How I wish I could find a Christian man who also can dance *sigh*......

Salsa dancing (includes salsa and merengue) can be lots of fun, especially if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend. However, I recommend swing (6 count east coast swing to start with followed by lindy hop classes) for young singles. It is a social dance, mostly danced by younger folks throughout the U.S. (college, 20's and 30's). You don't need a steady partner. Eventually many lindy hoppers crossover into West Coast Swing, a smoother (non-bouncy) variation of the dance that is more versatile to more varied types of popular music (many younger folks dance West Coast swing as well). Swing dancing is casual and laid back. I read in another thread you're interested in Tap dance. This easily crosses over into the swing realm. You might want to try taking a Charleston class (places that teach swing also teach this because it can be used within swing dancing).

I have never done ballroom. From what I have heard from others that have tried it, at least in my geographic area my local ballroom dance culture is not "social", but competitive instead. In other words, the ballroom "social" dances seem to require you bring your own partner. A lot of swing dancers are drawn to Argentine tango, because unlike other ballroom dances, Argentine tango is more improvisational (not rigid with lots of rules, etc.). However, because of the difficulty (and the "intimate" nature) of the dance, it is best to have your own partner for this one as well.

So start with swing (east coast and lindy) and work from there.... Living in the Boston area, you've got no excuses not to learn swing [:D]......Go for it!

Disclaimer [:D] (I am about your age), the reason I made a point of mentioning age of lindy hoppers is because often people have this idea that only the geriatric set is into dancing..... Yes, there are people much older than 40 still lindy hopping away, it's just that this particular dance attracts more younger people than other dances. It is high energy (good to get in shape and more fun than a gym LOL). And as a "lead" (man), you'll fit right in for a long, long, time).

Like NIKE, just do it [:D].

I may not be the best person to ask - but I think I would be intimidated by a guy who was a super dancer.

At the same time - I would love an awkward swaying dance to music from the car under the stars. :)

I love dancing! Especially latin dance! I'm not particularly good, in fact, I wouldn't even call myself that - but I have a lot of fun doing it, haha. In my single days, I probably said "no" to every guy to asked me to dance just because I was so shy and embarrassed of my skills, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have wanted to otherwise. Even though I often told them no, I still considered their offer sweet.

Yep, before I learn to walk I was dancing ...and my family is very artistic one way or another. It starts at home whe family is musical, exprssive and it all play out in family gatherings . It is o awesome how our families dinamics contribute and influence big time..I became very much eccletic as musical style goes and to naturaly dance when music plays is the way to go.

To know how to dance is necessary part of the social "norms", because music are playing all the time. Just imagine to go to birthdays, weddings sweet 15/16 and many celebrations and to be sitted there..particularly if a person is a man! [:D] Even women may dance with women..my Grandma and her sister did dance with each other since they were young girls..training and practicing their tangos and other dance styles until the party time came. Adults dances with children in the family also, even when one is to small they are carried by the adult. In this way all learn very young to jump to the music.

My Dad had many musical style int his collection and his sound was always up to date because he traveled abroad and brought the latest etc. My Mom played the piano and accordeon and than eletric keyboards, my uncles the accustic guitars, I enjoy percusion so my Dad. I remember very young be surrounded by Louis Amrstrong, Ella Fitzgerld, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, Amalia Rodrigues (fados), Tangos...and Nat King Cole..ah Nat king Cole playing was when Mom and Dad were all romantic..lol..dancing..and they always announcd out loud that "Fascination" were their music, when they feel in love and etc..just beautiful when they played Fascination and danced in our living room as we set in the sofa looking how they were into loving each other.

Than yes, to dance is to express and I am expressive..but I do preferto dance with men who know how to lead with confidence and are expressive also as to heart jump with the music as the ritmic playing around is irresistable, the only thing to do is to dance and keep dancing.

I am not a good dancer and never really have been. But I can keep a beat (I learned how to do it in high school). I can do a few little moves without embarassing myself in case of emergency. I stay away from line dances if at all possible - the patterns are difficult for me.

I think I'd like ballroom - waltz type dances - but they might be confusing to me. Last week I was uncharacteristically in the mood for a slow dance (it was a wierd feeling). I love watching people do hip hop dance, ballet, and jazz dancing - and when I am by myself, with the doors locked, windows closed, blinds shut, curtains drawn - I'll put on something with a good beat and I'll go for it! I know I probably look funny - and I do laugh at myself sometimes - but it is so much fun!

And yes, if a guy asked me to dance, I'd dance with him. Years ago, I was at a club and this guy asked me to dance. Everyone was standing around in a circle and this was when rap was just becoming popular - but before hip hop. Well, I thought that he just meant a regular dance. Ummm ... no. All of a sudden I was in the middle of the circle and everyone was waiting for me to do some fantastic new break-dancing like move. I stopped dead in my tracks, looked around, then sort of shuffled my little self out of the center and away from that guy in no time. I was soooo embarrassed! So, if I see a circle - then no - I'm not dancing with him (unless its Hebraic dancing), but anything else should be fine!

IMHO, A good male dancer will not lack for partners. They tend to be scarce in my circles.

I was never one for formal dances, but a few years ago I got the opportunity to do a crash course in ballroom dancing and totally enjoyed it. So, I will now admit that I like ballroom dancing and wouldn't mind taking some proper classes in it. I think guys should take some classes in it too, so that when they ask us to dance they will actually be able to lead instead of just shuffling around.[8|]

I have told my boy students, when they giggled over dancing for a school performance, that when they are old enough to date, learn to dance. Then they will get to hang out with all the coolest gals.

I very much enjoy dancing! I may not be very good at it, but I love doing it! And yes, if given

the chance, I would love to dance with a guy,(especially someone I find to be cute or charming)

even if he's not the best dancer! I just like to have fun, so as long as he is having fun and

enjoying himself then I am happy and will enjoy myself also.

I love dancing! I used to teach "disco" dancing at Arthur Murray back in the day.

My husband loves to dance, too. Unfortunately, the selection of dance clubs around here is nil, unless you want to deal with the whole girls/boys gone wild atmosphere.

I second that motion! I wouldn't want to go to that type of atmosphere, I personally love to just

dance to the radio in my own home, it is just as much fun!

I did dance with him but I thought it was odd to stand so close to someone, well, mostly, to stand so close to a man. Haha.

I do love dancing though. I just mostly stick to dancing with other women. [8D]

I believe it is important that men know how to lead in dancing as well. I remember when I took a trial ballroom lessons once, there was this one woman who most definitely was leading without giving me a chance at all.
