Hi Bill, I only questioned it because he recorded it before he became a Christian and it was reported that the person who wrote it was anti Government, Anti American.

"Eve of Destruction" - Barry McGuire This is a Christian song? Mentioning Charlie Peacock, I like "In The Light" too. Interesting point. I guess it depends on the context in which the song is presented. I have known & performed with Barry for a number of years, and he still sings "Eve of Destruction" in concert (although he has added a new closing verse that speaks directly about the hope we have in Christ). Under those conditions, as part of his testimony and his passion for social justice, I believe the song is unmistakably "Christian." YMMV. Oh, and my "all time best" nominees include: "Love Song" - Third Day "Thankful" - Caedmon's Call "Meant To Live" - Switchfoot "Dare You To Move" - Switchfoot Mike

Keith Green: Your Love Broke Through and/or The Prodigal Son Suite. I really like Our Great God by Fernando Ortega and Mac Powell, but only the version in which they're both singing. However, if we're really doing an all-time list: Hallelujah, What a Savior Amazing Grace Rejoice, the Lord is King Holy, Holy, Holy Just as I am My Jesus, I Love Thee A Mighty Fortress is our God Crown Him with Many Crowns And too many others to mention.

Here's what I think are the BEST songs of all time. #1 LEAD ME ON - Amy Grant The song speaks for itself. The album was one of the first Christian albums to be recognized by the mainstream media. Amy put her heart into this record and it MORE than deserved the Grammy for best Pop/Contemporary, which it won, of course. She's a lyrical Beethoven. #2 GOD SO LOVED - Jaci Velasquez This song is also worthy of recognition. It was written by Chris Eaton. This one also speaks for itself. #3 THAT'S WHAT LOVE IS FOR - Amy Grant You want to know what made Amy Grant so successful in CCM? She took risks that nobody else wanted to take before CCM had successful crossover with Switchfoot and all the bands that are crossover successes. She reached out. Yes, she had her problems, but she is a true woman of faith. Everybody admires FAITH. This song talks about how God can heal our deepest wounds if we ask Him to rescue us. #4 THE WORD - Sara Groves This song talks about how we truly have only one thing to stand on-The Word of God, which is God Himself. #5 EL SHADDAI - Amy Grant Speaks for itself. Beautiful song.

El Shaddai is actually a Michael Card song, but I like Amy Grant's version better too.

After a fair amount of debate, came up with these 10 (not in order): How Great Thou Art – traditional hymn Despite the archaic language here and there absolutely beautiful. And the swelling chorus "Then sings my soul..." is undeniable. Amazing Grace- traditional hymn The one Christian song (other than "Jesus Loves Me") that probably 95% of all Americans, non-Christians included, know. If I Stand - Rich Mullins One of the best, most concise songs about praising the Lord in all circumstances I know. Best of all, it acknowledges that life is often tough without apology for it. Easter Song - 2nd Chapter of Acts The melody practically shudders with excitement. And why shouldn't it? What makes Christianity what it is is nothing more or less than Christ's resurrection. It's another hollow religion without it. I Want to be A Clone – Steve Taylor One of the biggest mistakes Christians often make is that following Christ is about a "set of rules" instead of a relationship. I miss there being someone like Steve Taylor to call the Church out on its foibles. I Wish We'd All Been Ready- Larry Norman This became the anthem of the Jesus movement and still is devastating today. Even if you don't agree with pre-trib sensibilities, we should all take the song's implicit warning seriously and pray all the harder for our family, friends, neighbors and anyone we know who DOESN'T know Christ. Asleep in the Light- Keith Green Another indictment of the Church that, sadly, still rings true. "Jesus came to your door/ You left him out in the street..." The Champion- Carman Only those who are FAR too "cool" for their own good can resist the wallop of emotion that hits in the "countdown" portion of this song. Praise the Lord - The Imperials Just a simple assertion that when God's all you have, He's all that you need. Gorgeous harmonies are the icing. All Is God's Creation- David Meece Am I the only one who feels that CANDLE IN THE RAIN is by FAR Meece's best CD? Am I the only one who wishes he had worked with Gino Vannelli again? Meece sounded contemporary and soulful here with a lyric that stays with you. The wailing gospel singers make it hit even harder.

Great American Novel by Larry Norman. Maybe my favorite song of all time no matter what genre. Should be played every four years around election time until it finally sinks in. If I stand by Rich Mullins. So simple. So Honest. So powerful. Do You Feel Their Pain? by Steve Camp. Go ahead and try to judge someone after listening to this song. I dare you. I'll Go There With You by Steven Curtis Chapman. I have never heard another song that so perfectly spoke of the love of a man for a woman, and his devotion to God that he will share with her.

I am first a 65 year old retiree, who studied music for a large part of my life. I had my piano and organ skills taken away by a brain injury. I now praise God by arranging and recording music on my synths (1 Korg and 2 Casio) and computer. I recently sang Oh Holy Night at my home church after much coaxing from my wife, friends and God. I had not sung a solo since my brain surgery some 10 years ago. It went well and I'm sure I was singing to God. I believe he smiled a bit. The album I have on the car player is The Adelanto symphony Orchestra Celebrates The Birth of Christ. My wife and I are the Adelanto Symphony Orchestra. We arrange and record in Midi and then take the output to the computer and burn the CD. Jim
