This is gonna be great, if they'll just ACTUALLY do it! Sometimes, these companies promise that they're gonna release vintage stuff, and they get so busy producing the new stuff that they forget their promise. Hopefully that won't happen in this case.

The official release was Tuesday (Sept 16) on iTunes. Fortunately, I also work as a dj and have free access to the entire download.

I down loaded the Nelons The First Noel. I love Kelly Nelon & Karen Peck harmonizing on the 2nd verse. To me the best song on that album.

Hey jwsduran, The Rex Nelon Singers cut of The First Noel is Kelly and Janet Paschal. Karen Peck had not joined the group yet.

Hi Atlanta, Actually it is Karen Peck, she joined the Nelons in the spring of 1981 and the Christmas songs were cut in the summer of 1981. She was with the Nelons 9.5 years.

Wendy Bagwell... :o) Too bad it's iTunes and not a site that sells downloads in the universal MP3 format...but I'm glad to see them doing this!

DB, does Itunes not download music you buy in .mp3 format? I have downloaded several podcasts, and all of them are in mp3 format. I have never purchased though.

ORIGINAL: jwsduran DB, you can get the mp3 version of the release on Amazon. Good to know... I just downloaded "Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem" by the Florida Boys from iTunes, and I see Canaan has unfortunately opted not to use the iTunes Plus format. That means it's much more of a hassle than it ought to be to convert to MP3. First it must be burned to a CD, then ripped. If they'd gone for the iTunes Plus format, I could merely right click on it, and choose "Convert Selection to MP3." So again, it's very good to know Canaan will be offering their classic songs direct as MP3 format files via Amazon.

MOD, Please let me know if it's ok to post links to websites for discussion. I understand someone made a comment that this was not allowed (i.e. posting the Canaan link). But, this is only for inappropriate material, correct? I would appreciate the clarification since I'm fairly new at this thing. Thanks.

You're not allowed to post links to any of your own websites, but I think you can posts links to a site like Canaan's.

That is actually very funny, since Mr. Mount's website in his signature is a selling tool for HIS books. Very interesting....

I have used Itunes for months downloading podcasts, and they have all been mp3 format? I thought I understood and answered your question already, but now I'm not sure. You asked specifically about the music format, so when I answered "nope," I wasn't talking about podcasts. Here's the extended answer... You're correct that podcasts download as MP3 files....at least the Phil Keaggy podcasts I've downloaded are MP3 files. MP3 files will play on any device....iPods and non-iPods alike. It's a more-or-less de facto, universal format. When you buy a song from the iTunes store, though, the file is a proprietary format for iTunes and iPod. The file extension is m4p. There are two varieties...original iTunes, and iTunes Plus. iTunes Plus files can be quickly converted to MP3. Original iTunes files can be converted, but it's much more time consuming...burn a CD, then rip to MP3. If you buy music from the iTunes store and then use an iPod or the iTunes software on your computer to listen to your music, it works just fine...no need to convert to MP3. If you use a non-iPod MP3 player, though, as several million of us do, you won't be able to play songs purchased from iTunes without converting them to MP3. Most non-iPod players support WMA format, but WMA is also crippled with DRM...and won't play on an iPod. WMA is like the reverse side of the equation. This is why it's ALWAYS better, if you have the option, to purchase music downloads in the MP3 format. It's ALWAYS better, when ripping a CD, to rip to MP3 format rather than WMA or an iTunes format. There may come a point in the future where you want to play your music on another device. If it's MP3, it doesn't matter. Virtually every player plays MP3. If it's proprietary (WMA, iTunes, RealAudio, etc.), then it may not work when you change devices down the road. There are people who have purchased huge libraries of music, and they get stuck...having to convert many files.

During an announcement yesterday of more music from the vault - namely A Classic Canaan Christmas, Canaan is offering autographed Christmas ornaments. I just haven't heard of that kind of product before but I haven't been around as long as some of you!! You can get one free by purchasing two or more projects or you can even buy them from the website. Anyone here gonna get one??????
