Interesting question..... It's definitely confusing but I'd say that since they share the lower half of their body they either shouldn't marry or should only marry one man. At least if they only marry one man then it's polygamy which is debatable as to whether it's wrong or not. The consumation of marriage is what would be most wrong IMO. I don't want to get TOS on this so I'll just leave it at that.

I think in a case like this, the government ought to make an exception for them and allow one man to marry both of them.

The thing is that even if it were legal (isn't polygamy still legal in Utah) it wouldn't necessarily be morally ok. Being physically intimate as husband and wife wouldn't be one man and one woman it would be more like one man and two women, kwim?

It's illegal in all of the U.S. Those polygamists aren't legally married.

I guess I don't see what's wrong with polygamy if it's legal and if all parties are happy.

ETA: A polygamist marriage is probably much more complicated than a monogamous one, but with enough effort and faith with all the people involved, it could work.

I think there might be a polygamy one stop thread, so i'm gonna go look for it and branch off this topic if any of ya'll are interested in talking about polygamy in the case of these twins.

I guess I'm thinking, even if they marry one man... they still have two minds, but one body at some point. What happens if one twin and the husband want to do something, but the other twin doesn't? If twin one doesn't want to do something with her body, but twin two does...and they have the same body... it seems like it'd be a problem in that area.

Ok, now I don't know about y'all but I have 4 daughters and none of them like each others boyfriends or husband enough to even think about having to spend the rest of their lives with them.

Finding one man that both girls like is gonna be hard.

OK, couldn't find the polygamy one stop thread, and it's not on the list Fritz posted. So, I guess that topic is fair game.

Tamara, I think having a marriage like that would definetely be difficult, but doable. The girls will have been attached for at least 18 years, I'm sure they probably know how to get along well.

I personally think a pair of conjoined twins, If they marry should still be married to two different people. If you look at history, it does seem to show that a lot of the conjoined twins that did marry, married a pair of siblings. Perhaps that helps.

With Violet and Daisy Hilton, though, one married, and one did not. That had to be tough. Although the one that was married did eventually divorce.

What would really be ideal for Brittany and Abby is if they could find a pair of male conjoined twins, but I don't know if there is a male pair their age that is living.

I also think it would be tough for one twin to be married and one not to be. One has a male companion, one doesn't and yet has to be dragged along on outings and things. So much better if they both marry at the same time if they do marry...

Oy, I'm starting to see where Christina is coming from. Now, my head hurts..even though it was my topic. But I really have pondered this issue for years..so wanted some insight.

Well, if it turns out to be a bad marriage, the other twin might think, "Thank heavens I'm not married to that guy..."

Yeah, but I'm not talking about everyday things. If they marry two different men, wouldn't it be like one twin dragging the other twin along to have intercourse with the other's husband? What if she doesn't want to...or doesn't like who the other married? They share the same parts at a point, although they're two different people, and that's where I see an issue. I want to do this, but this is her body too... Everyday things are probably easier to deal with, but things like this seem odd to work around. I'm sure there's some solution, but I can't see what that would be...unless they agree on absolutely everything in these matters and maybe marry the same man for the both of them.

Exactly. Because they are joined from the waist down I think that consumating marriage should be out of the question (from a Christian standpoint at least). I don't know..... Does scripture address stuff like this?

Plus if they marry two men each husband will be sharing his wife with the other man (intimately). That just doesn't seem right.

Could be problematic.

Of course, the advantage would be that your sibling couldn't secretly have an affair with your spouse - but then again...

I'm so confused.

I think the only way marriage would really be doable for them is if a man took them both as wives (if it were legal of course). No cheating, no worrying about another husband getting jealous of the first husband since he is also technically having sex with the other guy's wife, no getting dragged around on dates. The only challenge they would have in that marriage is the same type that polygamist marriages have, which in most interviews those wives all seem to be happy about it.

Well, while I was being toungue-in-cheek, I had a serious point; the problem isn't the girl's body or bodies, as the case may be - the problem is human nature, and that is true for everyone, and I don't think the opportunity for them to sin in marriage (or out of it) is any greater or lesser than anyone else.

Actually, in most polygamist marriages, there is only one woman present during any sexual encounter. In a marriage regarding the OP, both women would be present in every sexual encounter.

That certainly isn't a typical challenge found in most polygamist marriages.

Yeah, that's how I hear it from polygamists in interviews. The wives are only there one at a time (for that).

I imagine it's not a typical challenge in any marriage!

I think the argument has been settled if they are one or two. The school system treats them has two different individuals and the state did when they required each girl to get her own driver's license (they had to take the test twice - even though they have to share the details of driving).

Except their math teacher lets them turn in one paper. Man, that's one place I think the one twin who doesn't like math has the advantage(one likes it, one doesn't). I used to hate math.

I am glad God is a relational God and not an abstract one.

This is a situation where (if you really were seeking to please HIM) much time would have to be spent in prayer over the whole intimacy issue. We throw our abstractions out, but what does HE say? This is not covered in any biblical text except Leviticus 18.18, so each situation may be different. (relational not abstract)

1 Pray.
2 Pray some more.
3 Then pray again.
4 go to 1

You can make up your own mind as to the applicability of the verse.

Lev 18:18 And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive.

My take would be it would seem to be better for each to marry seperately. The privacy issue is more cultural than biblical.
