My brother was cremated. There's no grave, but there is a memorial. It's almost exactly 1000 miles away.

A friend died about six years ago. He has a grave nearby, and I've gone there to visit a few times over the years. There is a distinct sense that he isn't there anymore. One could surmise that to be a good thing.

When I went to my (deceased) grandparent's house in AZ a few years ago for gma's memorial service, I felt the same thing. Even though my grandpa built that house himself, it didn't feel the same without either of them there.

However, their memories are still present in my mind. There will be times where a smell or something will trigger such a strong memory that I'll think about my grandma for days (grandpa passed away about 15 years ago).

My dad still does a double take when he smells the tobacco my grandfather smoked in his pipe and he died over 25 years ago.

Aloha island peeps!

My grandfather died in 90. He was born in 1900 so it was always easy to remember his age when he passed on.

How is everyone doing?

((((ds)))) Here's praying that things will get better with your housemate. And I hope that you find a job soon. I can understand how exhausted you must feel looking!

Jill, how are things going with you? I know the unemployment rate is pretty high in your neck of the woods.

Sometimes I think it's better these days to work a job anywhere while you are looking for a job, job vs. trying to collect unemployment. Collecting is getting slower these days. You have to wait longer than normal because of the influx of people who are applying for it.

It's rather discouraging knowing that the government is trying put band aids on the economy (adding more and more stimulus) to try to stimulate it. I think it just makes it worse...and for some people, more lazy.

Ha.

I understand that Trisha, but the jobs that I have been doing are high stress, high turnover jobs and not always the best pay. You can't put 100% into a job every day that you don't enjoy. I have been praying for a promotion and/or a change so that I can find a job that I enjoy. I guess I just can't find understand who is understanding what I am going through.

Oh I definitely understand Jill. I've had jobs that I didn't enjoy for some reason or another that I didn't put 100% in. I am becoming more and more convinced myself that I am my own best boss. But I simply was addressing the whole unemployment system these days and how it is harder to collect (which is temporary anyway).

::

Praying myself that there will be some solutions to John's schedule. He's still working a somewhat graveyard shift and I've had to wake up in the middle of the night to drop him off. My original plan was to just stay up, even though early and try to sleep early in the evenings. That didn't go so well. So then I tried simply sleeping at a decent time and waking up at a decent time. But every time I go back to sleep after dropping him off I start to dream and sleep pretty deeply. As a result I wake up later than I want to. Ugh. The only thing that can change is if John's schedule changes or if he drives himself to work. I'd rather he not drive regularly just to be on the safe side. So I guess we need to pray that his schedule changes to a day shift again.

I normally don't do "wish lists" but this time around I feel like writing it out...

- A MacBook Pro for use for the ministry.
- A new look for the bed (new sheets, pillows, etc...)
- Money saved for a mini trip to a neighbor island.
- John with a new work schedule. lol

Interview was okay but harder than I thought.

They called and said they would not offer me the position. So I will keep looking.

My wish list (besides the job)

- upgrade my digital camera.
- go on vacation

Continuing to pray for all those that are job seeking.

So, I have decided to "redecorate" the apartment and set a goal for Hanukkah (that means, completing it by then). This will not only feed my desire for creative change (which I have always been like that) but also de-clutter the bedroom. It will minus one piece of furniture and also store any books on the bookshelf that we don't use regularly.

I never realized how important the upkeep of ones home is until I got married. I always heard of people talking about how ones home can indeed reflect our inner selves. I guess it makes perfect sense. Just like our bodies. Good physical health makes it easier to be in good spiritual health.

Anyhoo...

since I want to keep this thread for more purposeful discussions, what do I want to talk about? Hmm...

Since Thanksgiving is coming up, what are some real things you are thankful for this year? Think about it. I sure will.

Looking for jobs is always hard, but especially for me. Even in good times it is hard for me to secure a position.

I have been feeling quite anxious lately. I am hoping that this will change real soon!

I am thankful for soooo much.

* Family who is willing to help out, even without having been asked.
* Beautiful children who know and fear the L-rd with all their hearts.
* A great boyfriend who is willing to teach me and be patient as I'm growing to think about others before myself.
* A church family who would do just about anything in the world for their brothers.
* An amazing G-d who continues to bless me and those around me. Even in these times I know that G-d has His hands upon each and everyone of us and that no matter what happens we will ALWAYS get through it.

(((Mike))) Do you have some vacation time coming up soon? In the midst of all that anxiety it can be tough finding a job because of it. At the same time I think trying to find another one is making you feel anxious. Not sure if how you personally feel about this but try being in prayer about learning more about the Sabbath. If you feel the slightest lead let me know.

Hi Tink! Thank you for sharing! That's a wonderful response to thankfulness. The days are getting closer!

I am thankful for...

my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for dying on a cross to save a wretch like me.

my loving wife who has stuck with me through thick and thin, especially when I didn't deserve it.

two daughters who are dear to me.

a grandson that adores me.

a good job.

a roof over my head.

food on the table.

the ability to sing and play stringed instruments and trumpets to praise Him.

a compassionate heart for helping people in need.

the Word.

friends, and especially these forums.

I'm thankful for food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. These are things we Americans tend to take for granted, but a period of extended unemployment has reminded me that we shouldn't.

I'm also thankful for my church's jobs ministry, which has provided not only a place to seek employment and receive encouragement but also a place to give back by volunteering.

I'm thankful for a church where I hear the uncompromised Gospel of Jesus Christ preached every weekend, and I'm thankful for the small group I joined this fall.

Most especially, I'm thankful for our Lord Jesus' death on the cross for my sins, bearing the punishment I so richly deserve. \o/

I'm thankful for family, friends, a home, a job, food and clean water... so many things. I'm also grateful that the Lord is still at work in me! Healing, teaching and helping me grow.

Hi Tink! Thank you for sharing! That's a wonderful response to thankfulness. The days are getting closer!

I had Wednesday off for Veteran's Day. I still have one more vacation day left until the end of the year, then I get another week come January.

Thank you all for sharing for what you are thankful for. It's such a blessing to be thankful to our Abba Father isn't it?

Sarah, praise G-d for direction huh? I can't wait till your graduation!

ds, thank YOU for giving back. It's not in our human nature to want to give like that when there is struggle. It IS however is in our spiritual nature. G-d bless you!

Gosh Ray, the little one is getting BIG!

Tink, those are some great boys you got there. Good job! How's the Messianic thing going for you and the family?

Mike, combining that one day with your weekend can really help. Maybe do a weekend thing?

Will be back to post more later today.

Hey Trish. Yeah it's been awhile... I've been crazy busy. Work, moving my Godmother from one apartment to another, kids and grandkids... yup, busy.

How about you? Been up to anything fun?
