That's great Ruth. Those things help a lot. It doesn't take the place of physically desiring your husband, but it helps for sure. I really have been in that spot. It sucks. But, fwiw, I think you respecting his wishes and being patient is so the right thing to do. God WILL bless you for that.

ORIGINAL: Sideways ... But, if you knew for a fact that BFing was killing your sex drive, would that encourage you to wean a little earlier then you might've otherwise done? I'm trying hard to be a loving, sexy wife for my hubby, but he's not stupid, he knows I'm just playing a role. And while I might be a decent actress, it hurts him to know that I don't genuinely want sex, as much as I do honestly want to make him happy. Greg doesn't want me to wean before 1 year, so maybe I should just honor his wishes that way. Beth won't be a baby forever, it just feels like it should be wrong to let our sexual relationship slip away. We still enjoy cuddling on the couch and talking about our day. Maybe that's enough for now. Ruth, maybe you answered this elsewhere and I've missed it, but how do you feel about the whole thing? If "respecting your husband's wishes" for the "health of your daughter" (which also means zero sex drive for a few more months) is genuinely okay with you, then great. I don't put those things in quotes to be snarky by any means, but I couldn't quite tell from your post how you really feel about it, based on the other bolded part as well. If you are feeling like something IS wrong and you want it to change, then I think that is a huge part to be considered as well and doesn't (for me) fall into the "respecting my husband's wishes" part. Because it is your body (in regards to breastfeeding) and if you are not doing well with how things are going, then it needs to change for your sake. Knowing myself (and having been/am still in at times) your situation, I also know there are times when I would take the "I'm respecting my husband's wishes" as the free pass because I have zero, zero, zero interest. But I also came to the point a little while ago of, while I have zero interest, I was still convicted that things really needed to change. And so at that point, I wanted the situation to change, even if I still didn't necessarily want sex. I don't know if I'm making any sense or not... Anyway, to sum it all up, I guess I'm saying, a few more months of breastfeeding might be great for Beth, but I'm sure she will continue on in her healthy ways if you decide to wean sooner too. To me, those extra months don't really tip the balance one way or the other in regards to a healthy kid, especially if momma ain't happy!

Well, I kinda feel like we're supposed to be having sex more often, and maybe that's why I'm concerned. Anyways, sorry to go off topic.

It is not off topic since it is related to breastfeeding. ;-) Ok, so do babies need to eat a lot more just before a growth spurt? This kid has wanted to eat almost non-stop for like a day and a half. Finally today though he is sleeping a bit. Gonna wake him in a bit and try to keep him awake until time for us to go to bed tonight.

That's amazing...neither of my three have had the capacity at newborn stage (i.e. under 3 months) to stay awake for more than 30-45 min. per awake session, let alone 5-7 hours without getting overtired and fussy (in Jael's case that meant her screaming to block out all noise, etc. as her comforting mechanism...which was *very hard* to deal with).

Mine could too Kim. It's actually been the norm for all 5 of my kids to stay awake for at least an hour at a time, even as newborns. In fact, Abigail started staying awake for 2-3 hours at a time at about 6 weeks. I never thought it was anything but normal LOL. I have always gotten comments on my kids' alert-ness.

Like I said....tell your husband what you need...that you are needing more....and see where the discussion leads. You can at least start the process of weaning her so that there is an end in sight for you.....

have you tried hand expressing after pumping? It will often get more milk out (in fact...I can only hand express...pumps do not work for me at all!).

maybe pump first...then hand express after.... it does take some serious effort to hand express and it takes "practice" to get it into the bottle.... My cousin used the "pump" funnels to express it into.....so it was easier to get in bottles that way. I am sorry I can't offer more help.

I used to use a hot compress while I was pumping, it seemed to help me get more. You could use 2 smaller rice bags and microwave them before you go to pump.

Hello Ladies! Well, I'm "officially" a member here I guess. LOL Audrey's done really well with nursing! She latches fairly easily. The only problems we've had are 1) she wants to nurse just on the nipple; and 2) she chomps really hard at first and then starts sucking after several very painful chomps. I've almost fixed the nipple sucking (just relatching) but need help with what to do about the chomping. One nipple is cracked a little and bleeds just a tiny bit.
