solomonsprayer -> Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 2:39:55 PM)

For those aspiring and current actors/actresses who are Christian, do you feel it is morally wrong to kiss or do a love scene in a film or play?

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 4:07:45 PM)

short answer....

yes.....

although a kiss isn't as big of a deal as a full blown love scene...

and I suppose if we don't think certain things should be acted, we shouldn't be watching those things...

you have now given me my conviction of the day...[:o][&o]

humbleinspirit -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 5:21:58 PM)

I believe that someone shouldn't kiss another just for the sake of acting. Ok, maybe kissing itself is harmless, it is the stuff after that which can be a problem instead.

Consecrated2God -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 5:28:18 PM)

For me personally, I can't do it. I'm married, and it would not be good for my relationship with my husband if I were to kiss someone else. It would easily lead to temptations, and I just can't go there. I have held hands with someone in a play, and made lovey eyes at them, and that was tough enough.

It might not affect everyone else the same, though. I think it would depend on the person. Of course, there are still some things that (sexual stuff) that's wrong for anyone to do with anyone they aren't married to, but a kiss is one of those things that depends on the person.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 5:30:53 PM)

Of course I meant if the person was single. It could be a problem if married as well.

stellaluna -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 8:51:28 PM)

If they didn't, I guess only non-Christian actors would work on Christian films?

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 10:25:21 PM)

Well, I would think a film made by a christian company would make an effort to leave that stuff out.

stellaluna -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 10:33:04 PM)

What would a Christian film be without lovey dovey handholding and romantic kissing? [;)] It might not have sex, but still...

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/13/2008 10:36:52 PM)

Well, they could hold hands, look into each others, fade out the scene, and then have a a computer simulation of the two silouettes kissing..

Anne of Green Gables managed to have quite a romantic end without an actual kiss.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/14/2008 5:59:30 AM)

Ya know..I wouldn't have any problem with a very steamy scene in a christian movie...between married people. I would love to see this aspect of our relationship with each other in Christ be represented in film.

Sex is not evil. Its a great thing between commited married couples and it should be celebrated.

Of course, there should be some modesty. I wouldn't suggest nudity or anything. I would just love to see married christian cpouples be passionate on film or in theater.

As far as the actors go, I am sure being single would be recommended or married couples doing the scenes.

car2ner -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/14/2008 2:20:29 PM)

Stage kisses are not romantic unless you let your imagination run away with you. So as in every other aspect of life, guard your thought life.

Bear in mind, that a Christian film or play may call for some romance but I doubt it would include the amount of visual steam that many secular films feel necessary to include.

No kidding!

Yes, a Christian actor can kiss and do love scenes. (note I did not say sex scenes.)

My daughter was doing a Shakespeare play and was to run into a gentleman's arms. We had tried to make him look plump by putting bags of air under his shirt. She ran into his arms, jumped up to embrace and kiss him, the air bags POPPED! [:D] Much laughter followed and no kiss.

MrFribbles -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/15/2008 5:42:02 PM)

I didn't have a problem with it, but my wife does, so now I do have a problem with it. : )
Personally, I think it's a matter of personal conviction. One thing to take into consideration, as I learned, is what other people who are close to you think about the matter. If you have a significant other who would be upset by it, then don't do it.

Oh, ROFL!

Next time, get a great big pair of pantyhose, have him put them of and stuff the pantyhose with quilt wadding or something like that--works well and stays put[;)]

tafkam -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/16/2008 12:37:28 PM)

I wouldn't have a problem with it. I've been around theatre enough to know that a stage kiss is ANYTHING but romantic, more like awkward, silly, and apt to produce fits of laughter. And I hear film is even worse because of the lighting guy, sound man, cameras, etc all crowding in on you for the "big moment".

I'm hard pressed to see how any of that would lend itself to temptation or questionable urges...

Like I said, it depends on the person.

The gal in red is my daughter. And no, the wonderful man in her life has nothing to fear of being replaced by this actor.

Why? Should "The Cross and the Switchblade" movie leave out Cruz's violent gang activities before he was a believer? To "leave that stuff out " makes it not real.

If it is a story of redemption and a lifestyle was part of what they were redeemed from, the story would lack without some kind of depiction of what they were in to; be it drug use, promiscuity, porn use, gay, or what ever.

I am not saying to show all the details or be crude about it, but include enough for a realistic portrayal of their life.

As a teen my life (even as a believer) was full of questionable urges without anything stiring them up. Agreed that it depends on the person.

Well, in all fairness, my brain was thinking in terms of fiction, not biography, biographical films weren't in my head at the moment.

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/19/2008 2:24:09 PM)

Even if it is fiction, you still want some symbolance (and I'm sure I butchered the spelling of that word) of realism or the movie just won't work. I not going to buy some guy's struggle with something if I don't actually see him suffering for it. It's not real. You know?

I agree. We all struggle with issues. We all live in this world where we have urges, desires, conflicts, emotions, passions, and everything else that makes up this life. If we can't address them on a screen or on stage in a way that's honest and helpful, then what's really the point of acting?

car2ner -> RE: Can a Christian Actor/Actress Kiss or Do Love Scene? (9/19/2008 7:37:10 PM)

Without conflict, there is no story line. That is why we have to pray for wisdom to know where to draw our lines.

kicking, kissing, if it is in the script it's should all be an act.
