I don't proselytize at work for it is not allowed by management. I do not wear shirts with Christian messages. I do know one Christian woman who sits at her desk and reads from the Bible during lunch break. The ridicule of other peoples beliefs is also forbidden at work. The reference to comparing the Pope to Nazi's is enough to get one terminated where i work. Prejudice is a big no no. If at work somebody said something like that in my hearing, i would be in their face. As for the lady who sits and reads her Bible it let me know she is Christian and i talk to her whenever i can. We have had some great conversations. She is a great lady. She does not give a rip about what others think of her faith. Many unbelievers have approached her with questions but they are respectful. Her competency and her manner demands no less. She is a class act. As for me am still rough around the edges.

Once a man was up on a ladder and cussing loudly. I said to him...''are u cussing or are u praying?'' He laughed but think he got the message. Shrewd as serpents, harmless as doves. I do carry my bible in my book bag. If ever a discussion comes up about what someone thinks the bible says i will take it out and challenge them to show it to me. Once a guy tried to validate fornication by saying it is better to spill seed in the belly of a woman than on the ground.(Onan, Gen.38:8-10) They always get that wrong. Unbelievers are not typically well versed in scripture. ''Are u a student of scripture?'' No. ''When was the last time u read from the Bible?'' i don't remember. ''I thought so, perhaps u should stick to what u know''...walk away. These things do not happen often.

Father Richard John Neuhaus..''Political corruption has been around ever since that unfortunate afternoon in the garden.''
Reporter (mulling it over) "What garden is that?''

Hmm, looks like you have to do a little more searching and ask yourself if your ok feeling the way you do when such instances arise.

I'm fine with the way i feel. Thank you very much. The reference to the Pope being compared to Nazi is an insult to the way i was raised and to the faith of my mother and family. I have no problem as a Christian with confronting hate speech, and/or distortions of my faith at the work place. Such speech is not tolerated by my employer and some have to be reminded of this.

Noone will take any Christian seriously if any of the following are present:

- Laziness
- Unhelpful
- Procrastination
- Inconsiderate
- Can't get to work on time
- Don't own up to mistakes or pass off mistakes as someone elses
- Gossip, etc - I'm sure anyone can think of many more to add to this list...... I know this is so because someone at work comments on another Christian who can't get themselves to work on time and who passes off their mistakes as someone else's rather than owning up to their mistakes and being 'honest'.

On a personal note, the Lord convicted me of listening to gossip not so long since and I had to say "no" to this person who kept making a bee line for me to tell me the latest and ask what I though. The other person was offended for a time but they got over it and I know it broke the barrier for my testimony to be more consistent with this same person.

Furthermore, the Lord gave me more openings to speak about my faith since this time also. It was hard to say "no" to listening to gossip because I did not want to offend but I was offending my Lord more by not turning my back on such and kidding myself that it was doing no harm listening to gossip so long as I didn't pass comment. All the time I felt like a hypocrit and was unhappy that I was even taking part by listening.

The Lord knows best.

at my first review I told the gm and pm that my boss was a Jewish carpenter who lived about 2000 years ago, I call Him savior and that nothing and no one would ever come ahead of Him.

so YES, I talk about the things I love while I am at work, and one of them is Jesus and my faith in Him.

lol.........love it

Go for it

I don't work outside the house anymore but I have been blessed to see a number of souls that I used to work with come to the Lord. I was shocked to find out about several of them. I did not find out until after I left the workplace and would run into them at the store or elsewhere.

I will have to think about what I did or did not do I know I planted lots of seeds.

Oftentimes these things are hidden from our eyes and seeds are falling on precious hearts without us being aware of it. I love how the Holy Spirit works

Hi Ruby

That is such a blessing you desire to share more about the Lord at your workplace! I know with me, at first, it was really hard because I used to worry alot about what people thought about me. It certainly was not because I was ashamed of the Lord.

Here are some things that the Lord has used to help me with. These are only suggestions...but, I believe, they might help you, if put into practice.

First of all, ask the Lord to put on your heart people who He wants you to pray for. He knows who is going to come to the Lord from your workplace and be alert to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as to who to begin to pray for their salvation.

Secondly, the saying "People don't care how much you know, until they know you care" really is true. We need to be Jesus to people before we even open our mouth about Him.

With the above said, be alert to how God may be trying to get someone's attention such as a death in a family, prolonged illness, or something like that. And when that happens, be there for them! Love on them through their crisis. Cards, offers to help, being at their loved ones funerals-cooking meals for them, etc. shows the love of Christ to them.

Just taking an active interest in them and their lives and struggles will go a long way. Be kind! Listen to them. Ask questions if they share a struggle. Saying something like, "Do you mind if I pray for you?" - shows you care, is almost always accepted and appreciated by them and opens the door for further discussion of church/spiritual matters in the future.

Simple things like expressing concern for someone in the ordinary stresses of life. For example, the other day I noticed someone appeared very weary, (sighing, face looked tired, etc). I just shared something very simple, but caring like, "gosh, are you tired? it seems as if you might be tired". Something like that shows you care....

As one does these types of things, it is just amazing how God begins to open the door to begin to share. It just becomes like, natural. It takes the stress off of us because we are co-workers with Christ.

