Donna, I don't think our church even knows about the surgery, but I have a few meals ready. Greg will just need rest, and he should be ok. Thanks for the prayers.

Wow, it sounds like everyone has been so busy!

Garsy, I am glad your van is up and running again. That day you described is one of the days that tends to throw me off - I have a hard time rolling with the punches these days. I don't know what's going on with that.

BlessedMama, I am so sorry you have to miss your conference! I hate when plans get sideswiped by emergency car situations .

Karen, we are working on our emergency fund right now and it is HARD not to touch that money, especially since there are so many things that need attention right now (of course, none of them are emergencies lol), it makes it hard to leave it alone.

I have been nursing a headache for going on 4 days now. I have no clue what's causing it. I take some advil and it goes away for a little while, then comes back. It's driving me nuts.

Little miss fussybritches is coming back today - her mom took her to the doc while she was home with her and turns out she has an ear infection and a sinus infection - could be why she was crying so much last week. I told her mom we would try today and see how she does; if she starts running a fever or crying incessantly like last week, she has to come pick her up. Her mom was not happy about that (she has already missed a few days of work), but she agreed (like she has a choice ). My kids have missed way too much school already with all the colds and flu going around, I'm not taking chances I don't have to take. The sooner I get out of the babysitting business the better .

Bad news, there's no way I can go away next week. I was supposed to go to a women's conference for pwoc, but I'd need about 50 bucks. No go. Oh well. There's always next year!

I hate it when that happens! We've had plenty of trips canceled due to car trouble but we also had a couple of trips extended a couple days due to car troubles. neither are much fun to tell the truth.

I didn't sleep more then a couple hours last night. Blasted insomnia! I'm tired now, but I have a few things that need to get done today BEFORE everyone starts showing up at home this afternoon. The kitchen's already been mopped, and the living room dusted and vacuumed. I need to clean the downstairs bathroom and the kid's bathroom still. and make myself a dental appointment. We don't have insurance right now but this can't wait any longer and we'll have to use our reserve. Hate to do it since we've already used so much to get the van up and running again. But I told hubby this could be my Christmas and birthday gifts for the next couple of years!

Blessings,

Garsy

Jenn, I'm sorry to be being "relentless" again, but if the baby is ill, why have you taken her at all?

I wonder if it could be the start of an ear infection or a sinus infection .......................

I guess it could be, but I have no other symptoms, not a runny nose or anything at all. I know that doesn't always matter, but I guess I just usually look for those things first.

I don't know why I took this child on in the first place. She had a runny nose for over a week, but it was clear and there was no fever, so her mother kept telling me it was teething or allergies. No reason not to take her if it's not something contagious (other than my own annoyance factor I guess).

HOWEVER, I did look at my state's policy for licensed providers (those who keep more than 3 kids other than their own) and their policy states that you should not keep any child with a fever of 100 degrees or above, or if their runny nose is yellow, green, brown, or any other color besides clear. I honestly just don't want to keep sick kids at all. There's too much of a risk to my own household - I have 4 kids to think about and if Aaron catches it, everyone catches it! SO, I explained this to her last night and told her that as long as she has been taking her antibiotics, and as long as she has been fever-free for 24 hours and has no other symptoms then she can return. If she starts to run a fever AT ALL or is excessively fussy, she has to pick her up.

There is the issue that sometimes babies will run a low fever with teething (although docs swear up and down this is not true ) and that sometimes they will get a little bit of a runny nose during allergy season or with teething, so sometimes it's hard to tell if they are sick or just teething. I guess that's why I need to put a policy in place and be firm about it.

It's what I'm working on today, so that I'm prepared when she gets here.

Jenn, I was just wondering about you! I am so glad you posted. I am sorry to hear about the headache. That is just a nasty bother.

My Hannah gets a runny nose (clear) at the drop of a hat. I watch her like a hawk because of ear infections. If we always stayed home becaue of her nose, we would never leave the house. Teething and allergies both make her nose run. In fact, most of the time that nose starts going, I can look up the mold count and guarantee you it will be high.

