Tamara, that is a tough situation and I remeber you talking about your nephew before, its sad and I know its hard for you and your family, I don't know really what you should do except continue to try and help him and pray about it. Birthday breakfast sounds interesting Trish, sorry you were unable to go Megan, I remeber pumpkin carving can be messy lol I haven't done that since I was a kid... I hope to get alot acomplished today with the house, since Saterday we have alot more time. Although it is raining :( so that makes things a little tough

It's a soup made from pumpkin. You're not the only person who's asked me for a recipe for it, so I'm going to have to get one and put it up in 'home and garden' for everybody. It's really simple. My favourite soup.

A big problem is that his mom (my sis) dismisses EVERYTHING and finds an excuse for my nephew. I understand divorce is rough and all, and they've been divorced for a while. But it's as if his having a rougher life means he can act and be however he wishes. You almost have to lose your mind trying to get him to get out a piece of paper and COPY spelling words... he has simple math, but he won't sit down to do it. He has a temper. He hates his brother and wishes he'd go away...he's even slapped his little brother because he was blocking the tv. (He wasn't even supposed to be watching tv because he had never gotten his homework.) I've heard him on the phone telling his dad how much he hates his little brother and how he wishes he was the only one. I mean, I'm wondering just what has to happen for my sister to realize that he needs some kind of assistance. I suggested therapy, but she says he doesn't need it because he's not crazy. Making excuses is just making him worse.... you can see over the years just how much he's deteriorated (in behavior and by the fact that he was never schooled), but it's like she doesn't care or think about what'll happen in the future. It's hard just sitting back letting him get worse when his own mom is kind of pushing for what he's doing. And you can't tell her anything.... because she'll get combative. I wonder if she even cares...and I wonder why it's like everyone else cares about his future more than she does.

I don't like pumpkin soup either. I haven't had a chance to put the pumpkin soup recipe up, but I will as soon as I can.

The following was sent to me via e-mail from my dad, who is a vet. I thought I'd share it with you ladies since so many of you have husbands or children serving. The Sack Lunches > I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned > seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to > read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought. > > > Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all > the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. > 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. > > > ' Chicago - to Great Lakes Base. We'll be there for two weeks for special > training, and then we're being deployed to Iraq ' > > > After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches > were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached > Chicago , and I quickly decided a lunch would help pa ss the time. > > > As I reached for my wa llet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned > to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. > Pr obably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to Chicago ' > > > His friend agreed. > > > I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to > the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. > 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed > tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or > chicken?' > > > 'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the > front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first > class. 'This is your thanks.' > > > After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for > the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you d id. I want to be part of > it. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It > will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a > sandwich. A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check Made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amo unt of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in This country who no longer understand it.

What is Pumpkin Soup? I don't know if I've ever posted in here, but I saw the "pumpkin soup" comment and I had to post. I made it one year for my family and they looked at me like I was a martian!!!! I liked it. Anyone notice how many of these "older" actresses faces are looking so ...... um ...... weird???? I know it's the facelifts and whatnot, but they look so weird to me.

Hi everybody. Deb, pumpkin soup is about one of the only soups I eat. Tomato soup gives me nightmares! (Literally, as a kid I used to dream martians would come to earth and turn me into tomato soup). Roberta, cool post. Yeah, I hear you on the actors and actresses who use botox etc. Some just look just plain awful! I think we should just age graciously.

I like Jicama and I think I've had mole, but can't remember when. I need to go to the Hispanic grocery store to buy some things for ds's party on Friday in Spanish class.

I wish I could try more things, but we don't have all these things available around here.... We have Arabic-type markets, but nothing Latino/Hispanic. :(

Nope, can't say as I have. I've got to be really careful. My body can't handle spices as well as it used to, which is a shame. Mind you, there's no many places around here that does that type of food.

Solo- I've tried a variety growing up because my Mexican neighbor loved to cook snacks for the neighborhood kids. However, I couldn't remember what they were, just that they were yummy! I have two job interviews today, and I may try to see if I can get a third one in. They are at K-Mart and Dollar Tree. I'm going to try to see if I can get one at Home Depot as well before I head off to see my therapist. In case I'm not around tomorrow...... Happy Birthday Kath!

Hi, ladies! We went to church this morning and then to a friend's house this afternoon for a Halloween party. It was a blast. I ate way too much and we're having people over to eat tomorrow. Yikes! I need to get off this computer and get to bed but I'm trying to upload a video to my blog. I hope it finishes soon. I'm sleepy. Good luck on the interviews, Roberta! Happy Birthday, Kath! Have a nice day, ladies.

Thanks Catherine. For some reason I couldn't get the links to post correctly last night. I noticed someone else said she was having the same issue. I haven't tried today. The link I gave isn't pretty, but it takes you right the start of the new thread.