At this point through the Holy Spirit, your prayers and your caring, watch for any mention of anything they might say like they were brought up in church, or something like that. Then you can start asking questions and digging a little deeper.

Be content to go slow. The Holy Spirit is patient with souls and you don't want to push people or they will resist. Just keep caring, loving, showing an interest, praying and you will be amazed at how God just takes over. And, who knows, maybe they might just be open to hear about Christ sooner rather than later

Hooraaaaaaay!!! Bless your hear mak! What a bold and courageous witness to your love and passion to the Lord. If we had this boldness, we would have won so many souls.

Ruby~ I empathize with what you feel. When I was younger, I used to feel self-conscious if others knew that I went to church. In fact, I used to hide when I wanted to go to church and the reason for this was because we were surrounded by unhealthy pharisee-type Christians who were Very self-righteous and downright condescending and that made me hate Christians.

Cherished~ gave you the tips I usually use when I want to witness/evangelize about our Precious Lord almost every where I go: Grocery, drugstore, workplace, neigbourhood and even if you don't leave home, God would still send someone even via phone calls or internet esp. with this age of hi-tech. He is indeed omnipotent!!!

At work God would surround you with folks who are open to the message of Him, usually those who are humble and modest and He even might have you have an arrogant rude manager so that you can show a Christlike character to him or her. I know this can be embarrassing, but it will sharpen your character and make you more Christlike and this is how we grow and become like HIM!

My last 2 cents are....just keep silent wherever you go and Merely your presence somewhere would be the Best Sermon!

Light...this is not a true statement...
I can hold my own with believers in any scripture discussion...although I am coming at it from an opposing point of view.

As far as workplace witnessing...I firmly believe that it is NOT something that should be done. I work somewhere where there are a lot of Christians...they leave bible verses on the bulletin boards, on the cube partitions, bible verses in their email signatures, "I (heart) Jesus" badge lanyards...I find most, if not all of it quite offensive. Fortunately, it was taken to the proper place and is now no longer permitted...
IF I were to be interested in someone's beliefs, I would find an appropriate time and place to talk to them. I really don't want to see it everywhere I go, when the truth is, we're supposed to be designing and building ships...
My beliefs (or lack thereof), my lifestyle, etc. is nobody's business in the workplace. We're there for one thing only...to do the work we are paid to do...that's it...leave the rest at the door...pick it back up when you're no longer getting paid to do what your employer expects you to be doing. Anything else is cheating your employer out of his expectation that you are there to work on his business for the 8 or more hours you are there. And, last I remember reading, that is a sin....

Cloak A female high-five to you I had a wonderful example of this at the grocery store just yesterday.

About 6 weeks ago, in the cat isle, (where I am always at) in the grocery store, I noticed a lady whose haircut I really liked. So I made a comment about buying cat food and then complimented her haircut and asked where she got it done. We talked for a few minutes and then that was that.

Well, the next time I went to the store, she was there again. We said hi and a few comments and off we went. And then the next time I went to the store she was there . We started giggling about it, talked and off she went. Ditto, the next time I went. Now mind you, I don't go to the store but once every two weeks or so.

Finally yesterday I went to the store and there she was again We laughed and she told me she had told me she had told someone else about me. I have never had this happen with anyone, all of my life!

FINALLY the Lord got it through my thick skull that He wants me to start praying for this woman on a routine basis and I believe from the way He worked with those encounters, not giving up until I "got it" that she will get saved

So, Ruby, God is very, very patient with us, takes us where we are at and works gently with us in our co-labors with Him

Now this muslim guy in my room is trying to get people together for a multi faith forum. I'm taking an interest in what he's doing because I have to write his annual report this month. I'm sure it'll only be matter of time til he directly asks me to join the forum and I'll have to explain 'no I don't need a forum to say that I don't care what people of other faiths think'.

I think I'm so weak in my walk I wouldn't be a good person for any curious unbeliever to talk to.

Funny, you know Cherished when I was reading your last post, I felt as if I wrote it. Your personality looks like mine. Although I am reserved, I can be quite friendly and complimentary with strangers and strike up a conversation with them.

Way to go, I am so proud of your zealous ardent faith!

It's always been easy for me, either once they find out what university I went to (an American Baptist one) or when they discover what my degree is in (Biblical Studies), haha. That usually brings out discussion my faith. :-)

The bible is pretty clear, on this

10:32-33

32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Ooh, I'm a bad christian girl. This guy walked into my office today and I know I've met him before at the Bible studies that go on on Tues lunch times. Instead of being grateful that God has placed me in a country and with an employer where Bible study at lunch time is ok, I hoped that the guy wouldn't recognise me. But he did. He said 'I know you from the Christian Union'. I played dumb and someone else in the room distracted him with another conversation.

I was embarassed for my colleagues to know I have been to bible study at work. I don't go that often because I just usually forget. Some of my colleagues know I go to church and everything, but these are only the ones I trust and would have lunch with. All the others (and there's a lot of them cos I work for the government) don't need to know about me. It's just my private life. Last time I was really open was a couple of years ago and I had the misfortune to have this really outspoken woman in front of me who would rant about 'The Church' and the Pope used to be a Nazi or something. I just don't want some big debate. I don't really care what other people believe (I'm no evangelist), I can only share with someone if I'm sure of getting mutual respect.
