wrong???

Sorry, feeling a little snarky today.

Cindybode and Homegrown, praying.

Shadow,
I thought your d already had suitable friends.

Today one of my blessing's peers asked me if my blessing did regular school or homeschool? I considered the source and replied "regular school." I was not about to debate with a 7 yr old about what is and is not school. Plus I knew she had already asked one of the other folks that same question....which was confirmed to me later when I asked the mom. She did go into the "what makes you think it's not regular school" stuff. There is one more mom to ask to see if she was also asked this same question.

It is the season of our rejoicing.....Sukkot! That would be FOT to most of you.

"For unto us a child is born."

narnia,

My dd unfortunately is being double-minded again. Yes, she did attend services and make freinds about three weeks ago, but she did nothing to nurture those relationships and didn't "feel" like attending services again, so....

This past week she did a few activities with ROTC friends, but when asked if they are Christians, she doesn't know if they are Christians or not- a pretty clear indication to me that if they are, they are lukewarm Christians like my dd herself. *sigh* They probably can't tell that she is a Christian.

All those years of training and loving, teaching, singing, worshiping together, AWANA and Sunday school and youth programs, summer camps.....

Another teen at my church chooses to designate himself as a Christ-follower and doesn't want to be called Christian, because of all the other teens in the world (like my own dd) who claim to be Christians because of the doctrine they ascribe to but are not in fact putting into practice the teachings of Jesus.

It just makes me really sad that my own daughter is not a Christ-follower. I laid down my life for her daily, to teach her the beauty of God's holy word and His amazing love for us. I must believe that the incorruptible seed will produce fruit someday, but it is sad that she chose sin at all.

Narania, why does it matter if this little girl was asking around. I wouldn't bother to find out if she asked others.

narnia--I wouldn't worry about the little girl. For a 7yo, "regular" school to her probably is the whole yellow school bus, 9-3 in a building, school. I've had adults make that distinction. I don't think they are being rude, just using "regular" as you would use "traditional". After 9yrs of home schooling, I've gotten pretty good at figuing out the nature of the question (accusing vs informational)

shadow--I so get it... We try our best with our kids then they go and get stupid. Trust me, I'm right there with you!!!

Ds2 is starting to make better choices. Although I am not 100% pleased with the charter school, ds2 seems to be enjoying it. Okay, he's showing up to all his classes and doing the work. Enjoying???

And the Mellie dog... I swear this dog has more lives than a cat. Over the weekend we were certain we'd be putting him to sleep today. We cut back on the prednisone and he's feeling much better. He has the curl back in his tail. He's still drinking a lot, but not nearly as much. Hopefully he still has some time left.

That is an amazing recovery, his! I am glad for it. I once saw a bumper sticker that read "dogs are proof that God loves us" and though not the definitive proof, it certainly is one of them!

((((his))))) When I pray for mine I'll pray for yours, too.

zoe--has your dd1 fixed biscuit pizza for you yet? At FOT I told her how to make it and she said she was certain she could do it. We had it for dinner last night which reminded me.

Sigh... I went out to put mail in the box and found Saturday's mail. The HSLDA magazine was there. You know, I get it that charter schools aren't home school. I know that home school is "better". Really, I get it. I don't want to use a charter school. But, for this season, we're certain that an on line charter school is the best option for ds2.

Also in the mail were photos from the "race" ds1, ds3 and I did a few weeks ago. The one we got to only to learn that this "race" was untimed. The one where I was the overall female winner. Probably the one and only race I will ever win, but because it was untimed it didn't count. But, at least we got some good photos. Ds1 and my finish line photos are typical. Ds3's is pretty funny, as he had two police motorcycle escorts!

I know many adults that feel this way too and are figuring out other names to call themselves.

The girl that asked the question is one of the bullies...so her question may have been innocent, or she may have been looking for another way to pester my daughter. I'm not sure what the motive was, so I erred on the side of caution.

My blessing said a few times already that she wished she did not have a mother. She's going to get her wish when she asks to do things like go outside, gets hungry, etc.... as she will have to fend for herself and will not go outside. We have cereal she can eat.

I am also hoping this will be a good lesson for her in watching what she says.

