Being a PK, I was taught that when we were at anyone's home, we were to eat what was before us and to ask no questions. As a child, I ate some pretty nasty stuff. As an adult, I can make other choices, for which I am eternally grateful.

As I've said before in these forums, I find it fascinating the number of people who claim to believe in private ownership of property, capitalist economics, etc., until they meet someone with something they don't have themselves.

There was one time when we were supposed to eat at someone's house, and I am sure that woman never washed her hands for any reason. My sister and I were little, and I remember being at their table, looking at their soy sauce, which apparently had a permanent place on the table. It had several generations of living and dead fruit flies, or something similar, in it. The life process, from the larval stage to the long-dead was proudly displayed in that little scrungy bottle!
And we had to eat there.
I survived.
Another time some people invited my family over after Sunday service. The adults were served a real nice meal in the dining room. The children were told to grab what was on the kitchen table and go play. It was cold hot dogs, and I am sure they were not kosher.
Preparation: the plastic wrapper was split, we dug them out with our hands and put them on the provided hot dog buns, then squirted them with mustard to try to disguise them. I thought I was going to die, but my sister and I merely got sick.
The thing is, however, that I keep thinking of the homeless who eat worse, who eat less, and when they get sick, tough luck.

ROFLOL!!! That's so funny... I can't tell you how my mind has been working on this dirty money tangent...
I thought there may be a lil maid (given he has a cook) who washes all the money... but then I got to figure that he'd still have to handle the money ~ cash machines, change and such when it was dirty... so I'm guessing along with the cook and the maid there has to be a manservant who carries all his money (before it is washed) and such....

A poseur is someone who makes certain that everyone else knows what a fantastic and moral person they are, what wonderful good deeds they perform, how they care for the downtrodden and the fallen. The poseur makes sure you know that they are chosen by God to enlighten everyone around them by the shining example of their good deeds, such as shaking the hands of dirty people.

That would be one possibility, as would the person who makes certain that everyone knows what a lavish lifestyle they live as a means of impressing them.

A poseur could also be someone who wants to impress others with how bad, evil, dangerous they are. It's pretending to be someone you're not and that someone could be anyone. I suppose someone could even pose as a homeless street person, though I can't imagine them wanting to do that for too long.
Our pastor yesterday was preaching about the importance of getting out of our comfort zones and mingling with people who are culturally different. He was specifically addressing the needs of our community which has the dichotomy of white middle class people from the suburbs and poor natives living on or very close to on the streets. He was encouraging BOTH groups to bridge the gap. Some are doing it already but others have a very hard time with it.
Then, after the service, we had a BBQ for everyone (neighbourhood invited). We had to have a mix of people at each table. I sat beside a very interesting old native man who was hard to hear but was quite willing to talk and share stories. Across the table were three young university students who were visiting the church for the first time--invited by the pastor who had been teaching one of their classes the previous week. I noticed that some of the street people were far less comfortable mixing than the man beside me and one man who came after most everyone was finished actually turned away from me when I tried to begin a conversation. That's okay. Some of us need more space than others.
Oh! And I shook the hands of all I greeted.

A thought. Why are some people in this thread showing less compassion to Eks than they would to a homeless person on the street. It doesn't matter who we are or who we pretend to be. We all need to be treated with compassion and respect.

I am not sure everyone needs to be treated with compassion and respect; some people need a swift kick in the hind parts and to be told in no uncertain terms that they need to be more concerned about being rich in the things of God then they are in the things of man.
