Oh, I have a family.

I said yes to something yesterday and now I regret it. At first I said no, and I said I wasn't going to this event anyway, and then somehow I ended up saying yes. I could call and say no still, as they still have time to find someone else.

Shouldn't they use someone who really wants to do it, instead of me, who is dreading it?

I've got a family, a day job and I'm already in two working bands.

Yeah, I'm picky, and I have enough going on that nobody questions it.

When's the last time you bought new cables?

Are you sure you don't have a speaker cable in there somewhere?

Cables are a few months old, Gepco XB20UB, from Lava Cable. Most patch cables are Gepco too, apart from two Proels.

I've sent the Diago back and ordeded a BBE Supa Charger.
The amp is quiet without the FX, even at high gain, so I feel reassured the amp itself is OK.

Yeah, certain things can be temperamental.

That's why I got rid of all that stuff and went back to straight tube amps, a couple of pedals and my echoplex.

Simplicity works best for me.

So how do you like that Martin backpacker? I looked at it about 4 years ago and absolutely hated the sound and the feel (and I LOVE Martins).

Well it's small looks like a boat paddle, it's ackward to hold and sounds kinda like a banjo. You can't expect too much of it. However it is small. When I bought it I was deployed over seas in the Army. So it took up very little room is very portable and still says Martin on the headstock.

I have fond memories of it but I rarely play it. It is one of those things where the sentimental value is worth much more then it is fiscaly worth so I keep it.

I want a new guitar, because my cheap is... i don't know, so cheap, lol. For one thing, it is so hard to do barre chords on it. Also, the black paint is chipping away under the strings. It was a good student guitar, but it's time to move on.

Are you looking for an acoustic or an electric?
What's your price range?
What are your playing goals for the next year or so?

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty cheap. Get a Strat and enjoy life (well what other guitar do you think I'd reccomend )!

Well, I'm looking for an acoustic electric. My price range? 100-200 bucks. I'm thinking I'll start looking next year sometime. Right now I'm so busy with my senior year of highschool, I don't have time to compare prices and really put my all into looking for one.

My goals? Well, I really believe that the Lord is leading me in the music ministry. So, I guess one of my goals would be to be a better guitarist. Maybe lead worship at my church sometimes. My pastor has talked to me about that.
Also, some of my friends and I have started a band. I've been playing the piano for almost 11 years, so I am the keyboard player. But I still might need to get better at the guitar, at least a little bit.

You might find a strat for $100. But not a decent Les Paul.

You might look at these listings:

Most acoustic/electrics in the price range you mentioned will come with several compromises: lesser quality electronics, dubious build quality, poor factory set-up, overabundance of laminate woods, thick-as-goo polyester/polyurethane finishes...and while they might be better than what you currently own, you may discover their shortcomings quickly as you progress as a player.

You can search the usual Takamine/Ibanez/Washburn/Yamaha a/e guitars in that range and see if you discover anything that you like, but if it were my $$$ and knowing what I know now, I'd save up a little more and look at the Seagull brand acoustics or the lesser-costing Art & Lutherie a/e guitars.
You get a lot of guitar for your money with them; solid tops, quality electronics, lacquer finishes, Tusq bridge and nut, good factory set-up, made in Canada...but you're probably going to spend between $300-400 unless you can find one used.

Here's one at MF:

Thanks for the links, guys!

Gtrdave, I watched your vids on youtube. They're awesome. I especially your "Indescribable" video. I'm a big fan of Laura Story and Chris Tomlin, and that's one of my favorite songs. In one of the parts, you play the chord F/A:

E_____________________________________D________G____
FROM THE HIGHEST OF HEIGHTS, TO THE DEPTHS OF THE SEA/

Am7_____________________ G___ F/A
CREATION'S REVEALING YOUR MAJESTY

I really liked your chord for the end of the word "majesty". When I played it before, I would always use a plain F major. But the F/A really expresses the mood in a more adequate way. BTW what is the real name of the F/A chord? I don't know what to call it, lol

This is what I was going to recommend.

Also, if he knows anyone who really knows guitars, he can bring him along and shop at pawn shops or second-hand stores. Sometimes great guitars end up in those places.

An F/A chord or any chord that you see displayed as x/y is called a compound chord or, more popularly known as, a slash chord.
It's a chord with an alternate bass note other than the root of the chord.
In an F/A chord, F is the chord played and A is the bass note (instead of F as the bass note).
F/A is also (specifically) called an inversion-based compound chord since the A note is already part of the F chord triad...but that's not important right now.
If this triad and inversion stuff is over your head, not to worry. It was all Greek to me at one time but it's fairly easy to pick up with some basic chord theory study.

The short answer: it's a compound chord or a slash chord.

Lol. Actually, it does make sense, only because I understand it in piano language.
Anyhow, I understand what an F/A chord is, but I was just wondering what the actual name of the chord was that you played. It sounds kindof like FACE, but I don't know what that chord is called. Kinda like an F7 1/2, lol.

For some reason I think they pulled my video.

Oh well, the chords for the verse that I'm playing should be:

Em - - D/F# - - G

Am7 - - Am7/G - - Fmaj9/C

EDIT: never mind, Youtube is having issues. My video is still there.

Success!

The BBE Supa Charger is as quiet as a grave.
Anyone with a pedalboard and hum issues should check it out.
And much cheaper than Voodoo Labs.

Ya got that right. But I suppose if that was true, everyone would spend too much time just listening to chords, and nothing would get done.

F/A is still an F chord, just inverted. The notes in an F major chord are F, A, & C.

F, A, C, & E make an Fmaj7.

Eb makes it a straight F7. Take the 8th (ie. the root an octave up) down a semitone and you have a major 7th chord.

Great chord, along with 9th and minor 9th chords.

And that thing where you play an F#m but let the open B and E strings ring out...

I have a question for the guitar players.

When people ask you to join their group for playing/singing for events (specifically church related), do you say yes, or are you rather picky about what groups you will agree to play/sing with?

I've gotten rather picky, to the point that I'm starting to look rude, which is ok with me I guess. I was just wondering what y'all do in these situations.

Went to practice last night for this event.

My new rule in life: only play in my regular group (which is my family ).
