Alright, this has been bugging me and wondering what you'll have to say about this.

As far as choosing careers in life, would you say you are free to do what interest you the most as long as your faith is steadfast in Jesus, he will bless you with whatever you decide to do if you believe in him?

Now to get to heaven you must be born again and trust God competely with everything, active prayer and bible reading....put him above everything else...etc now if this gets your soul to heaven does the rest that you do in this life just decides what rewards you recieve in heaven?

If you are a christian, how do you know what you are doing in life is pleasing to God or what he wants you to do? I'm not refering to ministry work but more to general life. Just an average person living in this world.

being a Christian isn't so much what you do, it's who you are and how you treat others. anything you do could be used for good or evil, except like the porn industry or drug trafficking, stuff like that.

I would say do what you love, what you are good at and where your talents and skills meet a need in the world.

for example if you're good at math and you enjoy it, look at being a Math major or Accounting. if you like people, look at Communications, Human resources; if you are analytical think of operations. if you like law enforcement, look at being a cop or going into law.

it's all good. What isn't good is using your skills, talents and intelligence to hurt others or take money form them or do injurious things to your neighbors.

Redtail, you certainly do bring up a good point!

My advice is to get a good well-rounded education, many people don't necessarily work in the field in which they have majored in. I have seen it a lot over the years. [;)] The important thing is to do something you enjoy. Figure out what you are naturally good at, what you have a knack for. Put it together with what you enjoy doing. Talk to the guidance counselors at college, they can give you some ideas too.

As far as how to apply your faith to what you do? I will share what a very wise Christian friend told me when I said I would like to eventually do missionary work: You are surrounded with missionary work everywhere you go, everything you do. You don't need to go anywhere special.

You see, Redtail, God will use you no matter what you choose to do, anywhere you choose to work. The secret is this: that you have a heart for the Lord and you seek after His will in your life through prayer. He will use you, all you need to do is allow Him to.

And yet, I truly believe that sometimes God does have very specific things / jobs for us to do. But if we have a true and good relationship with him, he can speak those things to us and direct us in that. Sometimes I think he lets us choose and sometimes he has specifics... he did for me... this coming from one being in the foreign mission field for 10+ years. I even left and went "home", but he wouldn't let me stay there, so I came back out here. You can minister where you are and should, but sometimes God has a reason for putting you in a place where others can't, or aren't, reaching out.

You know that what you are doing in life is pleasing to God when you're able to honor Him with it. It doesn't matter what future career you decide, or any of life's big decisions, as long as you are seeking Him - you can always give God the glory in any situation, whether good or bad. It's all in your heart and mind.
