I also just wanted to let every one know that it really isn't anything new.
Typical Republican, rightwing answer....I wanna do it my way with no accountability to anyone but God. Wrap in in religion so no one can disagree with you without somehow being out of God's will.
It's just plain sad.

There's a huge difference between gaining credits toward graduation and having community service be a requirement to graduate.
But pointing out that difference is horse manure to some here.

There is a difference between serving from the heart voluntarily and compulsory service. When I first started the thread there was absolutely zero mention of any kind of benefit in return.

That was it! Dang with 0's misunderstanding of the Constitution all his former students may need to ask for a reimbursement and for some remediation.
Amendment XIII
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Maybe if he and his supporters didn't want him to be in that situation, Obama should not have run for president, and his supporters shouldn't have tried so hard to get him elected.
Politicians and presidents are not suppose to please everyone. They are suppose to do what is best for everyone.

Yes but, kids are in school to learn. They are learning civics. i forgot what we called that . but we got extra credit for it. Kids are learning to serve others.

And I can understand that. It would have made more sense to take the site down for 24-48 hours while everyone was getting what they were sure they wanted on that site, the way they wanted it worded.
All I know is my son did his community service and he was no worse off for it. I have no problem with mandatory community service for high schoolers, it gets them out of the comfort zone in a good way and often times opens up their hearts to helping others. Worth it. Definitely worth it.

If one is involved in a working Church then one will not need the government to mandate community service to one's children. I don't need the government telling me how to raise my children.
