ORIGINAL: monamie Will any of you be wearing costumes on Halloween? If so, what will they be? We have a big kids event on that day and I think I'm supposed to dress up. I have no idea what to wear. Something clever and creative. Any ideas???? Maybe I'll find a skeleton costume, since I work for a chiropractor. On the rare occasions that I require a Halloween costume, I go as Rooster Cogburn. I have the shirt, pants, boots, bandana, cowboy hat, eye patch, and even the gun and holster. For you Mona, I suggest Annie Oakley.

How will they know it's my costume???? Cranky, when I was in high school our show choir did that song--choreography too!! At the time it seemed cool.......now not so much. But I still love the song. Just should be sung by the Doobie Brothers and not a bunch of teens in disco satin jumpsuits.

ORIGINAL: Kerrlaw Considering that I lost my shirt in your last venture (Rent-a-Coot), I believe that I'll let this one pass. Whoa, Mr. Kerrlaw, there was nothing in the Rent-A-Coot business that called for the removal of clothing. You should have read the contract. Maybe that's why the venture wasn't quite as successful as planned. Rent-a-Fireman, maybe....but Rent-a-Coot...black dress socks and sandals look better WITH shirts.

Now I will tell my story of the Wauhobs. First, this is appropriate because of the Southern Gospel tie-in. So many years ago when I worked at a Southern Gospel station I held in my hands a Wauhob album, loaned to us by a friend, more on that in a moment. This dreadful production featured a son who apparently may have never played drums before but he got the job on this record. His bursts of talent, a sudden attack on the trap set at moments of arbitrary decision "grace" the tracks. The fellow I worked with, who later became a successful musician and songwriter, saw the phone number on the back of the album cover and called these poor folks, just funnin' with them. He told them how everyone in our area was enjoying their music and wondered when they would have a new album out. He was told, "Oh, I don't know. We still have plenty of the old ones left right now." So how did the word get out about this fabulous group? They put their self-sponsored recordings up for sale in a local store. The way I heard it, a Nashville record executive happened to be driving through Iowa, stopped at the store and discovered the Wauhobs. He bought the entire lot at the store and brought them back to Nashville to give as gifts to those who visited his office. Now the friend who loaned the copy to the station was an aspiring songwriter who visited the producer's office and got a complimentary copy. I just googled the Wauhobs and found that website. And CoeurdeLeon, you're right...it's really not music at all. I guess people just love them for their sincerity. Ah yes...their version of "He looked beyond my fault" is playing on my speakers now. Great stuff. May all aspiring gospel singers take note...the music industry is not for the thin-skinned and bad recordings are likely to be laughed at.

I have always assumed that my "15 minutes of fame" will be the result of something I've done that was unforgettably idiotic. Something so extremely embarrassing that it will be the hottest e-mail forward and youtube clip. That's just how it goes for me.
