What are you talking about, Mike? 
I think it's because we like color so much and that includes our shoes. Plus, we are more detailed oriented, and you can't really treat the details of your dress appropriately on just a few colors and styles of shoes. 
Quick story:
When I was first married, my husband and I were walking through a mall, and way down a side hall I spied some shoe racks standing in front of a store.This is a sixth sense we have. I knew immediately it was a sale, and I made a beeline for it dragging my husband with me. After I looked for a while, he sidled up to me and said, "What is it with women and shoes?" I said, "What are you talking about? I'm not that into shoes." He then said, "How many pairs of shoes do I have? And how many do you have?" I laughed and said, "Well, I don't have as many as some women I know."

One reason for me is that I wear pretty classic clothing...nothing too vibrant or busy at all. So, shoes are great way to add some color and fun without having it splashed all over my body. I'll buy shoes with glitter, or beadwork, or something like that although I'd never wear that on my clothing. I guess shoes are the place I have fun with what I wear.
Shoes can also change the entire look of an outfit...you can dress up a pair of jeans or wear them casual just with the shoe you choose. And match it(or coordinate it) to a nice handbag and it really brings your whole look together.
Another reason, is shoes are easy to fit and pretty much any style can flatter almost any foot...you don't put them on and wonder if they make you look fat...lol!

Thanks! I have the black ones. I wear them to weddings usually...three hours max and off they come!

Who needs a paycheck...they could pay us in inventory!
