I have been in this position at times. I actually had to consult the most Godly man I know ( my grandpa). He explained it this way. There are times when we will feel very far away from God (the valley) and there will be times when we will feel very close to God (the mountain tops). When we are in the valley we will be learning and growing as Christians. When we are on the mountain tops we are being used to teach others and take a much need rest. So now I pray for the valleys and rest on the mountain tops.

I wondered this recently. I'd been growing and learning intensely for a period of time--spanning two years. (I didn't choose this, but the Holy Spirit prompted me.) I was in awe of this inner change come over me. God got my attention and drew me close. Never before had I felt such an urge to study the Word, never before had I felt a deep need to give, never before did I know about the act of obedience, which thus showed me the need to be rejoin the body of Christ in fellowship.

Well, in recent months, after spending two years reading scripture and rereading and pondering, and so on, I started to feel that I wasn't receiving new information.

I recall sitting here wondering about it pensively, though only for a moment, because as soon as I expressed the question in my mind, a clear thought came to me. That is, I felt that I'd received whatever lessons God wanted to reveal to me for the time being, and that for now I am supposed to go and act. I am to apply what I've learned and to share with people in my life and be a vessel of service.

I still do pray and, like you, I recently got an urge to pray on my knees. I don't do it every time, but I feel like I finally understand how my great grandmother may have felt when she humbled herself on her knees before the Lord.

I do know the bible says to humble ourselves before the Lord and he will lift us up. Not sure how that fits here, but it is something I think of often ever since I read it in James (and have seen it elsewhere).

Another thought: we can listen for God speaking to us through people, through situations, through certain scriptural messages that replay in our daily life, through the sermons our ministers prepare after prayer.

Interested in what others say.

God is our hope in good times and bad times. In trials and tribulation God is there, we just need to believe that in our hearts and souls. We need to confess it and understand that.

Then we can kick up our heels and yell GLORY TO GOD! :)

Several others have spoken of this and I think it important enough to respond to as well.

God created a world with seasons and these seasons are a part of our life with Him as well. He frequently uses the physical world to show us truths in the spiritual realm as well. And the seasons do that.

So we have our four seasons in our walk with the Lord. Springtime, summer, fall and winter and we repeat these experiences throughout our walk with Him.

There are times of new birth, tremendous growth, beauty and wonder. There are times of death, dying, failing, decline, and falling down. There are times when not much seems to be happening at all. Kind of like watching a field of corn grow---moment by moment our eyes don't see much taking place. But if you watch the corn from the time it is planted in the spring until harvest in the fall, great changes have taken place.

So part of the 'when you don't feel like it', a rather big part, is to just trust and believe that if you, like the kernel of corn, have fallen into the earth and died, growth is going to come, things are going to change and the darkness will turn to light eventually.

And what we do in the waiting time is to immerse ourselves in God's word. The book of James describes this process in this way. In humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. Humility is from the same root as humus, soil, or the ground (dirt) that you are planted in. So we stay in that low place and wait and believe and trust that the word, God's word, will accomplish His will in us.

Paul said it like this. And for this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received from us the word of God's message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. (IThess 2:13)

God's word holds power and it IS at work within. Many times we can't see it or feel it. But we humbly trust that God knows what He is doing. And when the time is right, we will burst forth from the season of drought or darkness and into His marvelous light.

So be encouraged, dear friends. God is at work and will accomplish ALL He has promised. Bless ya!
