Time for a new thread "worthy of the calling of the Kicka". [8D]

Here is a short summary of what Kicka is:

It's a fact there are any number of women on these forums who are engaged in a struggle to conceive a child. Due to sensitivities toward those women, I did ask that people not turn Kicka into "Here's what I do to get my child to sleep at night" or "When did you first feel your baby kick?"

It's not that those types of discussions aren't valid -- they absolutely ARE, and I understand why people have those discussions. HOWEVER, there are threads specifically designed for topics like that (the pregnancy thread, the post-partum thread, the breastfeeding thread, etc.) that are custom-made for women to discuss any and all issues pregnancy and child related.

What I have asked here in Kicka is merely that if you want to come here and talk about your child turning over for the first time -- that's great! We can celebrate that milestone with you, but let's not let that segue into the topic of the day. You ARE welcome to mention your pregnancy or mention your children. It's just if you're looking for lots of discussion or advice on those subjects, please see the corresponding threads in the Women Only folder instead.

Infertile people deal with other people's pregnancies and babies and children all the time. It's part of their life. But I just wanted to make sure we had a chat space here that wasn't child-centric or pregnancy-centric. If I am being unclear please let me know and I will offer further explanation.

If you were invited to a birthday lunch, would you expect that the people who invited you would pay?

We are going out to a hotel for my brothers 18th and my sister and Dad think that my uncle and auntie will expect Dad to pay for their meals. My sister thinks its a "european" thing but I think they are just assuming things where they shouldn't and stressing about nothing.

I may well be doing the same.

Here's a question I was confronted with yesterday as a writer.

I had brought some poetry into work to share with another person. Someone else walked into the conversation and asked to read it. Knowing it was a pretty intense piece about a particular subject which can cause pain if people haven't dealt with that issue in their own lives I was a bit dubious about sharing it, but it was one of those situations where it was very difficult whether I said yes or no.

I let her read the piece and later on the person I'd originally intended to share it with said I should be careful with pieces like that because people may have issues they haven't dealt with.

You get this same situation with other issues - one that comes to mind is modesty - how much responsibility do you consider is on the shoulders of the person doing something (if they are clear of conscience and not sinning) and how much do you consider that the person confronted by their non-sinful behaviour is responsible for their own reaction?

And, as an aside, I know that the written word can be very powerful and would not have shared this piece with this particular person if they had not walked into the conversation and asked to read it (it did come with a warning that they find it too confronting).

Not if it was family or a casual, get-together with friends. If it was a formal, sit down, catered function then I would.

Kylie- its just a casual one, its not catered.

Hmm I don't know what I would of done in your situation. I might have said that it was a little personal and you would like to talk to them first before they read it?

If I was the "guest" I wouldn't expect to be paid for... but if I was the host I wouldn't want to be unprepared for people who don't want to pay for themselves...

Kylie,

I get what you did and why. If you tell the person "No, you can't read it", you know that person is going to think "Oh, I guess *I* am not privileged enough like our other co-worker, Susan, to read Kylie's poetry." I mean, it looks pretty exclusive, and how do you explain that you're not trying to be exclusive without making it into a bigger deal?

Since the other person was an adult I would just not worry about it. That person asked to read whatever was on the paper, you gave a verbal warning of the content, the adult proceeded. The choice was theirs, the responsibility was assumed when they had the warning and read it anyway.

My deep thought for the night is about how often God blesses us in ways we totally didn't expect right in the middle of situations where we've come to the end of what we can do.

One of the kiddos that I work with passed away on Monday. I found out yesterday- I'm still processing, or rather NOT processing. She was very medically involved and wasn't originally expected to live past 6 months (she was 2.5 y/o). Please pray for her family.

I do not believe that babies or small children have the capacity to either accept or deny Christ. I don't believe our loving God would send someone to eternal damnation that did not have the ability to accept or deny Him.

I don't know. I do remember discussing this before, but I don't remember if it was in Kicka or elsewhere. My own personal opinion: I believe all humans are sinful. Even babies that are just born...I believe we are all born with a sinful nature (thanks a lot Adam & Eve! [8D]) I do believe that God demands, and has the right to demand, perfection. For older children and adults, we receive that through grace when we accept Christ. For babies...I don't know. However, I rest in the fact that our God is a loving, gracious, and merciful God. He wants ALL people in heaven with Him. And so I trust that in his mercy and grace, His wisdom is beyond what I can comprehend. And I don't know for sure, but rest in his loving faithfulness.
Like I said, that's just my personal humble opinion.

All are sinners even precious baby's we are born into sin, but 1 John 2:12 says "12. I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake." makes me believe that they do.

I'm bumping us back up to the first page.

Have you heard about the shooting at a college in Finland this morning (middle of the night for you ladies, or at least very early a.m.). Three dead and the shooter killed himself. Not known yet if the shooter is counted as one of the 3 or if he killed 3. Many more are injured.

I got my etsy shop set up last night with my first four wall hangings for sale listed. I'm excited! I tried to put up a new pic in my avatar showing an example piece, but by the time I had shrunk it down to fit the specifications to upload it here, it was too small to even see. Anyone know how to fix that?

I called in sick to work today... after much debate with myself. It was good that I called in, I would have been miserable and would not have had a good day.

This brings up a question though...

how sick do *you* have to be to cancel either work or some other engagement that you have scheduled?

For me -- I'll usually have to be at the picking-myself-up-off-the-floor stage or someone telling me to stay home before I'll stay home myself. It's silly of me, really. If I know I'm contagious, I will stay home in that case, definitely.

Once in college I was very sick for about 10 days and kept on working and going to class. I ended up in the ER with a respiratory infection on breathing treatments. [&:] I finally went in when my airway almost completely closed while I was driving. I stayed home for a few days after that. [sm=aside.gif]

When I was working outside of the home it took a lot for me to call in sick and stay home. It takes a lot for me to cancel, call in sick, or ask hubby to stay home from work because I am not feeling well.
