sgpianoman -> NQC Showcases 08 (9/15/2008 10:09:31 AM)

Hey guys, unfortunately i did not attend NQC, but i really enjoyed following along the blogs, videos, and live audio streams from the event.

My question though is:
Did any attend many of the smaller showcases? Did you get to hear your favorites or find any new groups to enjoy?

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: NQC Showcases 08 (9/15/2008 10:41:21 AM)

No, this year, i didn't go to any of the smaller showcases. I just went to the bigger ones like GVB/SSQ, and the Vintage Quartets Showcase, and a couple others.

Smokymtnsanta -> RE: NQC Showcases 08 (9/15/2008 10:43:13 AM)

We only went to the Pianorama on Sat. Really enjoyed that one and Gerald was at his best as MC.

I wanted to stay for the Dino Showcase after the GVB/SSQ one was over, but i had to leave for a while to go and switch hotels i was staying.

We went to the Artists Showcases on Monday and Tuesday. The cost was $10 per day or both days for $15. They were hosted by Tim Lovelace and Zane King, so they sang/played a couple of songs each day as well. They featured 20-25 up and coming groups/soloists. We really enjoyed it. Each group sang 2 songs apiece, so if you did not like 1 group you only had to wait a few minutes for another. I naturally liked some groups better than others, but for the most part they were good. Here of some of my favorites:

CROSS 4 CROWNS (Excellent male quartet! I bought both of their CDs and they are great. My favorite from both days)
Calvarymen Quartet (Male quartet with an excellent sound)
Spoken 4 (Another good male quartet)
Providence Quartet (Male quartet)
Four Fold (Male quartet)
Paul's Journey (A male quartet with a little more progressive sound. Very good)
The Shaffers (Mixed trio with a very good sound)
Voices Won (Male trio that I really enjoyed)
Mike Upright (Soloist with a country gospel sound)
Mitchel Jon (Excellent soloist formerly with Three Bridges. (Fantastic voice if you like a little more progressive SG)

There were other good ones as well, but these were the highlights for me. I hope to get to go early in the week next year, so I can enjoy these showcases again.

I heard the Browns and Cross 4 Crowns in showcases, and really enjoyed both.

Seaton -> RE: NQC Showcases 08 (9/18/2008 9:37:07 AM)

Of the smaller showcases I enjoyed Driven Qt, HisSong, Perry Sisters, Dills, Ricky Atkinson & Compassion (they sounded good with Loren Harris and Greg Cook), Ball Brothers, English Family and I am sure there are several I missed.

I also attended a portion of the 'Song Of A Lifetime' showcase and all of the 'Crabb' showcase.

Now that just isn't even right!

If there was one showcase I would've loved to hit this year it would've been that one!

4 top favorites all in one place! How was it?

One of the two I was able to attend was "Song of a Lifetime." That was good. It had many groups singing, but one major highlight was the Greenes singing "Miracle in Me" after a tear-jerking testimony from a fan in audience of how that song kept her from aborting her baby son who is now training to be a Navy Seal.

There was also a very young girl who rocked the house with "Amazing Grace" and about 1 song by great groups like BFA, KHQ, TQ, Perrys, and others.

The Atlanta choir really rocked the house too!

Phil was visibly stressed about his finances and the sound difficulties [8|], but it was all good.

(I didn't get to see Cross 4 Crowns, but I did pick up their latest cds. I talked to Dallas and he said they've just signed with Crossroads, so I think BIG things are in store for them!)

I think this may have been the same young lady that came by the Canaan Record booth and had a photo with me. I heard someone say something about her singing and I asked her to sing me a song and "Amazing Grace" was what she sang for me. BEAUTIFUL to say the least.

Tyler --- do you remember who Gary Casto's co-writer was of Grace Will Always Be Greater Than Sin that appeared on the program? We didn't get her name and I'm trying to finish up a review. Could it have been Barbara Huffman???

I'm not Tyler [;)], but Barbara Huffman was the co-writer of "Grace Will Always Be Greater Than Sin".

Loved the video you put together, Dinana! I can't wait for Phil's professionally-produced one to be finished!

Dinana, watching your video brought back so many great memories! There sure was an incredible amount of energy in Freedom Hall that afternoon. Perhaps no one impacted me more than the young man in the wheel chair. I got in there just as he was singing and didn't even get his name but wow....! I still get "goosebumps"!

Didn't he sing a fantastic song? And his voice was simply beautiful! I was wonderful!!![:D]

BTW, the young man's name is Tommy Moseley. Here's his website.

hinson1212 -> RE: NQC Showcases 08 (9/23/2008 11:10:29 AM)

I just attended the larger showcases. The Songwriters showcase again out shined them all. It again proved to be one of my hightlights of NQC.
