Perhaps by using the FW button to spread truth just as enthusiastically as it has been used to spread rumors, and we can end 30 years of Christians looking like gullible morons. Sometimes people get mad at me for doing this- for sending them links to show that the email they just sent me was a hoax, but I truly believe that until we as Christians get into the habit of dealing with lies and rumors, even through email, we aren't going to be credible when we try to spread the Gospel, KWIM?
It is a sin, IMO, to knowingly repeat something that we have not even attempted to verify. Just because Aunt Sally sent it to you, and Aunt Sally is a wonderful woman, doesn't mean that we shouldn't take the time to make sure we are being completely truthful when we pass on information.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. 
I also get extremely annoyed with Christians who forward (or recount) factually inaccurate and far too often defamatory information whether it be in email or in person. What is scary is that I have actually heard the stuff of "these emails" given in examples that have been preached from the pulpit. I left a church once because the new pastor continually did this and neither he nor the elders of the church were concerned about it when this was addressed.
On a side note: Sometimes teasingly I will pass this kind of info to someone who I know should know better, but I think I might take the bait; however, I always follow up with the the truth and teasingly give them a really hard time if they bit. For example, one time I handed a guy at work a printout of hoax that described the spread of computer virus' over the power lines, as I handed him a box of "virus protected" power strips so that he could replace the power strips on all of the computers so that our computers would be "protected." When he was done we did let him know the truth.

I went to the funeral of a family member and the Pastor actually used one as a talking point. It was something about a hand made tablecloth and a loving couple. I about died. As for forwarding a nasty reply, I did this with one that talked about how nice it was to live back in the 50"s when no one had to wear helmets, seatbelt etc. I must have had it that day and sent a not so nice note along with the forward. I wasn't rude just voiced my angst. My mother didn't talked to me for awhile.

Several of those 'Gary Hogan in Iraq, pray for my wife' type things have ended up on our church prayer list!
I really don't have the time to send out 'false' with links to the correct info for every hoax or forward I receive each day. In fact, I also delete most forwards too, without opening.
I had a woman tell me one time that to not answer my phone when at home is LYING. She claims it implied I was not home.

My phone is for my convenience, not the convenience of every yahoo that finds my number.
My house is for my comfort and shelter, and I do not have to open the door every time the bell is rung.
My email account is also for my convenience and I am not bound by any rule of propriety to open/comply with everything that ends up in my inbox.

I don't get this stuff in my Email, mainly because I'm anti-social and have no friends. Where I see it is on some of the other forums I inhabit. Someone will post something they got in an email. Sometimes it's the usual urban legends or the chain emails where you are shamed and judged if you do not send it on, most often it comes in the form of a poignant story or morality tale. It is presented as the story of a real event. Some may be based loosely on some obscure event in time, most are probably made up. The changing details and time frames should be a tip-off. Some of the stories are quite good, as stories, but when misrepresented as truth or tagged with a shaming/condemning "pass it on" note I begin to get an itch in my slapping hand.
