Random -> RE: Another stimulus package? (10/14/2008 11:19:34 AM)

For MOST (not all) the 10% bracket was widened so that people with incomes under the threshhold got a tax break of 5% on a chunk of their income (the top of the 15% bracket stayed the same, so this really just turned some income into 10% tax instead of 15% tax). This is what I meant when I said it lowered the tax rate. Then, these people got a check for that difference instead of having to wait until next year. For others, like you and me, our incomes were too high, so we did not qualify for the tax reduction, and didn't get a check. For still others, there was some provision to pay them stimulus even though they paid no taxes. That is what you are upset about, and rightly so. Unfortunately I don't remember the details of how that worked. But it wasn't relevant to Harvie's question, so I ignored it. Or, in less words, the thing I was responding to Harvie about has nothing to do with the thing you are upset about. [8D]
