Which is the better series? Now, granted, I understand that Narnia was targeted to a younger age group than LOTR, but which one meant the most to you? Which was your favorite?

The Narnia series are some of my favorite books, so is Tolkien's trilogy but it just doesn't compare (to Narnia) in my mind. They are both in my favorite genre to read though!

LOTR. I couldn't get past the third book in the Narnia series. Maybe because I picked them up as an adult, having already read LOTR more than 30 times. To me there's just no comparison. One is obviously for kids (Narnia), the other for a more general audience.

Yes I definitely agree that LOTR is more complex and for a more advanced reading audience, but there are just some little truths weaved into Narnia that have so much truth to them- especially things about Aslan that are so true about God. Narnia will always hold a place in my heart because when I did read the books I was little and the reading level didn't bother me. Nevertheless, one thing that I think is better about LOTR is that he has so much plot weaved into the books, that you can read them and then wait a year or two and you will forget some of what happened plotwise. In Narnia, if you read it two or three times, the plot gets rather boring. Not to say you can't pick up on anything new, but...

I've read Narnia three times, and i'm part way through my fourth (just got side tracked by other books). Still love them just as much! I've read LOTR three times and watched the movies... oh a gazillion times! I also like the Wheel of Time series.

I like them equally, but differently. They touch the same place in my heart but in different, wonderful ways.

I'm with 9drtr. They're different, even though they're supposedly the same genre. I like them both for different reasons. A big thumbs up to both of them.

They're both fantasy, but C of N is clearly allegorical while LOTR is not.

I like Lewis's more overt books on faith. Although in the movies, whenever Aslan roars, I think "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPEL YOU" Tolkien's was the better Inkling series.

I loved reading Narnia. Read them the first time as a freshman in college. Everyone else was reading LOTR. I had never heard of either series until then. Tried reading The Hobbit and barely got thru it as the fantasy world seemed just too heavy. Every time I opened the book I felt like I was wearing a backpack filled with rocks. Never even tried the trilogy. So I read the Narnia books instead and found them delightful.

Considering I've had the Narnia books for a few years and only half-way through the series, I had to go with LOTR. I breezed through the Hobbit and the other LOTR very quickly. I just get bogged down reading Narnia and do plan to finish all of them someday. For Narnia, I lost interest again in the The Voyage of the Dawn Trader. It took me several months to finally finish Prince Caspian. So far, I enjoyed the Horse and His Boy the most. It didn't take me long to read it.

Although they are both lovely series, I'm going to have to go with Lord of the Rings as my favourite. The Chronicles is a great series, but it was written for children, and because of that it has neither a very involved plot, nor much character development. Narnia just doesn't make my mind work like LOTR does!
