Billy Graham started his public ministry in LA, CA, when I was an infant, and went from there to being a public figure, even backed by Willam Hearst and many other public figures, to being a widely accepted evangelist who preached all over the world, even in areas where Christianity was unacceptable, even behind the Iron Curtain. He is both loved and despised, as public figures are. His main, nearly only, message was salvation. He may have been the instigator of "Every head bowed, every eye closed" -- at least, he popularized it. His radio program was Hour of Decision. He held "evangelistic crusades," crusades being a word that should not have been used, but it was. Billy can be forgiven for not thinking this one through. Billy Graham is and has been a compassionate man who has been open and honest, and who demonstrated integrity far better than all too many evangelists, remaining openly faithful to his wife, Ruth until her recent death.

If I live to be 90 years old I hope not meeting with someone on such and such a day because I am sick is the worst criticism they can dish up about me. Billy Graham owes no man, including Obama, none of his time. If he is sick I am quite sure the God he has been faithful to these past 90 years is going to know and understand that a lot better than anyone else will. My mother was right- some people will find ANYTHING to criticize a good man for. sheesh

ORIGINAL: Zack_NorcalRiders never heard of this dude but his name reminded me of graham crackers which i love . Are you pulling our legs? I take it from your name that you are from the United States. If so, I can't see how, unless you're 10 that you've never heard of Billy Graham. Even the hardest of sinners has probably got ticked off when he's on instead your fav. sitcom!!!

My mother was right- some people will find ANYTHING to criticize a good man for. sheesh Hi, I can recall listening to the Hour of Decision as a youngster and asking Jesus in to my life nearly every broadcast's conclusion, and will never forget, seeing Paul Harvey do the conclusion to one of the TV Chicago revivals in 1962, in fact, think Paul became a believer through the ministry of Billy Graham. I liked his writing style in the Decision Magazine, and always liked to hear him interviewed by the major talk show folk in the 60s and 70s. I don't agree with him entirely on having folks come forward for salvation, but that pales in the legacy he has established and as another poster indicated, the integrity he exemplifies. He is truly blessed to have 90 years of life and acknowledged that the other day on the news. (Drussell52)

I hate to use the word legend...but if ever there was a legend in my lifetime it would have to be Rev. Billy Graham that I would name first. I have never heard of any other public figure having the level of integrity this man has had...even at his wife's funeral he was amazingly strong.

No, I think Legend is fully appropriate. Through all of the ministry scandals that have embroiled the Christian community, the ministry of Billy Graham has been the emblem of honesty and integrity, for 7 decades or more.
