stampinlady -> Where do you get avatars from? (9/30/2008 10:24:17 AM)

I'm looking for a halloween one and can't seem to find one the correct size. I'm still not very savy when it comes to this stuff.[:@]

Some people make them, some people use their own pics, some people google 'pumpkin image', and some use avatar-making sites (like the one I used for my pic at left).

If I were you, I would google 'pumpking image' or 'witch image' or whatever you wanted, and remember, it can't be bigger than 145 x 145 but it can be smaller.

when i want one that isn't a picture I already have, I google search the topic plus the word "pictures"...then I save what I want and resize it for this site (max 145x145 and 10k). HERE is a shrinking web site to shrink avatar pics...make sure you put in the right specs for this site.

Thanks.

If somebody would care to give me detailed instructions on how to post an avatar in here from another website, I'd really appreciate it. I tried sometime ago, but it just wouldnt take.

The only way I know how is, you have to save it to your computer first, make sure it conforms to the specs, then upload it. I don't know anything about being able to have an avatar linked from another website like you can with the profile picture.

With that... just right click the pic ...and save as (type) to the computer or just copy the pic and paste it in any picture viewer.

right, but I don't know if one can actually direct link to a website, like imagecave to post an avatar.

I just started a course with Access Database so at this point I am not exactly sure…but I don't think so... because unless you have a program that hackers use to read packets... you would need to find the link in the reading where that the picture is embedded when you click on the pic....
Unless it is seen in the somewhere in the HTML of the web page, but I wouldn't recommend that based on security reasons... you could be opening up a link in the other direction to your PC.

Linking to the picture itself would be like a hyperlink and would just bring up the whole website

Greetings

One can always right click any picture on a web page and go to properties. and on the properties page one will see this here >>>>>Address (URL)
for example is should look like this
http://www.onenewsnow.com/vid/1008dv_biden_intro_092x069.jpg

And then from that web page right click the picture again and do a SaveAS.... and check the size of the pic

Or you may be able to use the URL link above when your My Profile asks to browse for an avatar or a pic....or Upload my picture (will replace the existing one)
Copy and paste the link (above) into the field and see what happens

I haven't tried it ….unless the browse is bound to a local computer, for example C: then http:// may not work because of security reasons

But I haven’t tried it.... to know if http is allowed or not.... meaning ... if one can browse for a pic from an http location.... as opposed to the local drive EX: c: d: etc etc

GREAT. I have taken a pic from another site and put it onto my computer. NOW, how do i move it to an area that I can resize it? LOL

Kath -> RE: Where do you get avatars from? (10/25/2008 2:06:59 PM)

Up in post 3, Peculiar_Lady linked to a website where you can upload your picture to edit the sizing.

Pamsy -> RE: Where do you get avatars from? (10/29/2008 6:39:07 PM)

Did you scroll towards the bottom of the page and click either apply or ok? If you don't, it won't "take".

Pamsy -> RE: Where do you get avatars from? (11/1/2008 9:47:25 AM)

Do, I didnt hit apply at the bottom, but NOW when I try to upload the photo before hitting apply, it says 'runtime error'. Sigh. It seems like God is just not on my side when it comes to computers.

there are quite a few "old pro's" who are having trouble uploading a pic right now too, so this may not be you, it could be the system maintenance they are doing right now.

Pamsy -> RE: Where do you get avatars from? (11/11/2008 7:49:33 PM)

Well, it didn't work. Now I have no avatar.
