This is kind of like the "Singles Cliches" thread, but the question here is "What are some stereotypes / assumptions / generalizations people tend to make about singles?"

Some I can think of off the top of my head are:

- they all have a desire to get married
- they are too picky
- they are immature / afraid of committment (usually about men)
- they aren't right with God yet
- they have something wrong with them [that makes them undesireable]

Here are a few others:

- they're unfit for leadership
- they're sexually immoral
- they don't have their lives together

Over a certain age and not married , or promiscuous, you must be gay.

That we are ""too old to be single"".

That we would be a "perfect match" for your other "too-old-and-still-singl"e friend.

That we want to go on blind dates with every "too-old-and-still-single" friend you know. :)

Because you are single, you have no obligations. God has allowed me to serve in a big way within the church I serve in. I can't just pick up and go whenever I want to. I have an obligation to my pastor. That misconcecption about singleness burns me.

We are all very, very eccentric. That's why no one wants us.
Oh wait, I am very, very eccentric---so that might be true (just kidding)

Now this one gets me good and ticked, too. Especially if you are spiritually sound and striving to be like Christ and it's visible to the world.

Agreed. Or there's something really wrong with your personality. Or you're very hard to get along with.

It is almost if you are past a certain age, the CHURCH expects you to be in sin if not married. the more perverted, the better.

Oh…Oh I got one,
I hate when married people tell me I need to hold or take care of their children so I can learn how it's done or baby-sit their children (and in one case their pets) so I can practice being a good Daddy. I have feed, clothed and changed more diapers than many fathers I've meet (who often let their wives do all the hard work) and I've never had any children of my own. I guess it would make more sense if I was still a teen or in my early 20's but I think it’s just rude to assume that I know "nothing" about children at all. Am I wrong?

I wonder why there is a new thread for single pet peeves when one has already been established HERE by SciFiGirl.

Because the topic is different. One is for cliches, one is for stereotypes.

I learned from experience: they just wanna babysitter! and they figure singles have nothing better to do.

Someone once said about me that [because I am still single] I'll probably have 20 cats someday. Little did they know that I'm more of a dog person.

Wow, nothing like reviving an old thread, A-Tech!!

An annoyance I have discovered is when people assume that because I'm young, single, attractive, fun, bright, outgoing, etc., I must get asked out and go on dates fairly often. That simply isn't the case...

That I should be excited about ANY attention from men, and see EVERY single man as a possbility.
