Thanks for the response Remnant85, I meant my post to be a generalization for all believers and not specifically pointed towards you. But yes as instructed in Scripture we must all examine ourselves to know whether we be in the faith or not. One Scripture that I use for this self exam and to help others is; (Gal 5:22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (Gal 5:23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Now these attributes are not a list that we are to perform, but should be a natural outflow and reflection of Christ in a believer. If they become a list to perform; then we have wandered over into legalism, and of course that is an area we do not want to be in. Thsnks RC

rcjames - I meant my post to be a generalization for all believers and not specifically pointed towards you. Aw, schucks - and here I thought you were just a talkin' ta lil' ol' me! lol Seriously, though - in regards to your last two sentences; Yes, I agree! That's one of the big admonishments Jesus gave the Pharisee's/Scribes, because they went by the LETTER of the law - instead of the SPIRIT of the Law. -charles

As RC pointed out, we will know that we are His by our fruits. If we have the fruit of faith, love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, and temperance (self control or balance) growing in us, we are saved. We cannot cause these to grow in us of our own strength, but only as we abide in the vine (or word of God). As we abide in the vine, the sap (Holy Spirit) fills us to produce these fruit and cause them to grow in us. I can see the faith that you you have from your posts, showing that you are abiding in the vine. This is another way of knowing that you are His, by your faith in Him.

You sound like me... I can tell you what has helped me and that is gaining an understanding of grace... coming to see tha tI am justified by grace... by faith. I think most people who "get it" early in their walk assume that everyone else "gets it" too but the fact that the body of Christ is full of folks struggling with besetting sin shows that the majority of believers don't "get it"... we really don't think that we are really justified and washed white as snow, that we really are spotless and without wrinkle. It is this knowledge and really believing it that makes it possible for us to receive power for holy living. There are many books on sanctification and grace but I know of only one that truly will set you free. I will post a link. If you want one but cannot afford one, PM me with your name and address and I will buy and send you one. It is one way I minister, I gove away books so feel free to ask, this goes for anyone. http://www.monergismbooks.com/The-Gospel-Mystery-of-Sanctification-Paperback-p-17152.html&xid=2282021b5fd9c7319b97bd5e560ebc79 Julien
