**Video Below the Fold** The co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, Valerie Jarrett, appeared on Meet the Press this weekend and used, shall we say, an interesting word to described what she thinks Barack Obama will be doing in January when he's officially sworn into office. She told Tom Brokaw that Obama will be ready to "rule" on day one. It's a word that reflects the worst fears that people have for Obama the "arrogant," the "messiah," that imagines he's here to "rule" instead of govern. Jarret told Brokaw that "given the daunting challenges that we face, it's important that president elect Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one." LINK Can someone clue this "constitutional law professor" that we are citizens not subjects. Citizen: 1. A person owing loyalty to and entitled by birth or naturalization to the protection of a state or nation. 2. A resident of a city or town, especially one entitled to vote and enjoy other privileges there. Subject: adj. 1. Being in a position or in circumstances that place one under the power or authority of another or others: noun 1. One who is under the rule of another or others, especially one who owes allegiance to a government or ruler.

Ugh. Hopefully she meant it in the "DUDE! You RULE!" context. :P

If this had been a conservative incoming president and the word 'rule' was used, experts, academics, political pundits, etc. would be all over it's usage. However, given the nature of our new incoming president and the circumstances that surround his election, it's just the opposite. They want him to RULE like no other, especially over the evil conservatives who have oppressed this nation for so many years. Unfortunate that the grammar police are often mixed in the media with the other liberal elites and only rear their head when the right misuses words.

Open mouth, insert pump. This would be funny if it weren't so frightening.

If I believed in gambling, I'd say anybody want to take bets on when the giant posters of himself will go up? (You know, like the ones he had at several of his campaign headquarters.) -Robb

Perhaps a discussion for another thread - but there's already serious talk of a national Barack Obama Day.

Just as the inverse is true in this case. Everyone else (i.e. most reasonable people with lives) would just see it as a simple slip of the tongue and move on.

What's with the empty fear-mongering? Why not give the guy a chance to screw up before you bury him alive? ... he is your president after all - doesn't the bible say something about respecting your leaders and praying for them?

Obama is my president, no doubt. But that does not mean I cannot comment on his words, associations and claims.

He and his administration are starting to be a gaffe a day at least. I will post anything that suits my fancy regarding 0bama. Some of us have seen through his facade.

If Obama's critics continue to take every word he says literally they are going to give themselves an ulcer within six months. Lighten up.

Obama is my president, no doubt. But that does not mean I cannot comment on his words, associations and claims. Of course you can - it's important to hold leaders accountable for their actions and words, just not for stuff they haven't done. The fear mongering I'm talking about it stuff like this ... quote:
The problem isn't this one freudian slip but all of the freudian slips. How many does it take to see a pattern? Really? Do you really believe that Obama thinks he will be king and rule over Americans as subjects or are you just fear-mongering about someone you don't like? quote:
If I believed in gambling, I'd say anybody want to take bets on when the giant posters of himself will go up? (You know, like the ones he had at several of his campaign headquarters.) Yes ... imagine a election candidate promoting himself using pictures - unheard of! Clearly he is seeing himself up to be the next Idi Amin. quote:
I guess we need to practice "All Hail King 0bama" quote:
The Democrat and Oboma Civilian Thought Police are making lists. quote:
Yep, and we will be sent to the reeducation camps I mean required community service. It's blatant classic fear-mongering. It's subtle because people can always say that they are joking, but the implication is clear.
