I work with teenagers at a Christian school. And in the last two weeks I've seen more and more girls wearing their hair like Palin. One student even said she had already ordered glasses like Palin's. Could we be seeing a new role model for young women? Is this good or bad? Why or why not?

Absolutely! She is a walking demonstration that a woman can be a feminine, tender, and caring mother, while still being in a position of civil leadership. The noblest thing a woman can do is being a good mother. She can also earn money for her family, so long as she is not placing a "career" over her family. The Proverbs 31 woman was a successful businesswoman, but was a successful wife and mother first. I think Gov. Palin is a great example as anyone can see who observes her interactions with her children and husband. Todd has nothing but props for her, too.

Well, I don't have kids or much contact with teen girls, my best friends have teen boys ..but sure she may become a role model to some young women as you are observing already. But much depends on family dinamics, if parents relates to Palin themselves and the christian faith also...maybe? Don't know. This role model situation makes me back in time to remember who were the women I admired in my young girl days, in a different culture in the 70's was : Golda Meir, Indira Ghandi and my own maternal Grandma, very much so.

I sure hope so, America could use a positive role model for young women. This may sound sexist, but I also like the fact that she still has a feminine persona about her. It seemed that women had to shun feminine qualities in order to be respected but not anymore.

As long as they don't emulate her by lying, trying to ban books, firing people that stand up to them, hiring lobbyists or leaving their states in debt, they might do well to emulate Palin.

Well, considering she never banned a book, or 'left the state in debt', it would appear she isn't the one lying.

whoops. meant to type "city." And I didn't say she successfully banned a book, only that she tried. Hopefully the kids that emulate Palin will be more effective, too.

She didn't try to ban anything, and the residents of Wasilla voted to fund the sports complex that consitutes that debt, which is municipally bonded, and set to be paid off two years early.

God created women to be feminine and have a voice (lots of vocal strong women in the Bible).

You stick with your Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, but let's hope others prefer Palin over them.

Sorry, but this particular falsehood about Gov. Palin attempting to ban books has been thoroughly debunked. See here. (factcheck.org) It was a particularly ludicrous attempt at a smear because the list of books she supposedly tried to ban included ones that hadn't even been published at the time. -Robb

By putting Palin on this list of "pork," was McCain calling her a pig? ummm.....did you mean to post this here? It doesn't relate to this thread. I don't want my kids emulating wasteful spending habits!

She tried to fire the librarian that did not co-operate, but she never banned a book. This is not role model behavior, in my opinion.

This is not role model behavior, in my opinion. You keep predicating it on book banning. What book did she try to ban? If she didn't ban a book, or try to ban a book, then your contention that she 'wanted authority to ban books' is nonsense.

It covered the same material and included more information, specifically addressing the supposed list of books. Also, the implication that factcheck.org is somehow a biased source seems unwarranted. If you look at the home page, in fact, the top story is calling the McCain-Palin campaign to task for distorting the site's findings in the very article I linked. -Robb

What I do observe happening is that Mrs Palin is empowering women who are Mom's and the daughters of those Mom's will be more appreciated, as marriage, maternity, working hard inside and outside home, advacing and being reckognize in theor professions etc etc. The results will be great, as women are doing that for a long long time. Now we have a woman in Mrs Palin candidate VP representing many Mom's, she will be the first to get "there" or almost "there" for now, as the Mrs.President door will get to be open bit later...wait and see everybody! As a woman, single, never really want to be a mom and etc I can get excited about some things reggarding Mrs.Palin but do not relate much as other women may. Some women may want have what Mrs Palin have others not quite the same and that is natural, I think.
