I love the Booths, but "Look For Me" was not really the BEST SONG nominated this year. It won because of all the fans like me who voted for it because I like the Booths. After hearing all the songs performed together Saturday night, I am convinced that Triumphant's "The Great I AM Still Is" was the best song of 2008.

I had a hard time deciding between the two but I still think "Look For Me" was the best choice.

I think It Means Just What It Says was the best song of the past year. Actually, I think it was the best song of the past five years.

I thought "I Can Pray" was the best song for the 07-08 voting period, but it did not even make the top 10. I guess that shows how much I know. I like the Booth Brothers as well, but certainly did not think "Look for Me" was the best song. It is a cover of a Kingsmen song that the Kingsmen themselves have covered 2 or 3 times since the original recording. Of course that is just IMHO.

Someone once said.... "Timing is everything!" Sure seems to be the case with the "Favorite Songs," doesn't it?

It has to be on the radio during the year, just like a bass singer has to be performing during the year of eligibility. (Sorry, but we cannot vote J.D. Sumner in as bass of the year.)

In what year did Squire Parsons write 'Look For Me At Jesus Feet'? Was the Kingsmen the first to record it? How many groups have recorded the song?

I don't know the year it was written, but the Kingsmen recorded it in 1973 on "Big And Live". I'm sure several groups, both full and part time, have covered it, but the only ones I'm 100% positive of are Gold City, Dove Brothers, Brian Free & Assurance, and the Booth Brothers. BTW, I checked the BMI website. It has the song listed, but not the year it was published.

You can add the Old Paths to that list.

In what year did Squire Parsons write 'Look For Me At Jesus Feet'? I'm helping a group get the mechanical license for this particular song; here's what the publisher has listed in the contract: quote:
"Look for Me at Jesus' Feet" Squire Parsons (c) 1974 Beulah Music (BMI) But, that's most likely when he published it through Beulah Music. I think it may have been released before through Kingsmen Publishing (though I have no direct record of that.)

levisamjuno, When I checked the BMI website, I saw that its listing for the song does give Kingsmen Publishing Co. as the publisher.

"Look for Me at Jesus' Feet" is a great song, but I actually like the Brian Free & Assurance version from their Timeless Hymns & Classics 2 project better. Well as far as that goes I like the Old Paths version from Live in Pigeon Forge better too.

Having seen the Booths stage this song many times I'd say the memory of the song (and remembering a song is a KEY to nominating it and then voting for it) is as much about their lead in/staging as their singing of the song.

I enjoyed Triumphant song, but I belive HOLY SHORE was the best out of the bunch. And as far as Mixed Group the Perry's should have won over the Hoppers

Having started this thread, my wife and I would certainly agree that "I Can Pray" by Jerry Martin and the Dove Brothers was the best of the best in 2007-2008. Glad to hear so many of you thought so much of that song also. Too bad that it fell through the "eligibility crack" due to timing, but we have a feeling that this song will appear in the Top 5 again in the near future.

This year I voted for the Hoppers but I also really like the Perrys (In 2004-2005 I voted for the Perrys). Remember the Hoppers have a broader fan base than that of the Perrys. The Hoppers venture out west, to Canada and places the Perrys don't have as strong a fan base. Growing up in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast region of the US, I can tell you the Hoppers have a much stronger fan base than that of the Perrys in that area of the country. I would also venture to say that if Singing News broke down votes by region, the Perrys would've probably won the southeast by a fairly wide margin. Let's not discount a particular artists win without looking at all the factors.

Cannot say enough about this song, Jerry Martin and The Dove Brothers, Look For Me, and all the other songs they do soooooo beautifully!

But remember, the fans have spoken, the awards given and everyone has their favorites. The winners for this year are and still will be the winners. Just get behind your favorite artist and vote next year and hope for the best. I think Singing News does a great job at what they do and the Singing News Awards program was A-1 class in my opinion.

Point well taken and already understood that the fans had spoken, I did vote and plan to continue voting for my favorites as everyone else, I shall stop on that point! God bless all!

I did find it interesting that the group that seems to draw the biggest crowds to their concerts got shut out at the fan awards for the second straight year - EHSSQ.
