What are some of your favorite characteristics of God? Something special about Him that you specifically love? I know, I know, He's wonderful - so many things we could write, but what is one thing in particular about Him that just gets you?

For instance - I love the multifactedness of God - how He can speak one thing and it mean something totally different to the hearers, yet still be totally relavent to them. I love how He can be father, mother, friend, lover, brother, comforter, exhorter, teacher, king, savior, shepherd, etc all at the same time and still run the universe.

I love His faithfulness. No matter how many times we mess up, He still loves us, still helps us, and still keeps His promises.

The fact that He laid down His life for me always moves me. To hear that a soldier falls on a grenade to save his buddies is incredibly profound; to grasp that the person making the sacrifice is God becomes simply staggering. Regardless of what you know / don't know / think you know about God, His self-sacrificing love via a humility that brings him into the mortal world has the power to cut through your preconceptions.

Isn't it amazing how He, knowing all we would be and do - not be and not do, would still willingly lay His life down for us? Wow what a King!

The way He brings people to Faith. For me it was a long series of "coincidences".

And regarding love...

1 Corinthians 13:7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Now, how can you beat that?

I am so totally with Mark on this one. Although I became a believer at 14, I had no idea He loved me until I was 22. No idea whatsoever. The knowledge of His love was so profound, so amazing, so shocking that I was stunned, floating off the ground for DAYS after realizing it!

You know what else about Him that just gets to me? His holiness. Everything God does flow out of His holiness. Even His love, so perfect - is as holy as His wrath. He IS holy. The anglels around the throne aren't crying, "Merciful, Merciful, Merciful" as great as His mercy is and so much more, they're crying, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY"

His love, His kindness, His generosity, His patience and His everlasting and ever-renewing mercy.

His love, of course...'For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.' John 3:16...To believe...to entrust oneself to His redeeming power.

'God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.' (Rom. 5:8)...'to him that worketh not, but believes on HIM WHO JUSTIFIES THE UNGODLY'. (Rom. 4:5b)...justify...to declare to be righteous, not just forgiven, but to be positively righteous - to have obeyed His holy law perfectly, and to regard the ungodly as righteous because He has imputed Christ's own righeousness to the ungodly who believes in His Son. It isn't that God makes us righteous. It is that He gives us Christ's own righteousness, in the same way that He imputed Adam's sin to all men ('For all have sinned [in Adam] and fall short of the glory of God.' [Rom. 3:23]) Now that is a God I can live with. [;)]

His presence in my life makes all the difference!

You ask 10 people this question and 9 would say grace over mercy. I'm the one that would say His mercy. Our not getting what we deserve over getting what we don't deserve.

But His grace is pretty swell too.
