It's in community, Duane.

There's a part of me that would like to go to Argentina some day. I suppose if I'm going to do that, I'll need to learn Spanish. I'm not good at learning new languages though. I can speak English, sometimes. I still get very tongue tied over it, especially when I'm really tired or the fibromyalgia kicks in. I tried learning my indigenous language, (Maori), and failed. Even all of the 'white' kids did better than me. Talk about EMBARRASSING!

I know what you mean, Trish. I wanted to learn Gaelic until I saw it written.

You got that right! We see some of the words on travel shows and "Songs Of Praise" and they just look like the letters have been jumbled up and thrown down.

LOL . . . I love to look at the written Gaelic language!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Are pomegranates really worth eating?

I can go quite a long time without caving in and buying a pomegranate . . . months upon months upon even more months.

Earlier this week was not one of those times.

They were on "sale" - 2 for $5.00, and I just had to buy some. Two, in fact.

So, just a while ago, I decided to cut into one of those gourds of amazing fruit.
To be precise, that was about 30 minutes ago, and it took all that time just to get to the point of being able to eat my long-awaited snack.

Have y'all ever seen the inside of a pomegranate? Always reminds me of a honeycomb filled with bees.

So, I sliced the pomegranate in half, and started the work of removing the arils from the "honeycomb."

I'm glad I was wearing a dark shirt cuz now I have to treat it with stain remover to get all the squirts of pink juice off it. Usually, I remember to change into a raggy ole t-shirt. Not this time.

I also had to clean off my monitor of more of those pink juicy splotches.

So, I finally get all the "kernels" removed from it's peeling shell; of which such peeling shell is now in a huge pile on my desk . . . don't worry; it's not a wooden desk; and it will be fine after I throw away the peels and wipe off the sticky sugar residue from the desk's surface.

Now . . . my reward . . . a plat FULL of ruby red arils of exquisite, tart deliciousness (around 800 of 'em, in fact; that's the "average" number for one pomegranate; eaten, of course, with a spoon) In a few minutes I will have partial plate full of, uhm, discarded white seeds. Some people eat the seeds; and there's nothing harmful in doing so (and they're actually high in fiber). For me, however, I'm only after the juice; the seeds kinda ruin the experience for me . . . kinda like eating a bowl of icecream with pieces of hay mixed in for good measure.

No wonder I've never seen pomegranate on a menu before. It's definitely not a food to be eaten among polite company.

Tea towel, anyone?

Man, my keyboard's sticky.

and now, speaking of Ruby Red . . .

Trish, the link above is to the song, "Ruby Red" by the Kingston Trio, back in the '60s.

Prayer Request for Kath

taken from another thread (in Women's Only):
OK y'all...Kath finally got back to me about this poll thread. (-sidenote, y'all pray for her, she didn't get back as quick as she usually does because she has H1N1-).

Here's a quick and easy way to seed a pomegranate:

Here's another method, but the first is my personal favorite :)

I don't know, Kimberly . . . that first video example seemed awfully messy. LOL

And who knew there were so many pomegranate videos on YouTube?!

Ironically, after I posted about my pomegranate experience, I did some searching around, and >>> this method <<< seems to appeal to me the most. (scroll down to the written "Instructions").

And HEY! I just discovered that November is >>> National Pomegranate Month! <<<

The net is a veritable encyclopedia of information.

I've never had a pomegranate in my life. I'm not real experimentally inclined where fruit is concerned. Big melon and apple fan. In fact, I'm gonna bake an apple pie Sunday. One of the local markets has gala apples for $.99/lb. That's nearly half price. I'll pick up a few granny smith's to mix in. Oh baby! I'm drooling already!

I've been thinking about having the kids try different foods one day a week. I've never had a pomegranate (or a lot of other things!). Good to know I can research them on youtube to figure out what I'm doing. LOL

I really like pomegranates. I was first introduced to one while renting the room from Carolyn and Steve down here. Carolyn demonstrated how to cut one up. I'd never had one before. Now I like them. Her way of cutting it up works great. I can't look to see if it's one of the ways posted cuz I can't do youtube from here. I eat the seeds.

The seeds are to be eaten.

There's nothing more to say about that.

Thank you, Sharon-Marie, for letting everyone know. I was just too sick to do more than let Fritz know I wouldn't be around for a few days.

I appreciate the prayers. :)

((( Kath )))

Got the boy a flu shot today through the Mullen Clinic. We tried to get him a shot at Walgreens last week, but they won't do shots on 13-year-olds.

Mmmmm ... we love pomegranates! We like to squeeze the little seeds in our mouths because it's funny when they burst. Okay, we're goofy. But the seeds? They go in the trash.

I haven't had a pomegranate in years... Now I'm craving one...

Kath - good to see you among the living! I can empathize. The good news is that we are now immune...

Y'all!!!

Watch this video!

THAT is one excited and happy groom!

I just realized something, when/if I get married I might be so anxious that I might hyper-ventilate!

Wish I could.

Have you seen the wedding where the wedding party danced down the aisle on youtube? I haven't, but our "Dancing With The Stars" this year re-enacted the whole thing on the show. It was so fun and funny!

Now I remember that one too, that was a fun one as well!

So you dad tells you, "Yakkity yak! Don't talk back!"?

I was reading a book where two of the characters communicated with song lyrics. It was cool to see. I didn't know any of the lyrics because they were from one hit wonders before my time, but it was still cool.

There used to be a thread in forums where people would communicate only with song lyrics as well.

Oh my, that is the second person who I have heard that has it within the past 24 hours! I hope that she recovers real soon!

My mother gets me a pomegranate annually. It's a tradition.

I eat the seeds, because it never occured to me not to. They're so tiny. Surely no harm is done to my innards.

One year a man I used to know had a pomegranate tree and he gave me several. I took them to a nearby gourmet bakery where the owner made pomegranate sorbet for me. It's was great!

Pomegranates are very tasty, but a lot of work. Fortunately Trader Joe's sells them already removed from the pith.

Here's a cute photo of Orion from earlier today. He's so darn cute!!!

Here's a photo of Andrew dressed up for Halloween for work. He was dressed as an Olympic gold medalist in track. The perspective in these photos makes him look like a giant in a dollhouse! LOL
