So, something got me curious about this. :)
Do you go out alone-- to movies, breakfast/lunch/dinner in a restaurant, etc.?
And if you do, are you comfortable or uncomfortable doing this?
Elaborate if you wish.

If I have to.... I will and it depends on the location. Certain destinations we fly to, I go out by myself and always carry a book and my ipod for when I go to a coffee shop for a hot chocolate or something to eat. Some places I don't feel comfortable going out by myself. I'm not keen on entering restaurants, pubs by myself... even when I'm meeting someone there. I feel like everyone is looking at me when I enter though I realise it might be just a few heads turning to see who comes in.

I go out alone sometimes. Likely, I've seen more movies alone than with friends.

I guess as we get older, we become more comfortable with going out on our own. It's better than sitting at home, but it's always more fun to go places with friends.

I will go see a movie alone, but only if it's something I really want to see. And I will eat lunch or dinner out by myself occasionally, but it's a matter of going somewhere straight from work and for the sake of convenience. (In other words, I'm hungrier than what I have at home or I don't feel like dealing with it.)

Yes, I go out alone a lot. But, if I go to a restaurant, it is usually to something that other people who are alone also go to (like a place with wifi for the laptop or something like that). If I go to a movie alone, it is usually to the matinee - I don't go at night (it feels more alone then). But I do other things alone regularly. I agree with G-N-M - as I've gotten older, I definitely feel a lot more comfortable with being alone. In fact, I need to remember to invite people to places that I go now because I'm so used to it. I don't think that is a good thing, but it is what it is.

I've gone to the movies alone a few times. The one draw back to going alone is when you miss an important part because you had to go to the ladies room, there's no one there to ask.
I don't think I've ever gone to dinner alone, but I frequent cafes alone many times. In fact, I like going alone to a cafe, and doing some reading. That's one of my escape. I almost equate this to running--something I really enjoy doing, but I have to do it alone.
The older I get, the less uncomfortable I am being alone. And I'm becoming more comfortable approaching people and making small talks...esp in bookstores.

I'm different than most when it comes to this because I actually enjoy going out alone. I'll go see a movie alone, I go to Starbucks alone, I often go to breakfast alone. Where I draw the line is dinner. Though I consider myself very secure in my own skin so to speak I would find it kind of creepy to go out to a nice restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night alone. When I'm not on a strict diet my most favorite guilty pleasure is enjoying a good meal out on the town. Since it's in my DNA to visit a good steakhouse, seafood, Mexican, or Italian eatery at least a couple of times per month I'll usually invite a platonic lady friend that I haven't caught up with for awhile.
If I wasn't scheduled to serve in 3rd grade ministry at church tonight I would have driven down to Tuscon alone to go the Newsboys concert.

I used to only go out with other people. But as I've gotten older, I've become OK with going out by myself. Once everyone around me started getting married it became harder to do things with groups of friends. So now if I want to watch a movie or eat somewhere I'll go without a second thought. So yeah, I'm very comfortable with it by now.

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems like friends (married or otherwise) only have time to get together when they need something or have their crisis, so I just plan things on my own.

Me too, But I usually don't mind, too much.
I have only come across couple of places I would not go alone. (Even started a thread about it awhile back) Of course, everything is more fun with someone else. But I am not going to sit around at home, waiting for that eventual someone to appear.

I have done things alone. I've been to the movies alone before too. It was a matinee. I don't remember what it was but I remember crying a lot. Dinner alone equals me calling in for take-out.
The last time I ate at a restaurant alone was while I was still in WV. I was so very alone that I sat there crying and couldn't make myself stop. The little waiter guy came over and said "Its okay honey, no matter what it is it'll be okay". It cracked me up the way he said and made me miss home even more. I think thats the day I decided to move back home.

I'd really love going out by myself, because I WANT to. But it's like I feel there's a stigma about it that I don't like. Sometimes I have more than enough work that I need to get done, so I won't want to take someone with me and sit somewhere to eat (alone so I can actually work). But alas, no. I end up calling someone and meeting there....then getting nothing done!

Oh PH, that happens to you too? I always seem to drink too much soda and have to go to men's room instead!

There are many things I don't go do by myself but it's not so much because I'm insecure about it. It's more that many things I consider more of a social event and it's the being with people part that I want. Like going out to eat...it's really not my favorite thing to do. If I do, it's because I'm wanting to enjoy someone's company.
I have gone to the movies alone before but I much more prefer finding a good movie on DVD and curling up on my couch with all the lights out and watching from the comfort of my own home.
I do enjoy going to the water front or park alone.

Yep, sometimes that's just how it works out, and as Hoosier states it plain, sometimes company is hard to come by. And sometimes it takes a good 7 or 8 regrets before you can break through someone's ice. It's usually not like that when others invite you, but if you want to be the 'pack leader', somehow people can be strangely all previously committed... or ignoring the invitation on their answering machine. I like to always take that personally, and then wait a good long spell before trying that again. Hopes can be a delicate thing.

This is how I feel, too. But I don't mind going out alone if it's something I want to do.
John...at least I sometimes have my mom I can "go out" with...but she is so busy raising the third generation right now, and so tired (she's in her late 70's) that last night I asked her to a play...and her answer was "whatever".
geez.
I'm trying not to let this get to me (the enemy immediately piped up and whispered "see? not even your own mother gets excited about being with you...nobody gets excited about being with you. No one ever will. You are not exciting to be with...in fact, no one wants to be with you because you're ugly and never any fun, never any good for anyone...yadda yadda--I'm still trying to shut him up.)
I may go by myself, but if I do several people will be inconvenienced (three of my children, for instance). Two of them will have to wait until the third is through teaching dance classes to get home after a long day.
Oh, but I have no fear! My mother tells me that in a few years when all my children are gone, I'll be free to go and do whatever I want!

If it is a casual resturant I may bring a book and read. If I am not in a hurry I like to go eat at the airport. Lots of people to watch, and lots of people alone, so you never feel out of place. (If you travel alot this may not be appealing however. 
)
I go out to eat by myself and dont think too much about it. I mostly go at a slow time so there is not a lot of people there. But just the same I am by myself and sometime I tell them when they ask how many it just me no one loves me enough to be seen with me. And then I laugh. But if we are in Christ and He is in us we are not alone. I can be more open to those around me if I am alone.
