I just discovered this minister and I think that he is Great! I bought four of his DVDs of his sermons. Wow! If I lived close to Liberty University, I would attend every service when he preached.

It's amazing how he was raised Muslim and then got saved (I believe when he was 18). His two brothers did also. His Father disowned him and didn't speak to him again until right before he died.

He has two Doctorates and three Masters. Can you even imagine how intelligent he must be?

I love the way he brings his sermons forth - straight to the point, with a little humor in them, full of the Word of God, great knowledge, and then when he's finished, he ends with a bang! The last sentence is a huge statement to summarize his entire sermon and he says it with such emphasis, it almost takes your breath away and leaves you sitting there wanting to digest every word.

Has anyone else heard him? What do you think?

I was not very impressed with Ergun when I listened to his sermon on Calvin bashing or "why I am predestined not to be a calvinist". His representation of the reformed views were skewed, he was not fair in his assessments and he was just plain "off" in his conclusions.

When your argument is false from the get go and your conclusions are predicated upon those false assumptions you are in trouble, but then to tell the folks at liberty that Calvinism is unbiblical and a misrepresentation of God and his gospel you know this guy hasnt done his homework.

In short he has a bias against the reformed faith, didnt do his homework even though he remarked he know more than the average calvinist and he proved he cannot be trusted to deliver an accurate rendering of anothers doctrinal position and then present his own interpretation.

I was disappointed in him over that issue.

I don't know much about Calvinism, but they don't believe in predestination? And Hyper-calvinist believe in super predestination - that every single thing - even a bug bite - is pre-destined.

I may be wrong.

There probably is a discussion somewhere on Calvinism. I was still impressed by Ergun Caner.

I can not tell you the times that I have listened to great preachers that said things that I didn't agree with 100%. I ignore what I don't agree with and listen to the other good stuff. I always learn something, go home, and search the scriptures for myself.

I really wanted comments about him, not Calvinism, or this will be closed.

I also love Ergun Caner. There are many of his sermons on Thomas Road's website, and on itunes. I downloaded a bunch, and they are a real blessing.

Ergun is a great man who loves God and seeks truth. If you've never read/heard his faith story, be sure you do.

Also, Ergun is just plain funny!!! His sermons, aside from being very good, are usually filled with terrific stories from his first pastorate. If you have never heard him talk about dinners at his church you need to. Very funny stuff

I like Ergun Caner too. I bought all this sermons on TV that I could find. But he has more on the Thomas Road website. Is there a way to record them on my laptop while I watch them? I mean the technical way to do it? I don't know much about doing something like that. Also, would that be illegal?

i dont like the way ergun makes fun of other faiths it is totally uncalled for. there are also countless numbers of errors in his testimonies some of which prove that he was not previously a muslim.

he also apparantly lied about having a phd.

to respond to the sister that said "he was raised Muslim and then got saved (I believe when he was 18)". In one testimony he said he was 18, then in another testimony he said he was 16. So how can this man not know how old he was when he converted.

I don't trust Ergun or his brother Emir. As a Graduate Student studying Islam, I would look through his and his brother's books on Islam, and they didn't line up with what scholars such as Phil Parshall have said. The Caners are on the extreme right-wing side, IMO. Don't trust any "scholar on Islam" who grew up in America and converted to Christianity as a teenager.

As far as that goes, his Calvinist-bashing sermon was also terrible and in poor taste. Not to mention the Caners utter lack of humility.

Sorry, but there are better ministry leaders out there.

First off, what should we do, respect and admire false religions that are casuing people to go to hell?? I don't think so. The only way to truly "out" these religions is to show how ridiculous they are.
Secondly, as far as the Calvinist bashing sermon, I loved it. I think that, again like the previous topic, Ergun uses absurdity and ridicule to show the faults in other beliefs.

Ergun has ridiculed nobody but himself. His mistakes that he makes about his supposed former faith makes Muslims laugh because he knows nothing about Islam.

Anybody can be picked on and found fault with. Bet if someone wanted to, they could find something wrong with Billy Graham! Jesus was ridiculed and called every name in the book too, wasn't he?

He is lying NOW, that is what the problem is. He is lying about being a former Muslim.

Ergun lied about his own mother! If a man can lie about his own mother then imagine what else he lies about. He lies about the Quran. He lies about Islam. Some Christians even say he lies about Christ.

He DID lie about his Ph.D NOW.

His credentials aren't genuine. He got his D.Min from Emmanuel University which is accredited by fake institutions, that is why he has removed that from his name on his website. Your logic of "if they were not genuine..." is exactly what they want you to think. And you have fallen for it.

He lied about having a Ph.D. And when questioned he removed the word Ph.D from his website.

Therefore he is lying, is a liar and suffers from the devilish sickness of lying and you people say he is a man of God. I go further and say he is a man of the devil. Lying is against the word of God in every religion.

He uploaded pictures supposdely of him in an Islamic School as a child where he was being "trained to become a fighter". And in these pictures, he is standing with half dressed women (never happens in an islamic school), he is standing with girls in the same line (free mixing is prohibited), he is wearing shoes inside the mosque (shoes are not allowed in the mosque), he even lied about his father!

he lied about his mother wearing niqab because pictures revealed that she dressed like a westerner. she wasnt even turkish, she was white and swedish.

I don't see how you can "prove" all these "lies" about his childhood, home life and personal life unless you were there. Did you grow up with him and live with him?

And my goodness - not everyone remembers the exact date when they were saved. I was either nine or ten years old when I received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I remember that it was winter and my mother was expecting and couldn't kneel down beside me. But since my birthday is in December, I could have been either 9 or 10. Can't remember the date, or even the month and neither can my parents. Does that make me a liar and "prove" that I was never saved?!

No, it doesn't.

If Ergun Caner does not have a degree or a Ph.D., then he is a genius to have studied and learn all he knows on his own without formal training. Perhaps he studied the Bible himself and God taught him. Actually - I prefer to listen to a preacher who learned the Word of God that way, than one who is teaching exactly what he was taught and doesn't know it in his own heart.

I still like Ergun Caner and as I said before - until I hear something with my own ears out of his mouth, or see something with my own eyes that is wrong, I have faith and confidence in him. I like the way he teaches. I like his strictness. I like the way he brings forth the truth and doesn't dance around it out of fear of offending anyone or not getting big offerings (as some do).

It seems that you are listening to those internet websites and swallowing everything that they are saying against him, but are not listening to the man himself.

I question his scholarship on Islam for several reasons:

1) He grew up in America.
2) He converted to Christianity as a teenager (hardly a credible experience in Islam).
3) None of his degrees deal with Islam (meaning which he has not studied it extensively, the same goes for Robert Spencer).
4) He has not spent any time in a Muslim country speaking with Muslims on the street. He speaks as if he has authority on the subject even though there is little authority on it.

With regards to his anti-Calvinist sermon, there was very little truth in it regarding those whom he calls Calvinists.
