We've gone slowly with solids. We started him on vegetables and then added fruits. He gagged -- GAGGED at green beans, so Erin, I totally get what you are saying about Klay being protective of Isaac about choking. They can GAG on things, even on water.
Only recently did I start tearing up little pieces of my chicken (like shredded chicken by the time I was done) and handing it to Adam to eat. He only has 3 teeth and it's my opinion that you cannot really compare a child with 6 or 8 teeth (and what they eat for solids) and a child with no teeth or 3 teeth. It's just not the same. Well, at least for MY kid. 
He gets plenty of solids each day - mainly fresh fruits and vegetables and he gets prunes EVERY.DAY. We've added in organic yogurt after his first birthday (diluted with water) and he is doing fine with that. In fact he LOVES yogurt. Loves it to the point when he's done eating it he gets bummed out that it's gone.
We are rice people here but when we've given rice to Adam he just squirrels it in his cheeks (like chewing tobacco) so we've pulled back on that. Only today did we add oatmeal back in HOPING AND PRAYING that he now has the digestive enzymes to deal with it since some kids don't get all the enzymes until 12-18 months we are hoping he now has what he needs. He likes cereal so it would be nice to have it back in the repertoire.
It must be so different when you have a second or third kid. I swear if I had another kid (which ain't gonna happen, people) I would probably be like "Look, Junior, here's a block of cheese and a hamburger. Have at it." 
Kimberley, thanks for the words about Jael. That helps. The most recent comment we got on Adam's size I was shopping with my MIL and some lady saw Adam in the grocery cart and said to me "Oh, he's so cute! What is he, like 3 or 4 months old?" So I said "He just had his birthday on Monday," and she said "Which one?" (????) and I said "He turned one." And she said "Oh, how silly of me. I can see he is far too advanced to not be older than 3 or 4 months."
Seriously, a kid would be sitting up in a store cart if he were 3 months old???? Unassisted? Looking around and pointing and exclaiming with joy about everything? I would love to meet that three month old baby if such a baby exists.
My, I am wordy today. My laptop's power cord has been acting poorly so I am just glad to have some juice in my laptop for a bit!  Sorry for the long post.

Now, that's why I just ask how old a child is... so much easier that way.
Although I think I've commented on how tall a child was (for tall kids, not short ones), but the moms didn't seem to mind. CW always gives me a lot to think about, that's for sure.

Now see...all my kids have been late teethers and they all are eating pretty much what we are before they have teeth. No troubles. They must have super tough gums or something. 
I don't care when other people feed their kids solids or what they give them. I just do what works for me.
I do comment on baby's sizes, but in a pleasant way, if that makes sense. I am happy to see sweet babies who are loved...big or small. And I like to talk to other moms and it's a way to open up conversation sometimes. I think a lot depends on the tone and facial expression when you're commenting on stuff like that. It doesn't offend me when people comment on how big my babies are either. Why should it? They are healthy and I often called them my little fatties, so I don't care if someone else says the same.

I don't mind if the comment is something like "Awww...he's so cute!! Look at those chubby thighs!!" What upsets me are the "Wow, he's fat!! What are you feeding that kid?" kind of comments.

People are just silly about baby size. My little girl is tall and skinny just like dad is and just like I was growing up. If it were not for adjustable waists I would have to get her suspenders. People comment on how tiny she is and ask is she "okay". There she is running across the run, jabbering away, happy as a lark. Yes, she is okay.
My family tends to eat healthy and I keep her on healthy diet as well. I am not talking about restricting her calories or fat but healthy, things like whole grain rather than processed, real fruit and vegetables rather than sugary juice. I have had people tell me I need to feed her junk food so I can fatten her up. I could not believe that advice.
People have some very strange opinions and advice out there.

The funny thing is, she was 8lbs 10oz when she was born and a little chubbers until she was 6 months (breast fed only). All of sudden she just shot up in heighth. I think she is adorable. The poor little thing has no heinie. She definately doesn't get that from me! There are two things huge on me this pregnancy, my belly and my bottom and NOTHING ELSE. I look funny, I think.

What was her reasoning for that, Manda?
Gabby LOVES fish, especially salmon. Which is good because we eat a lot of it for dinner.

Nathan has not been terribly fond of fish, but then neither am I. I can't cook it to save my life, and I rarely like it when dH cooks fish.

