My landlord's wall.[:o] That happened back when I was in college.

garsyt -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (10/1/2008 3:43:53 PM)

Another car.[:(] And worse, the other car was parked.

Light pole in a parking lot. I had been parking in this lot once a month for YEARS and one month they had no light poles in the lot and the next month they did and I backed into one.

A fox.

A raccoon mommy. Left several raccoon babies without a mommy.[:(]

Someone's cat.

Almost had someone's trailer hit me! But that's an entirely different thread!

Blessings,

Garsy

I haven't hit anything, but I did haev a dog hit me. Came flying out from between houses and ran right into my driver side door. Knocked himself out for a brief time.

a moving car ...

I took the right of way on a left turn. totaled both cars. no injuries.

other than that, I backed into a high curb and a big rock that was in the middle of the parking lot.

I hit a telephone pole, trying to get back into my driveway after realizing I had a flat tire. I backed into the driveway and I felt like I hit something, but I thought it was the incline of the driveway that I was on and I continued to back up. It may be funny now,but it wasn't funny then. I did damage to the whole side of the passenger's door and towards the back of the car. I'll be more patient the next time.

A squirel but he bounced up in the air and came back down and dented my roof so I guess he got the last laugh.

A skunk. Washed the underside of the truck multiple times and still couldn't get rid of all the smell. Took a couple of weeks for it to go away.

1970rodney -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (10/29/2008 11:01:16 PM)

I collided with my future brother-in-law's truck.

Mrs.Dawgfan -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (10/30/2008 4:57:15 PM)

A car battery laying out on the freeway.

Karaboo2 -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (10/30/2008 10:34:35 PM)

((elastic)) That must have been horrific!

Dh and I hit squirrels on the same day this summer (he in his van, me in mine, two separate areas of town).

When I was first learning to drive, my uncle decided to drive me out to the country so I could practice on those roads. He hit a skunk on the way out there ... the stench lingered for months!!! [:'(]

We had $2500+ worth of damage done to our one van a couple of weeks ago when I was rear-ended by a schoolbus while waiting for the light to change to green ... her (the driver's) story of the collision changed so many times when she was talking to the police officer that he is now officially charging her with reckless endangerment (she had 39 kids on board)

christsstar -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (10/31/2008 10:41:00 AM)

I was not directly involved in this, but elastic's story has inspired me to share it myself. Several of my co-workers, however, were stuck in this.

About a year ago, there was a REALLY bad traffic day on one of the freeways. AT about 5 am someone reported seeing a body in the freeway. The cops figured it was a dead dog or some other animal, and took their time responding to the report. Calls kept coming in and coming in. They finally decided to get out there and see what it was. Turns out it was a human torso that had been driven over for 2 hours on a MAJOR bay area freeway. THOUSANDS of cars had driven over it.

They shut the freeway down and routed everyone around the mess so they could investigate and clean it up. They determined that a man had tried to hitchhike from Berkeley to anywhere. No one would pick him up, so he grabbed on to a truck that was stopped or moving slowly. He managed to hold on for about 30 miles, when he fell off. They assume he died when he hit the pavement (truck going 70 mph) and then was run over for about 2-3 hours. He was non-recognizable.

My question regarding this will always be, if the cops were able to piece together the story, why wasn't it reported to the cops earlier that someone was holding on to the back of a truck? Or why didn't someone try to tell the truck there was someone on his bumper? It all sounds fishy to me. But that's the official report on the thing.

Since then, 3 other people have been found dead on bay area freeways; either suicides or murder dumps.

I just love living in the bay area.

Scary story!! I've hit three small animals (a muskrat, a squirrel, and a chipmunk), but the worst thing is hitting another vehicle - I've hit four parked cars, three right after I got my license, and one earlier this year. [:D]

One, was when I was backing out of my driveway (neighbor's car parked on the curb), another was at a Wendy's parking lot - I was pulling INTO a space that time and overestimated my turn, another was in my employer's parking lot - same instance, except there was someone IN the car! And the most recent one, was a good friend's car, we were both backing out of opposite parking spaces at the same time. I was horribly embarrassed all four times though none of the cases involved the police, thankfully!

I was also rear-ended once on a highway, the lady behind me was impatient for me to turn right, though I had a red light, and "nudged" me once... when the light finally turned, she stepped on it, and full on hit me. She stopped for a moment and I was planning to call the police, but she drove off around me. Grrr.

YES!! [:D] The police weren't involved in any of the cases, as there was no damage - two vehicles had some paint marks, but that was it. Because it was all parking related, I wasn't going fast. But I sure learned quick how to park correctly!!

I would've called and reported it as a hit&run ... that would be far worse for her than if she had stayed at the scene.

I also once hit two ducks. One with the drivers front and one with the passenger rear. Yeah at the same time. Feathers everywhere. It was wild.

christsstar -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (11/2/2008 10:37:14 AM)

In California, the cops are only involved if there was alcohol involved, someone was injured, or if the cars were not drivable. I got hit by someone running a red light once. We exchanged insurance information and went on our way. I called the cops after the fact to file an incident report (as I would've done in Colorado). The cops on the phone were very confused and said, "You dont' need to report this. You did everything you needed to do at the scene." It all made me very nervous. I was afraid that she wouldn't follow through with getting my car fixed and/or wouldn't return my calls. And she was from out of state, which added to my nervousness. Then I would need the cops for my insurance to cover it. I was pleased when she did follow through. But I just hear so many stories about people giving false info or whatever.

Lady_Daffodil -> RE: What is the worst thing you've ever hit with your car? ( (11/4/2008 12:39:07 PM)

I hit a dog once. It was on a highway in the middle of a city, with concrete on either side, so I have no idea where this dog came from and it just ran in front of my car, and I couldn't see where it landed. I was on my way to work and I didn't know what to do, so I happened to be passing by the home of some fellow church members so I stopped at their house and they called the SPCA for me.