Our emergency fund will be refreshed at income tax time. We get ours back at the beginning of February. We are just crazy tight right now with hospital and dental bills. I had to put some on a credit card which just about killed me. We never put things on a card we don't immmediately pay off but my dental issues far, far exceeded my coverage. What could I do?

I do try to have sympathy for working moms and sick kids. I know some of them simply lose the days pay when they have to stay home. When that is what you are feeding your kids with, it could be a hard choice. I used to be much less tolerant but then I remembered that it is a huge blessing I get to stay home with my littles.

Greg made it through just fine. He said he's already breathing better then on his healthiest days, and he hasn't even healed yet. The surgeon has performed over 1000 of these surgeries, but he never does more then 4 per week. The doc pulled out a lot of large polyps from his nose, and some areas were perpetually blocked, which made plane flights a real bear.

Greg should also get sick a whole lot less and sleep better at night. He was always so tired, even on nights when he got 9 hours, never mind the usual nights with our two.

Sounds a lot like me when I had my tonsils out a few years ago. They were blocking about 90 percent of my throat and were causing obstructive sleep apnea. Other than the first night when I was groggy and in a lot of pain I felt better than I had in years. I am so glad I had it done before being pregnant/having a newborn around - I can't imagine how exhausted I would have been considering how bad my "good" days were before the surgery.

I'm glad for you, too, Kris!

Well, Beth is down hopefully. Nathan was in bed before 8, and I just made a grilled cheese sandwich for the sickie. I think that's required eating, or something. The toys are picked up, the kitchen is reasonably clean, and I'm wiped, but hopefully we'll have a quiet night.

No laughing now....

Not laughing, Ruth. Praying for Greg's recovery and a good night's sleep for all. One of those has to stashed around your house somewhere, right? Maybe where the missing socks live? That's where I think my brain has gone! How are your kids adjusting to the time change? Josh isn't quite adjusted - he keeps waking up before 6. I've got to get to bed early tonight to make up for it.

We're doing ok, actually on the time change. Nathan gave up naps not to long ago, so his nights were getting longer to compensate. Beth has good nights and bad nights, but she's just going to bed a little earlier. Nathan has had a stuffy nose, so that's been affecting his sleep. I swear the kids like to take turns.

Praying for your night as well.

I'm so blessed! I told my friend (also the organizer of our travel to the women's retreat) that I couldn't go because of the money issues....she raised the money for me. I found it in a card in my car after pwoc. I don't deserve such kindness.

Jenn, do you want me to email you a copy of my policies and procedures? I know we are in different states, but at least it would give you some ideas.

Please, please do! I had a major meltdown yesterday, and told BOTH moms that I would be giving them a copy of my "official" policy on Monday because they BOTH brought me sick kids yesterday and by 10am I was a wreck. The two littlest ones had been crying almost nonstop for over 2 hours by that point. Miss Fussypants had an earache and the little boy sounded like he had croup. All I know is that they both cried and could not be consoled. By the time hubby got home I had the worst attitude on the planet.

The lady who trimmed my hair butchered it, and I'm still trying to decide if I want to go up there and tell her how I feel about it. It's not the worst haircut I've ever gotten, but it comes mighty close.

Speaking of coupons, my hubby got 3 boxes of Cheerios for just over $1.00 this week. I'm in awe.

I had to make 2 dozen cupcakes for a funeral this afternoon. A woman (was in my sisters class) had her three kids with her (kids wanted rides on the combine) and on her way home she turned off the dirt road going the wrong way on the hi-way. She was not buckled and the oldest two kids (10, 8) were not buckled either. The two kids surrived but the mother did not. She was 34. The baby (2) was the only one who was buckled in her car seat.

Jenn, I hope you straighten those moms out!

dH drove himself to the doc for his follow up. He isn't feeling well, but I was juggling kids and I think he didn't want to wreck my morning.Nathan was dropped off at MMO, Beth is napping, so we have some peace and quiet. I've been trying to keep the kids out of his hair, but recovery from this really does take at least a week.

I actually got 6.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night! And is it weird that I've been getting into the Jeopardy teen tournament? Hey, I can answer some of those questions.
