Sarah, I've made tater tot casserole before. It's tasty but not the healthiest meal you can imagine. But it's a fun once in a while treat.

We eat it about twice a month. Sideways is right that it's not the healthiest dish out there, but it does feed a lot.

Mine is:
1 lb browned hamburger, drained. (I do dice up some onion to taste while browning it.)
1 Can cream of cheddar cheese soup
1 Can cream of mushroom soup
1 Can of milk or water (I do half milk and half water)
1 Bag of tater tots (shredded, frozen potatoes are also good)

Preheat oven to 400.
Grease (spray) 9x13 casserole pan.
Mix soups and milk/water in a bowl.
Mix the hamburger and half of the soup mixture and spread evenly on the bottom of the casserole pan.
Spread tator tots evenly over the top.
Pour remaining half of the soup mixture over the top of the tater tots.
Bake for 45-60 minutes.

It's yummy topped with sour cream!

For a Mexican viariation, I like to add a can of drained corn and salsa (to taste) to the hamburger and then follow the rest of the directions.

To tie this into the topic......

I wonder how many viariations of this the Duggars like?

For some reason, it's a very simple yet crowd pleasing recipe. The kids like to put ketchup on it. I think it's such a crowd pleaser because it's got the four food groups: starch, fat, perservatives and artifical stuff.

I wonder if #18 will like it as much as Jim-Bob and the others like it?

I'm glad to read comments from others who like this show!

I watched the episode when they switch jurisdictions and have a question about that one. Maybe I did not hear it correctly but I thought Michelle said that they do 20 loads of laundry a week. Did anyone catch that?

Only three people live in my house and I do 6 to 8 loads a week. It seems like they would have much more, or maybe she didn't say 20.

We have 7 people in our house and I wash between 6 and 9, so 20 sounds about right, give or take, I'm sure.

I didn't see the show, but did they have big front loading washers? If they do, those hold a pretty big load, I think.

We have 3 in our house and wash around 4 loads per week, maybe 5 in the winter, not including bedding. But towels get reused, so that cuts down a lot.

We have seven in our house and I average two loads a day, but I take Sundays off from laundry. So, I usually wash 12 loads a week.

Aahh! The tater-tot casserole! this is funny:

I remember I had watched that first special on the Duggars on TLC waay back and they had mentioned the tater-tot casserole. Well I'm always looking for something new and interesting so I decided to try and make this. I looked up the recipe and made it.

Now you have to know we are from a Puerto Rican background and there's pretty much no such thing as casserole in our kitchens let alone a tater tot caserole

So anyways I made it for DH and needless to say a whole bag of tater tots was wasted and it was forever known as the tater tot casserole incident LOL! I thought it wasn't too bad but not exactly something I'd make again. Oh well. While I'm sure casseroles are an economical meal idea they never seem to fly at my house .

I think they have industrial size washers and dryers, so you would be able to do more in one load.

Laundry--I'm sure industrial size washers have something to do with it. But, we are 5 people, and I do 3-4 loads/week, not counting diapers. If it's not dirty, I don't wash it just because it was worn for a few hours. Jammies last a week barring any accidents. The boys get the same play outfits for 2-3 days, especially in the winter. Of course, undies get changed every day, lest anyone worry.

Now I am curious as to how many loads a week we do with 9 people in our house...

I thought I had posted this before, but I guess I hadn't...now I know why no one responded, lol .

Anyway, are some pictures from a blog of a personal friend of Josh's: http://arkansaswatch.blogspot.com/ the pics are a little dark..but at least you'll get an idea..be sure to scroll down. As far as I can tell, all sibs were included in the wedding! YAY!!!!!

Sorry no fun name for the link..there seemed to have been a technical difficulty that didn't let me link the usual way.

I love the Duggers. I don't agree with everything, but, I wish my family were more like them and not always in chaos. I admire their organization and their love for each other. There is something to be said for not letting them watch much t.v. and using the computer too long.

I think I can say all their names from memory now..when I can't go to sleep at night, I name them off.

Josh (married to Anna)
Jana
John-David
Jill
Jessa
Jinger
Joseph
Josiah
Joy-Anna
James
Jeremiah
Jedediah
Jason
Justin
Jackson
Johanna
Jennifer
J-baby girl

I think I got James through Justin out of order.

Now that Anna is around, I wonder if Joy-Anna will become just Joy.

I don't even try to get the boys' names all straight, but I can usually get most of the girls' names. (Kept forgetting Jill, though.) Josh and John-David are close in age, then the 4 older girls are close in age, but poor Joy-Anna is kinda stuck by herself in the middle of a pack of boys, eh? Now we have another mini-tribe of girls at the end. I have to admit, I am curious to see if she's gonna make it to 20.

How old is Michelle again?

Actually, I've heard Joy-Anna called simply Joy, which would make sense since Johannah is very close to Joy-Anna.

I just caught a couple of episodes the other night, the ones with the courtship/engagement. It was cute.

What I really liked was how Michelle and Jim Bob were honest about how they dated before each other and their experiences, and how that affects what they teach their children. I've heard parents before tell their children to act one way, but not explain how they've come to it (hiding their own experiences.)

I think so too..without checking, I think it's Jedediah, then Jeremiah...isn't it?

yeah that is definitely one thing I admire about them too...they are a very open family even though they are very conservative and quiet about things.
