Let's say you own a small business and are having a problem with shoplifting. You can't afford to put in a fancy security system or electronic tags on each item in your store, but would like to deter some of the theft.

Would it be wrong to put up signs saying that the store is under security camera surveillance... even if there are no cameras in place? Why or why not?

[&o] We did something like that after someone broke into and nearly burned down an investment house of ours.

It was a deception (facade, really) but I'm not sure about a lie. The sign didn't say "This house is protected by So-and-so). It just had the company logo on it--someone who works for a security company heard dh talking about the problem and gave him a sign.

Still, I'm glad it is now *truly* secured.

I'm sure there are fake security cameras that have a little blinking light or something you could put up as deterence, as well as motion detection lights and stuff.

You could get away with simply saying that either "shoplifters will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law" or that the establishment is "subject to to surveillance." instead.

Or a sign that says;

Don't worry about security cameras;
Worry about the .45 the owner carries.

Thanks

Or that too, lol!

You could have a sign that says..

This store is being watched at all times.

Because it is......................

Nothing wrong with saying you have security systems in place when you don't. However, you're better off to install the security cameras and record criminal activity. It's really frustrating from a law enforcement perspective to not have operational cameras when there is something in place.