With salmon fillets, I just poach them in the oven in a milk/water mix, with parsley, chives and a little black pepper for 20 minutes on a medium heat (Gas Mark 4 or 5). I do the same with trout. With cod, haddock or plaice I prefer to buy breadcrumbed fillets and oven bake them at Gas Mark 7 for 20-25 mins.
Alternatively I use canned salmon, tuna, pilchards and sardines. My ds loved pilchards mashed into mashed potato for his lunch when he was about 2 or 3.

I didn't ask. I usually just feigned interest, and said "that's interesting, thanks, I'd not heard of that" and then just got on with whatever I was doing. 
When you take into account that this came from a woman who, when she had visitors coming, would do all her main course cooking for the next 3 days, then leave it out on the kitchen counter (ie not refrigerate it) and just reheat it when she wanted to use it.   Needless to say, when we visited her with our ds at age 2, I brought food with me for him. Which of course put her nose out of joint, but hey, I wasn't prepared to put him at risk.

Oh Manda, that is just gross. I have always been picky about handling food but then I had to take a food safety course. Now I am a bit crazy about it. I am really diligent with temperatures, how long I keep it etc. It is better to err on the side of safety than on the side of food poisening. I wouldn't have let my daughter eat that food either.

That was my life growing up (i.e. a HUGE can of store bought chili cooked on say Monday and left in the pot for the rest of the week, on the stove to be reheated for whenever anyone wanted some...ick! ). Joel is always amazed that I didn't die of some food bourne illness! My mother did this one of the years she pressured everyone to come to her house for Thanksgiving (after I had married Joel). She cooked a ham and all the trimmings like a week in advance or something like that. It all tasted fine that night (she had reheated everything) and she sent us home with some 'left over bags'. We refrigerated them as soon as we got home and had them the following night for dinner. I was literally lying on the floor between our bedroom and the toilet for the entire night and the rest of the next day. I don't think I've been that sick in my entire life up to that point. It was horrible!
And the real kicker...she actually had the gaul about a year or so ago to 'lecture' me in an email about proper things I should be feeding my family!!! I had to be firm (probably slightly rude) and tell her that I didn't need her advice on how to cook for my family and then I gave her some of the examples I remembered of her cooking growing up. We've not had a discussion on what I cook for my family since.

We are back to her first Dr. I talked in length with him the other day and we are all on the same page. No more Dr wean-at-night for us. I even called the office manager to talk about I felt treated.
Isabel loves food. She can eat just about any texture now. She has 1.5 teeth.
She's 18#12 oz and 28 inches long. Her head.... 46.7 cm!! She's almost off the chart. I told the Dr that jeremys head was super big too and we aren't surprised by Isabels.

Well, Beth is sleeping well at night, but I'm not. Either I hear Nathan having a nightmare or like tonight, one of my breasts is hurting again. Sure hope it isn't mastis again, but I'm betting it is.
Just seems awful funny to have an 11 week old that barely closes her eyes during the day and sleeps so much at night. Not complaining mind you, I just get a little worried that such a little tummy goes so long without food. She even refused her last feeding of the night last night at 10pm, so she hasn't eaten in quite a while.

My dd started going down for the night at 7pm when she was only 10 weeks old, after a 6.30pm feed, and sleeping right through till 5-5.30am without waking at all. I tried keeping her up, tried waking her to feed her later, but she didn't want that and would get upset at my efforts (she was normally a very placid baby). So I just went with it. It felt very strange but I didn't see the point in trying to fight her! She'd want to feed every 3 hours during the day, and by the time she was 5 months she was going down at 7.30pm and waking just after 7am, which was great!
She was just so very "easy" after my experience with my ds - honestly, if I'd had her first, I'd likely have had my 2nd child a lot earlier!!

Now today she's been snoozing in people's arms, but it's Saturday, so there are more adult arms around.
Nathan had his party today, and it went very well, but I think he had a little 'too much birthday', as he was in tears by naptime, probably from over stimulation. The party didn't go to long, and we gave him time to wind down afterwards, but it was still a lot. Even he kept saying "Nathan tired" It's nice of him to tell us, I guess.

Esther is 7 months old today. She just pulled herself up to standing next to the couch. I always get the movers and shakers.
We've both had a nasty cold since her well child appointment Monday. Grrrr.
