ORIGINAL: Mrs.Above_All Trish, you must be tired from all of that cooking. You're not wrong there! Tuesday we came home from grocery shopping after 4pm. Started cooking at about 4.30pm and didn't finish until just around midnight. Joan kept saying I should put it off until the next couple of days, but when they're arriving the next day, you don't want to be doing that. Joan was an absolute classic! She had absolutely no idea that the friends from Wales were coming earlier than she originally been told. Her jaw just about hit the ground. The wife came out, and she was stunned. The husband was following her out with a video recorder in his hand to catch all of the action. She's been saying ever since that she couldn't believe we'd had a secret because she was supposed to be in control. Tonight is round one of the birthday celebrations. I don't actually turn 40 until tomorrow, but there are a bunch of us going out to dinner tonight. It was supposed to be a shared birthday with another friend, but then her son's prom is on this weekend, so she can't make it. Tomorrow night, I'm going to have the original birthday dinner that I wanted. The three of us, plus another friend going out for dinner. Now that the friends are over from Wales, there'll be 12 of us instead of 4. Will definitely have to watch my food intake after the next couple of days.

Which one? Actually, both of them were good. I was really nervous about Friday's dinner. I don't like being the centre of attention. There were 28 of us there that night. All in all though, both were good. Friday I got more dressed up than usual. I thought I'd buy myself something special to wear. Nothing really dressy, but more dressy than my usual tshirt and jeans. With the foils I had put in my hair, a little makeup, which I very rarely wear, people were telling me how nice I looked. Saturday, I was more relaxed. It was John, Joan, another friend of ours, the friends from Wales and I. Only 12 of us. It was a more casual atmosphere, which I really appreciated. It was where I'd originally wanted to go, so I'm glad we got to go there. In other news, my oldest brother sent me a text message to tell me that he'd become a grandfather again for the 5th time. It was a nice silver anniversary present for he and his wife. Now, if only my niece and nephew would marry their partners... Ok, it's late. I'm off to bed. Talk to you all later.

I know what you mean about wishing your niece and nephew would marry their partners. You're happy to see new babies, but sad that they'll grow up without stable families. Glad you enjoyed your parties. Are your friends from Wales still with you?

Thanks Rach, Marsha, Sarah. I think I'll leave the president's job to somebody who has more experience in that area. We said goodbye to our friends from Wales late last night. Nobody wanted to leave and they all said they'd be back. The daughter of the family is going through some really tough times right now, and even though she's not a Christian, she asked us to pray for her. They are still in Perth today, but they had to take their hire car back this morning, so haven't got transport to come over here. We don't have a car either, so we can't got and see them today. They fly to the north of our state tomorrow morning, then fly back to Perth before flying back home. They won't be here long enough though for us to be able to see them before they fly home. There were lots of tears. Joan and the mother get on well. John and the father get on well. I get on well with their daughter. We all just click together. I walked down the driveway last night as they reversed the car back slowly towards the road holding the daughter's hand. When they were about to turn on the road, I had to let her hand go, but she quickly grabbed my fingertips, not wanting to let go of me. It's sad to see them go, but at the same time, I need a break. I had to go and lay down while they were here as I was in so much pain. I only gave myself 20 minutes as I didn't want them to think I was ignoring them. Part way through the first hug with the daughter, I was praying she'd let me go. Not because I don't like her, but because my back was screaming and I couldn't move to try and make it comfortable. She had me in a tight bear hug. I made sure I sat as soon as I got back inside though.

Thanks Ray, Trishy and Marsha. The house sounds so quiet now. Yesterday it was just the 3 of us. We weren't concerned about people showing up to be fed. We used up left overs from during the week, so we didn't have to do much to make dinner. It's a bit of an adjustment going from 11 back to 3, but we'll manage. The 3 of us had been so exhausted, especially after all the late nights we were having when they were here. Bailey likes having company, but for the past few nights, we'd told the kids they could go and see him, but not throw his tennis balls to him. Every now and again, one of his front legs flare up. He doesn't yelp or anything, but he does limp quite considerably. We've been trying to rest him as much as possible. He doesn't understand why we won't throw the ball, but it's for his own good. He liked having the kids around, but I think he's ok that they're not here any more too. Before they all came, we would spend time with him at night after dinner. Seeing as we had a house full of people, he wasn't getting to see us as much and was getting lonely. Some nights he could see everybody through the back door and would start crying as he was so lonely and wanted some company. We gave them all their birthday presents on the last night they were here as we wouldn't be there to share their actual birthdays. We gave the little girl a toy dog that was teddy bear like. She loved it. It looked like Bailey. She named it Bailey and apparently hasn't put it down yet. (We talked to her mother and grandmother last night). She put him on a lead and went around Rottnest Island on the bike with her yesterday. I think the toy Bailey is going to be well travelled from now on. Her mother was given a special bracelet seeing as she will be 40 this year also. I've never seen her speechless, but she was at seeing the bracelet and putting it on. When I talked to her last night, she said that she hadn't taken it off, and it just kept twinkling. The last night we saw her, as she hugged me goodbye, she told me that if she ever got married again, she would wear that bracelet on her wedding day because it was so special to her. It seemed we made some good choices in gifts. Her son was given some kind of leggo. I forget what it's called, but you can make robots out of it. He sat there at the table in between dinner and dessert and got to work on it. He didn't even realise that he hadn't put in his dessert order. Post 31123

Wow, it's been a while since I've been in here. I thought I'd better come and take it off page 2. We could possibly have a car by the end of the week. Sure hope so. Having to ask for rides everywhere wears thin very fast, for us and the people taking us places.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!! I am pleased to announce that we are the proud owner of a Toyota Camry. It is being delivered today. One of our neighbours, who's good with cars, went with John yesterday afternoon to look it over. John and Joan had seen it in the morning, but couldn't decide. If we'd been able to combine the good points from both cars, we'd have had a really decent car. This one though has low milage. It looks its age, but runs really well, and doesn't guzzle gas.

This car is 20 years old too, but is still running strong. Just need the previous owner to get us the proper paperwork. He didn't give us the registration papers, and made some mistakes (dates) on the transfer papers). The guy's at work, so John's left some messages for him. Post 31200