No but she made regular pizza a week ago. She made the crust from scratch and rolled it out. I did make the sauce but she grated the cheese and assembled the kids' pizza.

I ended my membership with HSLDA this year. Whatever, his. They aren't living your life; you are. Don't let the purists get you down.

Home school families in FL have been using public school online classes for years. Not one person that I know of has suffered any ill effects. You are still home schooling in my opinion. Is your child learning at home? Yes. Are you supervising the content? Well, you are the one who chose the charter school, so in my opinion, yes. You are still supervising content.

If there is anything flat our wrong in his studies, or propaganda disguised as fact, you will be right there to discuss it and offer the opposing line of thought. If your son were actually in a public school building, you would not have that option. But since he is studying at home, you have the opportunity to be very involved in what he is learning, even if you didn't pick the textbook.

So there.

Narnia, I would not ask around about that question no matter if it was innocent or not. You are looking for trouble. Relax. I would only address the situation if she started actually pestering your blessing again. Life has enough troubles without looking for it.

His, Don't worry about the magazine. HSLDA is a group of lawyers that specialize in home schooling not home education. That is where they are coming from. It doesn't make anything that you are doing wrong or less.

Cindy, praying that someone gets you some power tools that run off of batteries!!

I'm at the library so I only have 27 minutes on here..
Dh hasn't answered any of Ds's emails in a week or so. That's the way he is. Ds says he could care less but I know what he really means...
I finally got the motor home to run and charge the battery...Cindy send me some bandaids OK and something for my shoulder. See, I was holding on to the alternator and it decided to fall. My shoulder got pulled down with the alternator.
We put signs up saying $3500 or best offer. Ds says to go $1000 to $1500 more than what we want for it so that we can get what we want.
I was almost ready to take off to MO and see what Dh is doing. Ds said that we are staying here and that there would only be trouble if we went down there and that I would end up in jail! Actually I felt that there would be trouble if we did go down there, too. Especially if he is with someone else or something like that.
I found out he is staying with Dd who I haven't talked to-long story- well she has Dh down there to support her and her Dh and kid now so I guess she stopped calling for money.

Pray that we can get the motorhome fixed and sold. If we do, I am going to find another place to live. OK, it will most likely be around here. I'm not trying to be unstable or anything. It's like this. Dh has called the landlord and said that he was going to send checks for rent. I don't know if he has or hasn't yet. Anyhow I don't think it's right that he knows where we are and we don't know for sure where he is. He decided to walk out and has changed his address (Dd just moved and we don't have hers either or her new phone number). Does anyone understand that? It's like he's got us pinned down to this place that costs way too much for me to pay by myself. I feel like an ant under someone's thumb. I hope everyone understands what I'm trying to say.
We can find a cheaper place and not have to worry if he's going to walk back in at anytime or come up here and take the truck or something like that. I just feel like we should find another place and if he comes around I can call the police. Right now, the apartment is in his name..Now does everyone understand what I'm tlaking about?
I'll be back on in a day or so,OK?

The internet stole my last post!

Something really neat happened yesterday. Some (most) of you know that I've been struggling with the whole faith thing. I did a series of HFP triathlon races this season. In the race packet along with fliers for other races, product samples, etc was a tract by the Race Director. I emailed the RD about something else and thanked him for the tract, how much it meant as I'm struggling right now. He emailed me back with a link to a song that's meaningful to him. I thanked him but explained that I don't have sound on this computer. I thought that was the end of it. Nope! Yesterday in the mail I got a CD. The RD looked up my info and bought a CD with "While I'm Waiting". Wow... I've been listening to it and doing a lot of thinking. I had a 9mile run this morning which gave me time to clear my head.

Ds1 learned to swim this summer so he could do triathlons. Before the race in September, he was at the gym with me every time I went. I only bought a 2 month membership, figuring once the race was over he'd be done swimming until spring. Nope! He wants to meet with the coach again. Coach is busy training for Ironman Florida. His only opening wsa 6am tomorrow morning. I figured ds1 would never go for it, as he is NOT a morning person. Nope! He's a go for tomorrow morning! Shocked me!
