ORIGINAL: InBetweenDreams TOM and I didn't sleep well or very much. So I am dizzy and icky feeling. Oh ok, so it's actually your choice not to go? If it was me I'd take something for the nausea and dizzines and off I'd go! I do have to cope with both those things on a regular basis - there are really good meds for both. (Who is Tom?) For me, I'd rather go and put a brave face on than stay at home alone.

I have to admit, I did feel a little selfish when I looked at the gas prices already skyrocketing here in Georgia. A few extra bucks for gas is nothing compared to what a lot of other folks are facing on the coast. Nicole, I hope the rest of your weekend is much smoother!

ORIGINAL: InBetweenDreams Oh, and nausea medications make me worse. Which ones have you tried? (btw I have low blood pressure too! Whenever my doctor has had to prescribe something for me which has a side effect of raising blood pressure, he says to me "I don't have to worry about this with you - it might actually do you some good!!" Interestingly, my ds also has low blood pressure so it could be genetic. I also tend to be hypoglycaemic, which can also lead to dizziness/nausea (I get cold sweats too) so I find watching what I eat helps with that)

ORIGINAL: manda59 Go on, humour me - tell me all the ones you've tried! The ones I remember having are: Dramamine, Compazine, Zofran, Diclectin, Pentazine, Gravol, Midazolam (the only reason I even remember those ones is because I made note of the name after each reaction ... I noted the other ones too, but lost that list when my comp crashed a year ago.) Now, I've also heard that Reglan is often used as an antiemetic ... that is one which didn't cause the hives, but at the same time it didn't stop the nausea/vomiting either ... just helped get rid of the migraine. My midwife is currently trying to get me a script for Domperidone to increase my milk production, and it is an anti-nauseant as well, so I'm waiting to see what the reaction will be to that one. ETA: Ginger does help me somewhat. (And Nicole, I'm with your hubby on the Gingerbeer thing ... I love it too)

ORIGINAL: InBetweenDreams Manda, I don't remember which ones I've tried, but I am pretty anti-medication since I have ended up in the ER from med's that a 6 year old should be able to take or have ended up with hives, my heart racing, stiff neck that I cannot move, shallow breathing etc. For some reason my body just cannot handle meds. Tell me about it! I have several "reactions to meds" written up on my medical notes, including one to pethidine (your demerol). Are yours listed on your medical record? quote:
It just goes low when my body is under stress due to pain or illness. You mean as a kind of "shock" reaction? If so, the homeopathic remedy arnica could help. It's great for shock (or rather, against it)

Have you ladies ever tried ginger beer? It's not beer, just nasty ginger liquid that Lorne loves. And it burns when you swallow it. We always have Ginger Beer in the house...it's Jamaican. I prefer to mix it with juice, then it tastes much better. There's a few meds that I'm allergic too. And now Akeelah has already reacted to one med. I'm hoping it's only that one and not all penicillans (sp?).

I drink the giner beer as is ... love it that way. Aww ... is Akeelah reacting to amoxicillin? That's the first one I reacted to ... it then progressed to all penicillin based drugs .... and I have to avoid the sulpha drugs too.

I can only drink ginger beer straight with certain foods! Yep it was amoxicillan. I was so upset, because I had bad ear infections as a child and that is what they give. I'm worried she'd get my ear infections (though she's not showing any sign of it) but she got the amoxicillan rash. I'm allergic to cephalasporins (again, sp?) and I also had a bad reaction to Vioxx.

Mmmmm ginger snaps. Lorne made some of those a couple weeks ago. I love them! Kara, you like ginger beer hey? I guess I can still like you after hearing that. I guess I can still like Lexie too since she does mix hers with juice. What kind of juice? Orange juice? quote:
Tell me about it! I have several "reactions to meds" written up on my medical notes, including one to pethidine (your demerol). Are yours listed on your medical record? Yeah, mine are listed, but I always have to tell new doctors about them. Lorne remembers them easier than I do. I really should write them up and save them on my computer since I haven't been to the doctors in over a year and can't remember them at the moment. If I was more awake I am sure my brain would remember them easier, but I am tired and lazy and don't feel like thinking. My auntie is allergic to all types of drugs too. Even though they are on her charts hospital staff have accidentally given them to her almost killing her a couple of times. It is nuts! And that is why people should always question what drug they are given if it is a pill or by IV. quote:
You mean as a kind of "shock" reaction? If so, the homeopathic remedy arnica could help. It's great for shock (or rather, against it) Hmmmm, I guess it is like shock... I've never really thought of it that way. Arnica. Never heard of it. So, what is it and do you take it daily or what? Sulpha drugs are at the top of my list... I've also had reactions to drugs that I was fine with at the beginning. And then after a while I had weird reactions. And this was to drugs I very very rarely took. So that is why I just stay away from meds.

Nicole, I generally find ginger overwhelming, but I have these hard candies from The Ginger People and love them. They're so good. Have you tried Sea Bands? I got a pair of those to see if they would help my anxiety-related nausea they work, surprisingly. I told my dr about it and she said, "oh yeah, that's the blah blah blah point, so that makes sense" (Note, she did not say "blah blah blah" I just can't remember the name of the point there, but I do know that it's one of the places she stuck needles in when I did acupuncture.) I haven't found any meds that I'm allergic to, but I generally only take them when they're absolutely necessary.

Oh whatever, just try and stop liking me and then see what I do to you (don't make me go Toronto on you!) I mix the Ginger Beer with any juice...grape juice, fruit punch, even other pops (that's actually what I meant...we call all drinks juice in our house...it can get confusing at time.)

Y'all have a good rest of the night ... I have a 4 week old who has caught a nasty stomach bug from his brothers, so I'm off to tend to him.
